New York's priorities are upside down. I have several friends who live there, but I just couldn't. I like the freedom offered in the south and the west. To me, New York is for people who are willing to be baby sat and led around by the nose.
@@fredschloss9517 I agree with you concerning New York City. Yet in upstate New York: Schoharie County, Columbia County, and Warren County it’s like the wild West. People carry guns people carry knives and nothing ever happens nothing bad
Is EVERYTHING you could possibly Defend yourself with ILLEGAL in NYC??? No One I know has a cop in their pocket, so the chances of one being around are Slim and None.....and Slim just left town. 🙄🖕🏻 I live in a Gun Friendly state that's even made switchblades Legal again. It's LUDICROUS that you can't have any of those knives.
Sierra Bravo If the laws made just one bit of sense I would be ok with them but they are just so ridiculous that it’s better to be safe than sorry and just carry a grandpa style knife. Thanks
@@GunCollector007 Their bs laws only tie the hands of the Good Guy. The Bad Guys don't Care about their laws, but the Powers that Be don't seem to comprehend that Fact. Stay Safe, my friend! Molon Labe
Thanks for explaining it! Trying to read the actual laws got so confusing and overwhelming and I had no idea what they were trying to tell me. So thank you for making it easy to understand!
NYC is a great place to visit. But the laws on knives in my opinion shouldn't really need to say any more than don't carry a sword, and don't threaten people with one. They are such basic tools, I shouldn't need to do research to figure out if my multitool will get me arrested because it has a lock on the blade.
This is a stark reminder of why I've never considered visiting New York. Even though I'd love to see the Statue of Liberty. I am 1 generation removed from Italian immigrants. My grandmother explained it as one of the greatest visual images of her lifetime! It's too bad NYC has lost it way! Thanks GC 007 for the great information.
I don't know the law, but I would not carry any knife that is more than 3.5 inches from point to bolster/guard. For security, I would only carry a 'fixed' blade, or 'pepper spray', yes pepper spray is legal in NYC. But in reality, please avoid NYC, I live here, but the Polititians need help!
hi my friend! THANK GOD my ancestors left NY when it was still a COLONY! I have to tell you that Beretta model 81 TEN ROUND MAGAZINES are available so you can order when of those Italian Prison service Pistols for your collection.
welcome to new york, the only place where a beggar will stab you for not buying him cheese fries- oh and when you try to defend yourself you'll prob be arrested
So a knife that doesn’t lock in place is legal. With these gun and knife laws how can people protect themselves from those who don’t care about the law.
If you are going to be in the city just carry something simple and avoid anything that looks tactical, it having a few other things on it like a bottle opener is always good too, you may need one when you get a bodega soda.
This reminds me very much of your video, a few years ago, of the time you were harassed outside the airport by a cop because of your pocket knife, as the officer was questioning whether or not a spring-assisted knife was a switchblade. Not sure how the new knife law classifies a spring-assisted knife these days, but you definitely have to be careful.
I know that gravity knives are legal in nyc now but im still confused, I thought that locking mechanism rule was part of the gravity knife law that was repealed so why would that still matter? It seems more like a safety feature to keep the blade from closing on your fingers.
I was thinking the same thing. I was scrolling the comments to see why it would make sense for a locking mechanism to me illegal because I don’t understand it.
Locking folding knives are not illegal in New York. All knives are illegal on buses and trains though. A Morakniv Eldris (colorful handle) would be best. And NEVER say you’re carrying a knife for self defense. Say it is your every day carry for opening packages and stuff.
I read the ny knife laws and it doesn't make any mention of locking blade making it illegal. In my opinion I don't think it should matter if a person wants to carry a certain knife for work or for self protection or self defense. It is very dangerous to be in certain NY places and it is almost possible to carry a gun legally so a person should at least protect themselves with a knife.
Idk what changes in the knife laws are mad in NYC but I live on Long Island and there is no law criminalizing balisongs. The only legal statement about them is to say they aren’t gravity knives. Maybe NUC is different but the rest of NY doesn’t say anything therefore if they do pull something it’s fairly easy to win.
Well can you help make it more accurate. I live in NYC and the drunks and mentally ill people like to start problems for no reason. Can you enlighten us please?
NYC is probably still the worst as far as knife laws go. Though they did repeal the gravity knife law last year so they don’t do the “wrist flick” arrests anymore. Still, your assessment is pretty spot on. Philadelphia is pretty bad as well.
I’m gonna be traveling to NYC for vaca (the wife has never been) and this video is awesome, thanks! I’m curious if 2 years later if it’s still up to date on the laws?
Strangely enough I live in upstate New York which is not New York City I’m closer to the Adirondacks upstate New York people carry knives all the time they never get pulled over no one looks at them no one cares. My point is the laws and ways of living are different in New York City as opposed to upstate New York. In Columbia County which is a couple hours away from New York City I’ve seen people carry any firearms on their body and nobody says anything
I live in the city and I edc everyday . Any fixed blade 3.99 inches or under is legal aslong as it's not double sided or visible to the public , iv never seen any literature anywhere in NYC law about how a knife locks , folding knives are legal aslong as under 3.99 inches and are not mechanically operated by switch or spring . Gravity knives are now legal . NYPD can no longer use the "flick of the wrist " technique to determine a knife as a gravity knife since it's was removed from basic training
@@GunCollector007 yea thats why the whole gravity knife thing was B.S. just police abuse anything that folded was a gravity knife.. fuk it worst case scenario you make ur public pretender attorney fight the charge
So switch blades are illegal in nyc? Cuz I looked up some laws and it said they were valid as long as they’re under 4 inches but they can’t be shipped from outside
I like the knives in this video, but at the end of the day once I get searched and they find any knife I’m getting arrested, the Bronx is fucked up now a days
Another infringement of the second amendment. One should never be arrested for carrying any automatic knives (or knives of any sort) unless used for illegal purposes. Switchblades are not used as often as a screw driver, kitchen knife etc... Those ridiculous laws should be repealed!!!
So for people who can't say it's used for their job (I do computer science), or don't have a hunting/fishing license, what is a valid reason to tell cops you are carrying these for? I want a way to legally protect myself (with a knife that is acceptable by law) but can't think of an excuse for EDC given that self-defense isn't a legal reason.
@@GunCollector007 If I got searched for any random reason and this was found in my pocket would there be any valid excuse beyond work reasons that I can say was the reason I'm carrying? I can't think of any currently
I started laughing when you showed the knife for removing sheeps testicles. Because thats exactly what you people in NYC let legislators do to you with stupid laws through the years.
My friend was stabbed multiple times in NYC 2 days before Christmas 2020, he was jumped by 5 teens. He's ok, but it got me thinking about protection, especially as the city seems to be regressing. Unfortunately as a law abiding citizen in NYC, your options are severely limited and it does give me a somewhat helpless feeling which is aggravating.
