My wife does not sew thru the paper. She transfers pattern to freezer paper using window or light box. Cuts out pattern pieces-numbered, use tracing wheel to score fold line. folds that back after afixing material , places add-a-quarter or add-a-eight ruler, trims material and procedes-no need to tear paper and the freezer paper can be used several times, using hot dry iron to hold material in place.

I went to a class recently on paper piecing and had a wonderful time. I was exhausted because not only was paper piecing and quilting new to me but I am 75 and recovering from a stroke. It took me so long to do one block and I still have not torn away the paper. Each block consists of 8 sections. I have 16 more blocks to complete. The one block took me almost 5 hours. The next day I tried your method. WOW! I completed the block in a lot less time. I was able to check and see if the material covered each section a lot easier and no paper to tear away. They look identical. I also did a birdhouse pattern I had for practice. I downloaded this pattern and am eager to try it. You brought a grown man to tears and I thank you. This is also the first comment I have ever written.

Sorry for all the nagging comments 🙈 I just wanted to say that this is my first time watching your videos and I as a beginner love how you go into detail every step of the way and the tips you (especially about starting in the middle to get everything lined up nicely, I’ve never seen that before) give are much appreciated. Your videos cover the seasoned quilters and also help the beginner sewers as well. I think a lot of people forget that usually beginner sewers coming to RU-vid for help. So thank you so much for taking the time and explaining everything so well, it’s incredibly appreciated ❤️🙏

You could also print this out on the non waxy side of freezer paper and then use your iron to hold everything together on the waxy side. Everything is the same except you use your iron in place of glue and your end product might be a little crisper since you’d be ironing. I love using the freezer paper and you get just as many uses from the freezer paper as regular paper

Thank you for showing us this "floating star", my name for this one. Two questions. 1. How do you keep your tips from being sucked down into feed dogs and ruining the points without a little leader scrap? 2. Why do you open the seams in final ironing instead of seams all to one side? Swore I would never, ever, do another paper pieced star but will have to try this one. Great tutorial.
@TheSewingChannel
@TheSewingChannel 2 года назад
The way I keep my "tips" from getting sucked in....Line it up with needle right above where it will go into fabric-Drop your needle or hand wheel your needle down first prior to starting to sew.(you'll hear me in the vid say "drop your needle"). I open my seams at the end because I feel it lays more flat.☑️ Thank you for the kind feedback too💛

So often, you are so brilliant! You offer alternative ways to do things. Paper piecing has always been a bother for me, even though I love the precision of this technique. The no-sewing-through-the-paper method has brought me back. Now I am brave enough to tackle the "make 96 copies" Carolina Lily. Thank you.
