Buffalonian here: My area regained power about 20 hours ago.. It's really bad here we still have people that are going on day for with no heat no electricity.... We have multiple reports of looting and many different parts of Buffalo, different neighborhoods... I'm just thankful that the electricity's background and the heat's back on.... But as I listened to the AM radio and hearing all the casualties and all the bad news and all the people that have been lost it just breaks my heart. It's just really crazy when you don't even have emergency services for days on end there were so many medical emergencies we had to help each other, in true Buffalo style! So we basically proved it again we are the city of good neighbors!..( For the most part lol)
That’s right that Fire wants to be tough not gonna happen when it messes with a huge blizzard like that one that is actually helping the heroic firefighters fight it
I'd like to know when the local Governments are going to start treating these big Lake Effect storms more seriously other than pointing out the obvious. God forbid Government be pro active like shutting down roads completely ahead of the storm, not when it's already here, forcing and enforcing "stay at home" policy. Im not a fan of any govt. forcing anything but people cant seem to put 2 and 2 together and would force these businesses that are basically controlled by their Headquarters who are hundreds and hundreds miles away, not effected by any of this to shut down til its over. We see and hear for days ahead of any hurricane to prepare, evacuations, local govt's shutting everything down etc. This is Buffalo's second go-around in about a month with a major winter storm and even "major" is an understatement but it seems like they did little to prepare other than if this was a regular type storm.
Western New York was as prepared as we could be. The storm hit sooner than predicted and lasted longer than expected. This cleanup will take a long time.
Lessee, no one moving their cars because the driving ban. No plowing. Storm chasers exempt from the driving ban or they got fine and even bail money handy?
How did they catch fire? Can we have some explanation, please? These homes are built way to close to each other. I don't think any kids are being dropped off at the Busy Bee Child Daycare Center today.
A good portion of the city was (still is) without power, if I had to guess they could have been trying to heat their home with the oven/stove. That is just a guess though, there are may other ways it could have started. As for the homes being close together, a lot of the city is like this. A lot of the houses are quite old too, for example the house I grew up in was build in 1909.
Winter started 5 days ago and buffalo is only 2 inches away from their average season total of 95 inches so you’re wrong about the snowfall being bad. Some places got 1 ft with this storm some got 6ft
This is what happens when the city doesn't clear the streets of snow, fire trucks unable to respond to house fires. Also without electricity, homeowners utilizing fireplaces resulting in chimney fires.
What happen to using Tire Chains? They don't work no more? How come the firetrucks don't have Tire Chains? The police cars do, how come our Fire fighters don't have snow chains, and the ambulances? What a major disaster!
I promise you will be just fine. Welcome to AmeriKaren. Where everyone has to complain about something. For obvious reasons they have to do it so it does not get taken by other broadcasters. Best thing is you even had to announce your departure. Sad
