Time to take a serious look at how both current gen LCD 2 models compare to the old Rev 2.2 PreFazor I have and finally figure out which generation is best!
Where did you learn to gesticulate so well? Also, have you heard the 2018 LCD-X? Can you compare the X to them? I am looking for 1 great pair of planars to add to my collection. Have a few pairs of great Dynamics already that I love but want a big soundstage and planar for my last purchase in this game for a while.
I've heard the X a few times not sure what variant though. I intend to try an secure a Few Xs for a review here shortly. Many seem to really like the X in comparison to the 2/3s so hopefully I'll have some relevant feedback on/about it soon
While I get the "easier to drive/warranty" argument, we are talking about entry high-end audio, so a good amp is a must and don´t think that should bias a recommendation (unless we are talking about the HE-6). I therefore don´t get your final recommendation, as during the whole review you clearly state the LCD2 2012 is the best of both worlds. No one wants to chose between 2 sets of goodies when you can have both (bass&impact, detail&clarity). If I could get a nicely working LC2 2012 what should I be worried about quality-wise? I know Audeze had quality variance issues, but if a hp is working flawlessly for 6 years I don´t think it should break down unless you misstreat it. Well it's not specifically the 2012 LCD 2 that's better. It's select Pre Fazor LCD 2's in general. But the issue is "select" some Pre Fazor LCD2s sound horrible and the new options are much better. Some LCD 2 Pre Fazors like mine sound AMAZING! If you dig around online you'll find a lot of people measure and objectively/subjectively compared the different LCD 2 Pre Fazor models, and over all it became clear that some were better than others for what ever reason. So I don't like to encourage any one to take a gamble on an LCD 2 Pre Fazor. I only did because I was good friends with my seller and had spoken with him enough to really trust his impressions of it. But if you just go on ebay and pick up any 2012 Pre Fazor you've no idea what your getting till you give it a listen!
Yeah, I get exactly what you're saying. I've been reading about the LCD 2.2 in several hp forums and indeed there are 2 problems: 1) Huge variability among units, some superb unicorns (as good as LCD3s) and other much worse 2) Quality issues, sudden death of drivers and wood cracks. I'm able to buy in person a pair of non-fazored LCD 2.2s from 2012 in good condition for 550 Eur, but tbh now I'm having second thoughts due to the lack of warranty and leaning towards buying a pair of LCD-2Cs for better consistency and much better comfort with the newer pads and suspension band design. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of that fantastic pelican case together with the 800 Eur price. At the first price of 599$ I would buy them without hesitation. Exactly! Happy you see you dug around, and yea about the "unicorns" my seller didn't get the LCD 3 because he didn't feel it was a real step up from his two. So only until he got his LCD 4 did he opt'd to sell his 2. That and The original wood connectors on this unit were replaced because they did crack! Thanks for the quick response too man
I see you have many LCD cans, I know its not ideal, but do you know of any good portable amps that can drive LCD2s to the max (I have seen 1w+ is ideal power wise) The only portable amp I have seen is the ifi audio micro idsd black, that thing can do 4w at 32ohm (think LCD2s are 70ohm)
I have both and truthfully my HE-500s blow the LCD2Cs out of the water when it comes to the sound. HE-500s are still some of the best planar headphones out there, but the LCD-2Cs are no slouch. Plus, the LCD-2Cs are infinitely more comfortable.
a quality cable will always sound the same may it be a copper or silver cable. there is no phyisical explanation for that. what may cause a better sound aside from placebo may be that the stock cable is just quality wise not on the same level as the "premium" ones that are mostly done clean and by hand.
Kaizer Beelzebub unfortunately I disagree, headphones are electrical systems that operate with very low power so small changes to electrical properties change how the driver Works which in turn changes what we hear If you feel that there's no difference then that's okay a well-built durable cable is a good cable to have, not all of us are going to hear the nuance and changes that a cable can bring. Why not everybody hears it is it difficult question to answer as there are many factors So I respectfully disagree about the placebo, however I don't want to waste any time trying to chang your mind because I'm sure you've already done the experiments and your experience is valid. But your experience is only valid for yourself please keep in mind that not everything you experience is the baseline And while there's nothing wrong with what you believe and what you experience I ask that you again recognize that it is your in your experience alone If you'd like to have a deeper conversation I have a thread on headfi called cable matters and I'd be happy to discuss it with you there but I'd rather not get bogged down into the comment section here on RU-vid

I live in Japan was able to demo the LCD 2 Classics with HD 800 side by side with some really high end dacs, amps, tubes for awhile. I like the bass of the LCD2 Classics but MANNNNNNNNN the HD 800 sound so much better! I feel like the LCD 2 Classics are muddy and most definitely better options than these for the price. I could smile more, and enjoy a wide range of genres on the HD 800 and be super happy. Certain songs on the HD 800 really show that they really aren't actually bass light. If the song was meant to show bass you will definitely get it, and strong too. Without a doubt my next purchase. Absolutely cannot wait as its a headphone I've wanted since release.
you might have been used to more high centred headphones, hence why you hear the LCD-2c's as dark and muddy, everybody I know that own a pair or tested one for a while says the first listening sessions with the LCD's they indeed sound weird and without detail but with enough time to get used to the sound signature they could find a lot of pleasure listening to them, the details and the muddiness went away and when they switched back to other more orthodox headphones they discovered they overemphasized highs and the lows lack both in quantity and quality.
I've had them for about 3 weeks now. I like them but I can't justify the price. Super comfy I must say, and guitar strings sound so damn nice. But something I can't keep. I'm considering the HD 800 / S as it's something I've played with more and enjoy. Can't wait!
I feel ya there! I like my HD 800 with a LOT of content. Though are a few very specific genres where the LCD 2 Classic is more enjoyable depending on what you like. But as an HD 800 fan my self thanks for your input!!

@@jonberg469 I'm not sure that I would say the MX4 is a compliment to the hd800s While their presentation is different tonally they have a lot of similarities The LCD 2 classic would be a nice compliment or possibly an LCD 3, I'll have more to say about the three soon hopefully
