The reason why Hispanics are just labeled as whites is Hispanic and latino for a long time werent considered a race of people do to the fact that if your Hispanic your genes are pretty much either native and Spanish (mostly mainland Hispanics like Mexicans and el Salvadorans) or black and spanish or also referred as afro latinos (mostly carribean Hispanics like Puerto Ricians, domincas, and cubans)
It’s true Mexicans in California are considered “white” I remember in school when we would do testing and have to fill out our papers with our information next to white it said in parentheses (includes Hispanics) or something like that I would never fill it out or make my own box that said Mexican and check it off and some teachers would threaten to give me a 0 if I didn’t fill out the right box and I would tell them “I guess I failed then” and some teachers didn’t care cause they know that’s wrong since then I’ve seen more places put a box for Hispanic but still sum places want you to put white I personally never will tho 🤷🏾♂️
