*NEW* VW California SURF announced + Transporter T6.1 Factory Orders *CLOSE* 

Bit weird but ever time I buy it seems to go out of production but least I have a T6.1 good luck with your new purchase

Nice, well done but to me, the surf looks more like a standard lavishly decorated beach/ a special series with perhaps a kitchen unit at the back to use from the outside.

We ordered a Ocean DSG/204bhp, with 4motion, in Sept 2022. Fingers crossed as we did get a VW central email a few days ago saying “Your order is moving along nicely and we're busy building your California to your exact specifications.” But still worried we’ll get a call saying, “sorry VW can’t fullfill your order…”

We ordered our T6.1 AWD Long wheel base Jan 2022 - was told before Xmas that production was delayed due to parts supply. Hoping we will still get it as is booked to be converted in Australia

Vehicle manufacturers use just-in-time order systems so they only hold a few hours worth of parts - warehoused parts are very innefficient use of capital. What they do have are JIT supply contracts with parts suppliers for volumes of parts over the lifespan of a platform - these volumes are agreed based on predictions of sales volumes and option take-up. There is some adjustment factored in, and also options for more parts should an option be more popular than expected. At the end of a vehicles life, the manufacturers try and ensure all parts contracts are on target to avoid any penalties for not buying as many parts as contracted - this often results in odd specifications as a platform is phased out. .... but parts-bin specials is not actually a thing as there are no warehouses full of unused parts.

It will be a Beach Plus, not an Ocean Lite. No built-in fridge, no wardrobes etc etc. The press release does not mention parking heater so assume its missing. For 4K more get the full fat Ocean unless wait time is a deal breaker.

Chip shortage special is about right. Expect to see very little if anything that needs anything fancy. So base sat nav, 2WD, 150, etc etc. As a use the parts up run out model, it’s a good idea. Personally we love all our “toys” except the electric roof. We’d have a manual one in a heartbeat. It’s slow, troublesome, sensors ready funny sometimes and sags a few inches after 3 days static. It’s a massive faff.

diesel heater was standard on our coast so was the radar cruise . we got air con in the rear with the deal too.

I love the Ocean. Only thing I would like to see it changed is to replace the gas cooktop with an electric induction cooktop. The space for the Gas bottle can be then freed up with for the bigger battery. Maybe an option to have a solar roof would be good too to charge up the battery.

Hello from Down under! I own a 6.1 Cali beach, but kinda thinking the T7.1 "Tranitsporter" platform Cali will be a pleasant surprise. My only prerequisite would be 4Motion with lockable diff.

The Beach model is my fav Cali for its simply and useability as an allround van. Don't think I'd be spending 60+k for a diesel nowdays though. I know range is an issue but I'd rather wait and get something like an EV Kombi from either Ford or VW platform.

They (vw) never called it T7. The internet called it T7.

More than ever , i'm so happy enjoying our COAST 150 DSG 4MOTION since sept 21 . better than Gold investment 😉

Is now a good time to try and buy a new t6.1 , or wait and see what the next generation is going to be like ?

So glad i got my Beach 4motion manual in September, apparently its a very rare van now. Perfect spec for my use,i can see holding on to it for at least 10 years, i have my doubts on the Ford replacement

Ford and Volkswagen have a lot of crossover commercial vehicles so the caddy will be fords small van the Ford ranger will be VWs pickup and it seems the Ford transit will be VWs medium van. The internals and switchgear will be from each manufacturer for their versions but all the drivetrain will be from the core manufacturer with possibly a high end exception where they may insert their own power train. With all this happening what plans do you have for a camping wagon?

Thanks you guys for another interesting and informative VLOG, Our coast is currently in VW commercials for its first service, along with some remedial work, "particulate sensor fault". They gave us a new Golf as a courtesy car, and having owned Golfs in previously years i said to my wife that the new Golf was very like a ford which was not an improvement as visibility was considerably reduced. In my opinion, VW had the edge on ford with regards to corrosion, and in the case of a camper this is of paramount importance. Your thoughts Wee Jimmy?

The only photo is of a Coast from a few years ago. They are calling it a Surf so they can bump the price up and de-spec it a bit vs the Coast model they did. Surf will have adaptive cruise control as an option. So glad I got my order in for a beach camper before this happened.

VW Commercial seems all over the shop atm with the new Transporter collab with Ford, T7 multi whatsit, the ID Buzz cargo... lots of options 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lots of the news pages on this say it’s available in 4 or 7 seats. If that’s true then it’s interesting as can’t have the rear cupboards. But will see what is actually in the brochure!

VW have been struggling with supply for ages yet Ford haven't - the deal makes complete sense. If the base is a custom with a VW stamp it will be a great van. The latest Ford Customs make a better conversion (more build space and bigger cab) and if VW build a Cali version it will be awesome. Normally when a new model comes out, the old one de-values so I can only put this down to VW enthusiasts logic (which is probably right). If anyone is concerned that ford can't build a van - don't be! Check out the promo's for the Trail and MSRT. Things move on & this is exiting news 👍

Hold on a bit £68k?....So it's a lesser Ocean but for MORE money? Absolutely baffling. You can get the Ocean for £64k so how can they downgrade an Ocean but charge more for it? When they said a lesser Ocean I was expecting £59k Let's be honest, it's just the Coast but charging £15k more for them than when they were discontinued

So glad I got my t6.1 last year .not looking forward to ford volkswagan collaboration. If I wanted a ford I would buy one but I want a volkswagan product.

Oh Grrrrrrrr Futtocks with bells on. Am not a happy bunny at all. My dream/realistic plan totally ruined in an instant. Better forewarned I suppose but Grrrrrrrr nonetheless. Transporter news is a surprise. I guess used prices are about to rocket then! Will this likely have a trickle down effect on used T6 prices as well? Just in the process of trying to sell my T6 conversion to upgrade to a T6.1 but can see the (already marginal) affordability of this going out the window

So glad we got out T6.1 4 motion Ocean at the end of last year, i think the surf is just going to be a revised Coast with the use of Ocean spares.

You don't get a fridge in the surf model

I wouldn't have a Volkswagen van, I don't like the way they drive and a premium price for a comparatively inferior product to other manufacturers in my opinion. It will be probably a better van from Volkswagen when they are selling re- badged Fords.
