The issue here is that these are called "Refurbished". It is pretty clear nothing has been refurbished. These should be called "Resold". Or "Cleaned and resold" at best.
I got a refurbished embody but I was able to try out the chair along with 3 other embodys, a bunch of steel case chairs and aerons. If you can try them in person I think it can be worth it, my embody was $1200 cad after tax vs the $2200 for a new one. Even broke my right arm lock mechanism and they replaced the arm for free under their 3 year warranty ontop of whatever was left of the 15 year from Herman Miller (mines a 2019 so 2034 for me).
I highly recommend folks to look around for a used office store around them. I bought my aeron from one for around $500 in almost perfect condition and very minor wear on it. A price like that for one is almost unbeatable, and you get to inspect the chair physically before you drop the money
Herman Miller continues to offer Balance fabric options. I recently purchased a new Embody chair featuring Balance fabric, manufactured in October 2023. Although it is no longer available on their official web store, it can still be ordered through an authorized dealer. I reside in Korea; however, this is irrelevant as the chair was produced in the USA. Moreover, the Balance fabric is thicker than other types; it is 3D knit, whereas other fabrics are 2D.
I bought a very good to like new refurbished fully loaded aeron for slightly under 1000$. I think it was a good deal as there are only slight usage signs and it was a bit over 400$ off a new aeron in my area. I think it was a good deal. On this chair there are very minor scratches on the general frame, very almost no signs of usage on the mesh, there is only a very slight fraying on the back mesh (much less noticable than on your aeron). The only thing that showed serious signs of usage was the foot, which has many scratches (which doesnt really bother me). The good part is that the wheels and the gas spring were probaly replaced, as they look like they were new and didn't show any signs of usage. And after having had my first sit in the chair i regret nothing about it, especially after comapring it to my previous 100$ chair👍 Edit: Oh and the armrests also looked and felt like new ones
I bought a refurbed RH Logic 400 off ebay a few years back when the RRP for new was £1100, and I got mine for £300. I've unboxed a number of brand new versions of the chair, and the refurbed one was pretty close. No real dings that I could see, gas stem and inflatable lumbar seemed solid, tilt mechanism was solid, and the fabric was pretty good too. The main issue was that the arms weren't in the best condition, but in terms of that price difference, I was not complaining.
My hat is off to the handsome man who took one for the team and did the "sniff check". Ahnestly that is some top tier used chair evaluation. Seems that there is a trend with the Logix based products. Don't think it would be my jam, but I think it would get a lot of people in some great chairs who otherwise wouldn't.
A little while ago I bought a refurbished, fully loaded Haworth Zody off of Ebay from, you guessed it, Office Logix. This is the first time in my life that I've ever owned a proper office chair, and it's done wonders for my back. The price was close enough to what I would have paid locally for a used Zody (probably 30% more, which I justified as the price of shipping it) and I was happy enough with it to leave a positive review. The chair arrived with the cylinder assembled so I don't know what kind of condition it's in, but other than some minor paint chips on the base it looked to be in good cosmetic shape. Although the longer I sit in it the more I notice that it definitely feels pretty used, and I was kind of shocked to see that this particular chair had been built in *2007*. Would I have still purchased it if I had known its age, combined with the fact that it didn't come with any warranty? Probably not.
For that kind of money I would just buy a new one straight from Herman Miller itself when they have a discount going.. I picked up my Gaming Embody for 1300 bucks new that way..
Herman Miller Aeron is my favorite chair. You should review the Herman Miller Cosm Mid Back. Its a mesh chair with a smaller seat pan. I tried it out in the HM store might get that one soon.
Test the chair behind a keyboard for hours. Herman miller chairs creep foward too much and its hard to get into a good typing posture. I am currently looking for a chair that's good for typing. I like how you go into detail about the specs though. New > used chair.

Living in an urban area, I'd rather buy a used budget chair from a local liquidator than spend >$1k on a refreshed. Maybe it's because Ive never sat in one. 🤔 Ecomm problemz.

If you buy from Madison make sure it’s from eBay bc there’s free return shipping for 30 days. Exactly what I did; returned it as soon as it arrived. The Embody was decent for a refurb BUT the fabric was not original and not as advertised. So are they a scam? Yes and no. lol.
any office chair that costs over $300 is a scam imo. buying used saves but the wear and tear on the seat foam or mesh can't be fixed . for overpriced china made chairs it's not worth the value brand new or used. I appreciate your review but don't fall for these scams. 😂
You can leave the word China out of it. Americans have used and are continuing to use China to make an obscene amount of profit. Then Americans turn around and scapegoat China for everything. You like "cheap" quality stuff? Sure, simply stop sanctioning actual Chinese products, which are quite different from American products designed by Americans for bilking both the Americans consumer and the Chinese manufacturer.
