I don’t understand why people say “ you don’t make much money in this industry in the first couple years” That’s complete bullshit. There’s two things you need to be successful. It’s activity and a good lead source. If you have a good lead source you can maintain a high activity. I JUST started as a new agent in September, i am sitting with 8-12 people a week and have about. 70-80% closing rate. I submitted $22k in January, $16k of that went paid. In February I’ve already submitted $27k in business and 18k has went paid. As a new agent I found the importance to hustle as much as I can in my first year, I’ve taken 3 days off so far in 2020. An agent with 6 months experience have been following Dave duford and Cody askins for the full 6 months I’ve been an agent. With proper guidance you can make an amazing living IN your first year. You just need to maintain activity. Sorry /end rant

You'd be surprised. I am an INTJ. Introverted, don't like crowds. Prefer to work by myself. And DEFINITELY not attracted (initially) to selling anything, much less insurance. I have essentially "molded" myself into a salesperson over time; there is an essence of a "performance" I put on. It's me being authentic still, but the "switch" is definitely turned on.

You can't be lazy and make it in this industry. You have to be very hungry for business and work your butt off getting in front of clients or have deep pockets to throw lots of money on marketing. You also needs 6 months cost of living saved because most policies you sell won't start paying commissions right away and especially with final expense you get advanced commissions and lots of chargebacks.

Okay so here is the question I have been offered my own agency at a major carrier (after a lengthy background/several interviews process) my question is do you have an overall view of which major carrier or mid-level treats thier agents/owners better than the rest? I ask because I know I will be offered the same position in any of the ones I apply to. I have 20+ years of sales service in different fields. I would like to land where they are known to treat top performance the best. I am licensed etc. Thank you in advance if you have the time to answer my question!

Depends on the auto club you are with. Very Important, some of the clubs aren't very GOOD to their agents at all. Some barely market, and most don't give renewal biz revenue. AAA has a pretty good policy, but what SUCKS for most agents is having to spend SO much time on membership, which gives you a nothing burger in commission.

Bottom line, if you don't have the *belief* in the product and the process Primerica promotes, then find an alternative. If Agent A is selling P&C consistently for 10 years how much would they make upfront and how much would they make in residuals? If Agent B is selling Life and Health consistently for 10 years how much would they make upfront and how much would they make in residuals? Please use industry averages or median prices in each field. I understand some Life agents can make 6 figures off a single sale but I don't have many millionaires or billionaires in my inner circle. Also don't need any comparisons or analogies to someone like Ben Feldman. The biggest allure the insurance business has in my eyes is residuals. I'd like to create a book of business that will allow me time and flexibility to enjoy life on my terms. If I hit it hard for 10 years I'd like to know where my time would be better spent. I'm not interested in being sold on which pays more upfront or which will give me higher residuals to achieve my goals, instead I'm curious to know the totals reasonably attainable in each field. Thank you in advance.

Great comment. In a nutshell, life insurance pays higher first-year commissions and little to no renewal. P&C (and Medicare for that matter) pay lower first-year commission but higher renewals. If you are looking at developing a renewal-based income, where you make money without working because of the effort you made years earlier, P&C and Medicare provide an avenue to do that. HOWEVER... while many agents like the idea of renewals, they are in a financial position that disallows them from committing to the meager income made over the first year or so with a renewal based product. So they start with a first-year commission oriented product like final expense to build up their bank roll, develop a clientele, then go back to the 100 to 200 of their clients and meet with them to sell them a Medicare Advantage plan, which provides renewal income FOR LIFE (as long as the client stays on the books). I can help with both product lines by providing a sales and marketing system to get you in front of interested prospects while teaching you how to close them. You can learn more about working with me in my national agency by following the link here: buylifeinsuranceforburial.lpages.co/david-duford-recruiting/

It varies from agent to agent. The one thing you need to understand coming into this business though is you don't make much money the first couple years and you need to spend a decent amount of money on marketing to get in front of clients. This is the main reason why so many agents fail. They simply don't have enough money saved or have too high overhead to make it past the first few years or they lack the skills necessary to sell policies consistently. You should have at least 6 months worth of living expenses saved along with enough marketing money to get you past the first few months of marketing expenses.

@@michaelhuebner6843 "Karnage 2 months ago I don’t understand why people say “ you don’t make much money in this industry in the first couple years” That’s complete bullshit. Sorry /end rant"
