The heat trick saved a friend's car the other day. Such a neat trick. Poor fella was on the Bahn, had to reach a meeting, saw the temp go through the roof and called me, through some act of God, i remembered this video's intro and told him to open all windows, ramp heat to the max. Suffice it to say i was called a lunatic, but it worked. He limped into town on a whisker.

Thata is alot of recording and editing. I dont think people realize that while working on a vehicle you need to alao reset camera angles so the viewer can see what is going on ALOT of extra work or a pita Then comes the editing. Cool video great repair thanks for the time and effort!

My truck needs a radio but I can't get my chainsaw started.

I was replacing my radiator in front of my folk's house when I was a kid and had the new one in and just tossed the radiator shroud in the garbage. extra parts, not critical to the job right. my dad shows up, a mechanical engineer by the way and says I might want to rethink throwin out the shroud. Didn't listen, car overheated, I ain't happy. Dad had pulled the shroud out of the garbage let's me know teams of engineers had designed the thing to channel air with specific cooling parameters in mind and if billion dollar auto manufacturers listen to them I might want to also. put the shroud on, car worked, but I continued on for many years not listening and paying the price. love you dad

Hi Andrew, I have done a lot of tire changing in my life, so one tip for you: Before you put air in the tire, line up the red dot (position 33:00) on the tire with the valve. That will take you a long way to have the tire in balance

That's how to keep the money in your pocket, guys with new trucks have a lot of expenses and high insurance cost. It's a great work truck and besides the fender and tailgate are like new now.

A tip from a mechanic , glue the gasket to the water pump with contact cement let dry . Then put aviation gasket maker on the other side of gasket , to the block. That holds everything in place as you install it.

This Andrew guy reminds me of some kid I went to high school with , hardly talked to anyone and mostly kept to himself .. was never the party goer , he just sit at home reading and working on his dads cars or anything that had a machine in it … doing well for himself now , he became and electrical engineer.. very smart.

Most people wouldn't bother replacing the spare tire hoist on an older truck, and would just keep the spare in the bed, bubba style. Andrew fixes things, just because they need fixing. This guy is my hero.

I did the water pump in my '99 Ram 2500 5.9. Yea. Did it 4 times in a week because the original shit the bed, the "new" reman one got put on and seized, the second reman replacement was put on, then when I started it started pissing everywhere, it was cracked, finally got a brand new one as a replacement and it's been fine ever since. Did that at roughly 315K and she's at 487K with no issues knock on wood

had me at the demonstration of over heating... then really sold me at the wheel coming off

Just a suggestion my dad was a mechanic for years and he always told me if you have to replace the water pump that you should replace the thermostat at the same time.

andrew repaired the truck transmission but "no one ever watched". i felt bad instantly. i am going to watch it. we support u andrew.

I knew he was using self tappers for his wheel well plastic flare before he showed them. I thought there’s no way a bolt will hold in that rust. Damn they were like 4 inch self tapping screws. Spent more time with the antifreeze mix than anything he did. Andy kicks ass.

Chasing the threads is an awesome pointer. I glue the gasket to the water pump first and let it set a while, so the gasket doesn't move around. About your old Dodge truck, it's probably paid for itself over about 4 times. I still have pickup I bought almost 30 years ago. I'm with you Andrew.

Andrew calmly losing his front left wheel reminded me of the time my left rear wheel came off my car as I traveled on the I-90 New York thruway, 20-some years ago. That wheel had been squealing for a time, then suddenly I felt a lurch and the sound went away. I looked in the rear-view mirror and saw my wheel and axle bouncing along the side of the road (yes-- the entire axle came out of the rear differential). I said to myself "Oh, this isn't good", and the car slowly settled to the right rear and screeched along on the remains of the assembly back there. (Yes, I was braking by that time.) Still, the friction was enough to ignite the grease, so I had to grab handfuls of wet gravel to put the fire out (luckily, it had been raining earlier). That was fun. NOT. I was about 100 miles west of Albany (my destination). My little pathetic tool box of wrenches and screwdrivers wasn't any match for that. Suffice it to say I never saw that car again after that early morning (around 6-ish), nightmare. Life eventually went on...

Nice video. I wanted to point out that grease on bolts results in a higher clamping force of the joint being tightened... which can strip or break bolts. Antisieze has better mix of lubricant and protection from rust which is usually similar to the original assembly specs.
