This was a piece from 1979 on the then new music scene - "NEW WAVE" from the TV program "20/20" that I had recorded and saved (Sorry, for crummy VHS!) Also sorry that i missed the begining back then, looking for a blank tape to record it as i was watching it! While video quality is lousy the content is great classic stuff! Mentions are then new bands like: The Clash, Talking Heads, Ramones, Blondie, Klaus Nomi.... My favorite line is Joe Strummer screaming, "Its not about playing the right chords for a start"!
Enjoy!

Thanks for posting. I saw this as a 13 year old kid. The next day I bought The Clash's first album and it change my life! Part of the appeal of punk, for me, was that older folks like my parents and the producers of this piece hated it. The other part was that the popular music at that time sucked. 30 plus years later, it's good to see elements of punk and new wave in alternative music because the popular music still sucks.

@7:18 Klaus Nomi. I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast, and I think his appearance backing David Bowie was within a few days of this. Then he seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. I followed new music pretty closely in the late 70s and 80s, and was curious who this was, but had no idea until "The Nomi Song" came out in 2004. This was the pre-internet era, and some artists like Klaus Nomi or The Screamers could make a splash and then fade off into complete obscurity again, only to be feted decades later. A very different time from the highly connected and archived era we live in today, that's for sure.
