I got approved in the hiring process as financial advisor for NYL. I took my license to be able to sell insurance in CA. When I was about to start working. The manager who was hiring me never get my calls, was always unavailable. Cause of that I listened my gut and I didn’t take the job since the manager was very unprofessional I felt I would be left out. And I Don’t regret at all.

I got hired as a financial advisor. There wasn't really an interview process, they kinda hired me on the spot. The general manager just got on a zoom call with me and briefly explained to me about the job but not in detail. He said i would need to get the license, so I studied for like 2 months (I failed it the first time) and got my license. Then I filled out the contract and other documents. After that my actual manager who is in charge of supervising me told me to watch these online courses and once i finished I can "trigger" which means i'm a full time agent. I was hired by the Long Island General Office but my manager is in the Queens office. Almost everyone in that office is Chinese, there is a huge Chinese market in NYC. I didn't really speak chinese that well and my manager didn't speak english that fluently so often times I was confused. They didn't really give me any actual in person training besides having me watch a bunch of videos. They didn't tell me this before but I realized that they wouldn't be giving me leads, i would need to go out and find leads on my own or buy them. I spoke to a coworker and he said he was kinda screwed over by the company because he made sales but they said you would need to make this much more or we will terminate your contract. There's also a ledger that every agent has and it's basically like a debt you have to pay for them letting you use their resource portal. I felt like this is dishonest and kinda shady so I quit before I trigger as an agent. Now looking back at it, it should've been a red flag how they didn't tell me much and was vague about the job.

I received my life only license in Ca. I first learned about life insurance sales through a Brad Lea podcast. He owns Real Financial which sells under FFL. Their training sounds good, but I haven’t signed up yet. The more I learn about insurance companies the more uncertain I have become. They seem like mostly MLM structures. I thought about applying to New York life but since I own a business that’s doing well I was interested in something part time which supposedly FFL offers.
@TheDIGAgency
@TheDIGAgency Год назад
All insurance sales is structurally a MLM. The real issue is whether or not the culture is MLM. You know, flexing cars and money, etc. If you see more motivational BS than substantive fundamentals, do your research and find another agency.
@pawnjumper6980

What are commissions like on term, whole life? 100% upfront?
@TheArmoTrader
@TheArmoTrader 3 года назад
@Michael Rivera its production based. Not only commission. I have 5 components that make up my compensation. However starting off its a little different now apparently and there may be a small salary type component.
@TheArmoTrader
@TheArmoTrader 3 года назад
@@skyewatson6204 yes, commissions are always advanced up front. Term is 55%, WL is 50%, Custom Whole Life is less than 50%. Universal is 50% typically. However, as I said above, commissions are not your only source of compensation so if you belive in yourself you'll make more in the long run with NYL than if you become a broker.

@@TheArmoTrader Hi. Do you require another type of license besides life? I just renewed life and that is the only one that I have. Any offices in AZ? Or maybe in SD, CA. I am in Yuma. Can I sell for example just FE? I am curious. How's your training? Just online? Or like a boot camp? How many days? Do I have to buy leads? Thanks.

I'm going to be starting with NYL and I have my concerns regarding leads. I was under the impression that there would be a pipeline in which I could call on people to sell insurance but apparently that's not the case. I was told to reach out to family/friends - In my case, that's a very very small pool of people unfortunately. How did you go about generating leads? - Thank you!

Dave, I've been watching your videos and love the content. Has answered so many of my questions. But I still have one question. How do I leave my captive agency. It's a good place, good management. I love most of the people I work with. I've learned a lot but I am just too curious to stay in captivity. It is a smaller branch and I am one of the top producing agents (which isn't much of a feat) and I feel like I'm entwined in culture and not wanting to let my team down. Any advice would be great. David, I had two person to person interviews with New York life, each interview was 2 hour long. In between interviews I had to do an assessment test, fill out a lot or paper work, such as my 10 year work history and give a concent to let them check my background and run criminal background. Before the we schedule our 3 interview, I was give a homework to do: I have to contact 10 people in my circle and do a phone market survey with each. Once I complete that, then I need to let them know and they will schedule for a 3rd interview. Does that sound right? For me to survey my friends when I don't even have my L&H insurance. Or is that a normal process?
