If you need a palate cleanser from the concrete jungle that is New York City, Fort Tryon is worth the visit into the most northern part of Upper Manhattan (accessible by the subway’s A train). Believe it or not, you can find 66 acres of greenery, a medieval atmosphere, flowers, and vistas in NYC. It truly is a hidden gem and one of the best kept secrets of New York City. And in this video, we are going to look at an overview of this hidden gem in the world’s most famous concrete jungle - Fort Tryon. We’ll also talk about The Met Cloisters, Linden Terrace, and other features of the park. Plus I’ll tell you a really eccentric story about one of the earlier owners of this land.

I love the Met and have seen them mention the Cloisters here and there, but I never made the effort to go up there (I don't live in NYC, but travel there frequently). I will put it on my to do list. Thanks for the video!

I went to school In this area, and I didn’t never ever acknowledge the fort Tryon park as an actual fort smh one of my regrets is not exploring it more as a historical site

It just dawned on me that if I was to meet up with someone who wanted my time to be really fun and informative, it would be you. You have a special empathy about you that resonates with your viewers. Thanks for sharing your local knowledge from this side of the pond here in England (Brexitland 🇪🇺😂)

Grew up around Ft. Tryon, there's a few caves there. I found many Indian arrowheads which I still have. I left in 1989.

They also had a Medieval Festival at Ft. Tryon (pre-pandemic) with many vendors, displays, and exhibitions such as jousting and sword fighting Knights, etc.

Sounds like a great location for a Medieval Festival! Maybe they'll bring it back this summer.

Just don't go further south from here or your health will be at risk, uh-hum! That said, this is a gorgeous area of Manhattan/New York City. Deep and historical, rich with antiquity. A nicer day would be harder to spend any place else.

I once crossed this park at night - in attempt to make a shortcut from 190st subway to Broadway st. (down that hill). Oh boy... what a creepy place.

Good to watch Thea's video again! Same week. I like how Thea says her name. Do you watch ActionKid's channel? He does a lot of (livestream) walking tour videos, His fav park is also Fort Tryon Park too! Thanks for the tip to take the A train to one station and leave from another.

Yes, I've come across his channel. Lots of good stuff to see in New York. I used to think the C train stopped there too, but I guess normally the C only runs up to 168th, so it's only the A.

Hi amazing video! I have a quick question, is it safe over there? and also the subway stations are they safe that far north? Thank you. I'm planning to visit in March.
@UrbanCaffeine

TBH I haven't been in that area for awhile so I can't really say. If you want to stay comfortable, you can go midday and not stay too late. I probably wouldn't stay past 5pm in March.
