Hey Tim, weird question, do you guys like those Caldwell portable benches you use? Would you recommend them? They seem really convenient and they're a great price.
I love the tables! I have several and use them all the time. I leave them out in the weather and they hold up great. We sell them in our Amazon store: www.amazon.com/shop/militaryarmschannel
@@Militaryarmschannel More torture tests? I hope the channel receives money from RU-vid doing those types of videos. They were always the best. I'm sure many of us would love to see P80's, Shadow Systems, Zev, and other of the popular glock derivatives compared to the venerable G19... Glock clones seem to be the craze these days with PSA coming out with the Dagger.
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
Just bought a Zastava ZPAP M70 used for $700, came with an added picatinny scope mount, upgraded grip, an extra adjustable stock, a nice hard case, and 3 steel mags. It looks brand new with not even a scratch on it!
New zastavas have two serious flaws that still need to be addressed. They also picked up a 3rd for a temporary amount of time. Better than a psa for sure. Better than wasr... with under $20 quick fixes I’d say so. The only thing really holding them back is they lack a lot of surplus compared to AKM
Hail to The_Rooster There Great in my opinion and Don’t really have any flaws in my opinion for the Price even the unorthodox Wooden Grip honestly feels great in my hand and I wouldn’t even consider swapping it out.
Just to add that "Yugo" and "Serbian" means the same when talking about the M70 rifles. They have been made in the same factory, using the same tooling since the 1960s. So, the main difference are the models themselves depending on the year and variant, with quite a few being made during Socialist Republic of Serbia (then part of Yugoslavia), and quite a few after in now independent Republic of Serbia. Peace!
@@benny3637 don't forget how much BiH owes NATO. pretty much it's existence. show a little more gratitude. the "Court" established by Dayton has ratfucked RS again. what result would occur from a plebiscite for annexation by Serbia in RS ?
Just picked up my first AK, a ZPAP with Maple furniture, after watching this video, TFBs M70 video, and AKOU. I figured it’s the best bang for the buck while still keeping quality. My dream is an SGL21 or 31, but I’m very happy with the ZPAP M70!
I bought one of these! I love mine! I searched for months and finally found that classic firearms had them in stock and I had to jump on it. It’s well worth it!
I picked up one a couple days ago, as of January 2021 I paid $1,100 new from the shop, but due to the Rona BS prices went up a bit, same with ammo. But as far as the rifle is concerned it was near perfect, no obvious problems the sight post was even centered. Ran perfectly and good accuracy. I've owned other Zastava rifles in the past and this one is the best version yet. I dont regret the ZPap
I noticed you guys from the USA needs some Serb "desetar" (corporal) to teach you a few things. Your left hand doesn't have any business on the right side. What is on the right side had to be done by your right hand. As a guy who had a few wars behind, and use that first rifle in the video, I have to say it is unbreakable. There were occasions I haven't time to clean it for a month. Dust, rain, cold, you name it. It just works. And put the bullets where I wanted. And by the way, all you guys call it Yugo. Although it is manufactured in the Kragujevac, in former Yugoslavia, it is also manufactured by a Serb gunsmiths. That factory is older then any Yugoslavia. Older then many countries that exists today. It is waaaaaay more Serbian gun then Yugoslavian. Nice video, keep on shooting.
I'm American here and honestly I never understood why so many people do the "under barrel" method for racking the charging handle. I've always done it Soviet style with my right hand and it just feels easier and more natural that way.
Both rifles, old Yugo and a new Zastava, were made in the same factory, Zastava Oruzje, in city of Kragujevac. Essentially both rifles are Serbian made as early development of rifle was done in Belgrade in Military Tech Institution before it was moved to Kragujevac. First model M67 7.62x39 mm was made in 1963 then improved version AP MP70 (Automatska Puska) was made in 1970. Main differences to Soviet model are 3 ventilated openings for cooling, ability to shot rifle grenade, more bullets per minute, slightly better distance and accuracy. Anyway, too bad we cant get it here in Australia.
By the way, the bolt hold open notch on the selector switch is NOT “just for the American market”. This was a Yugoslavian/Serb innovation dating back to the 1970s. From Wiki: “Some rifles were also equipped with a notched selector control which allowed you to lock the bolt rearward by closing the dust cover on the charging handle.” The last shot bolt hold open follower in the mag was also first issued to Yugoslavian troops. It does offer a certain functionality which is accomplished by learning a little manual of arms technique where the operator, upon the last shot being fired and the mag follower is holding the bolt back, pulls back the charging handle to line it up with the bolt hold open notch, then swipes up the selector switch in one smooth motion to lock the bolt back. Then, upon inserting a fresh magazine, the selector switch is pressed down allowing the bolt to slam forward, chambering a round. With practice this technique allows an AK to be reloaded with nearly the same speed as an AR.
I bought one of the last Opaps that Bud's gun shop had in stock a few years ago, imported by Century Arms. My Opap has no sling swivels, all numbers match except the buttstock, it has the accessory/scope rail, and is one sweet shooter. The front handguard is some kind of cheap American made wood and the pistol grip something plastic and American made also. All of the rivets are excellent and my sights are straight. The last time I was at the shooting range I was firing at 300 meters on steel. I had forgotten to move my rear sight to 300 meters. I was just using "Kentucky windage/elevation" and over 50% hits. I would like the new Zastava rifle but I'll never give up my Opap for any other AK.
nice video....the reason why old Zastava rifles didnt have chromed barrels is because chrome is a strategic metal and since former yugoslavia didint have chrome deposits chrome would need to be imported and in case of the war that could be a problem. I useto served with old rifle when I was doing my time.and from day one we were instructed to clean the rifle very often....best wishes from Croatia.Btw we produce a better rifle then this I served with....it is VHS2 from HS Produkt
Thank you for whatever editing you do with sound. I am a headphone user, and am always happy when gunfire is edited to a level that doesn't shatter eardrums.
After doing my homework, I bought my Zpap and 1st AK last week- just awaiting pickup from my local FFL. I appreciate all of your honest work and comparisons throughout the years! Though I paid 1075 (Walnut furniture) for it (1100 seems to be the going rate here at (3/18/22)...but I understand these keep appreciating, and honestly for what you get...probably will continue to do so. Glad I bought one while prices are "reasonable" I suppose
I had the same exact problem with my wire stock! The thing was so crooked and goofy looking. I ditched it for an older push button type stock and luckily that one arrived straight as an arrow.
mine has the same exact booger on that same rivet. and the top of my handguard the wood is a bit uneven but i love this rifle. Got rid of a couple of pistols i never used... got an ak. Im happy.

My Grandfather (Mom's Dad) bought a Yugo M70 in 1987, as well as a Polytech Legend Chinese AK. Between the 2, the Yugo is the better Rifle. Those Polytech AKs are, awesome, but they aren't the best. In reality, the Chinese just incorporated Bulgarian Specs into their AKM Rifles, so those old Pre-1989 Polytechs are Chinese Copies of the Bulgarian AKMs (Bulgarian AKMs are the best).
guess I got lucky, my wasr is straight as straight can be. Seems like its a 2015 stamped model. I paid $515 for mine brand new. Bout time I got lucky on something.
Same I believe Tim always refers to the older wasr models that had quality issues or he just dislikes Romanian ak variant no matter what its being compared to..
The barrel pin on my opap is the same way. When I got my first OPAP that tripped me out, but I researched it and quickly learned that normal. I really like my OPAP, prolly never find a Mitchell's, so I'll prolly pick up a new ZPAP. I guess zastava listened when people said the Opap was the best pap and basically brought it back with a chrome lined barrel.
0:36 That ZCZ stands for "Zavod Crvena Zastava" or "Red Flag Plant" in English. Fun fact: That rifle and Yugo car are made in same city in central Serbia.
@@pdog109 Chrome lined extends the barrel life and protects it from corrosion to an extent. Makes it easier to clean. Go with Chrome lined if you have the option but don't let the lack of Chrome keep you from buying something. Even some of the most high end rifles these days sometimes skip Chrome and go without it (HK416). It's not a MUST HAVE but I think it's NICE to have. Also, Chrome lines barrels are very slightly, barely less accurate but most people aren't good enough a shot to notice and it doesn't matter in an AK. That last part is my opinion.
Bought one a month ago, first trip to the range yesterday. Zero sight cant, was only 3" high at 100yards right out of the box. No malfunctions, managed a 3" group at 100yrds. It was cold and windy and was having issues with my eyes watering. I think the rifle might be capable of a bit better. It's heavy, but overall I'm impressed. The polymer furniture is of very high quality.
I got mine with Arch Angle furniture polymer all adjustable butt stock and magpul pistol grip. All black and has front rails as well which are flimsy. Comes with dovetail option on side to attach rails and red dot sights. All right around $800. Love it.
I bought a Zastava M92 and the rivets were. It pressed down and the firing pins walked out by only dry firing. Shoddy work. I’m glad it’s worked out for some, but not so good for others. This just turned me off so I was able to pick up a Galil Ace 7.62x39 Rifle and Pistol. Waiting for for them to be shipped. Call it my retirement gift from 24 years in the AF and my bday/Father’s Day gift! 😁
I'm definitely going to pick one of these up as soon as I can find one in stock. Been saving for a decent AK and this seems to fit the bill. Thanks for the info and everything you do Tim! ✌️
I was able to snatch one up on armslist unfired for 850 so I was pretty happy. The guy had it up for 10 mins I left the house immediately to grab it. By the time I got there he said he had over 20 messages on it. These guns feel amazingly well put together and the finish is wonderful.
I wanted to mention this for anyone wanting to reload without having to pull back the charging handle. 1. When you fire the gun until it locks back, with locking mags, don't remove the mag. 2. Press the 'safety lever' upwards on the charging handle to lock it in place using the notch on the safety lever. 3. Remove magazine and insert a new mag. 4. Press the safety lever down and the charging handle will forward into battery at the same time the safety is lowered into 'fire'.
I bought a ZPAP M70 about a week before they started shipping the chrome lined/bulged trunnion versions, but I gotta say the example I got is still exceptional and I don’t regret it! I also picked up an M85 from Zastava and it too is great. Zastava is doing it the right way
bought my NPAP for 775 back in 2016 its been a great rifle. fit and finish is good. I added a ALG spring and trigger spring. Other than that it is stock and its an amazing rifle. Zastava makes rifles on par with high end Ak's.
Thank you for the video Tim it was great I took mine to the range and had a blast with it I tried several are all of them worked very happy it's in556 55gr very accurate thanks brother
I snagged one of the 1st ones that were imported and I managed to grab it at $776/shipped! They have went up about $100 since then, but it's an awesome AK for the money, especially in today's market!
The new model is gorgeous! My only gripe would be the billboard wording on the right side about reading the owner's manual. Thanks for the comparison Tim!
They are a very nice guns. Ive had no problems with stuff I bought from Atlantic. Even so, I heard Zastava USA has good service and is willing fix minor issues to keep people happy.
I can vouch for that! I sent mine in for some minor rivet issues and they took care of me QUICKLY. I had my rifle back in my hands the same week I shipped it to them, but they also are only 1 state away from me too, but that's great service in my book! They also have a lifetime warranty too, so that will give new owners piece of mind.
I don't know if they are really uninformed in the USA, but Zastava Arms has been producing AK since the beginning of AK production in Yugoslavia, there is no Yugo AK and Zastava AK, it is exactly the same manufacturer all the time, although the materials and tools may be different ... Zastava has been producing weapons since 1853, and before the Second World War, the factory had about twelve thousand employees and ten thousand machines, and they have only continued their continuity until today ...
I bought one of these a few years ago and I just want to share a couple cons... The rear sight spring isn't strong enough to the keep the sight in place and it can easily be wiggled back and forth. I've found this to be the case on every M70 that I've found in a store as well as the one that i own. I intent to tune the spring or find another one that provides a tighter fit so that the gun can be shot accurately at more than 25 yards (i realize this is not a deal breaker for most AK guys since y'all just mag dump into trash but there you go). The release button is a great feature but the rear trunnion of an M70 will shift a couple thousand rounds in causing the button to get stuck. You can still hammer it in and out and you can send it back to zastava for a free re-fitting which only takes like a week. My friend has the same issue with his M70 and zastava even told me that it's a really common issue. This is also not a deal breaker but this gun seems to have a reputation for being the perfect midgrade AK on the American market but there's definitely some common issues that i wish I had known about before buying it. It's not a terrible gun and I still like it but you could probably get a PSA for half the price without sacrificing quality.
I just bought a new Zastava ZPAP M70 light maple. In my rifle the S&B ammo is just as accurate as any of the other ammo I've shot. Wolf, Tula, Barnaul or even Fiochi. The PMC is the least accurate ammo in my rifle. My rifle's front sight required no drifting. Info only. Thanks for real nice video. It was very informative about the Yugo rifle and the Zastava.
I love my M70 but I just recently got a PSA GF5 and I’m actually blown away. I got the plum gloss wood and there’s not one fitment issue or anything 🤯 all the trash people talk about PSA I figured I’d touch this thing and would turn to dust 🤣 jokes aside PSA is on the come up no doubt about it
Did I miss the part mentioning the stamped 1.5mm receiver on the M70? Though I’m a big fan of Ski, this was a more descriptive representation of the “new” Zastava. Thanks Mac. Big shout out to Atlantic Firearms for getting mine to me in 4 DAYS door to FFL. You hear that PSA...4 DAYS.
My M70 now has a PSA GF5 friend. First buy from PSA and I don’t even hate on them, I was very shocked how well build this is. Love my M70 but damn PSA is on the come up
@@slr7628 I have a retainer plate coming in soon and I'll do it when I install that. I don't know if it's the tension, maybe the nipple in the saftey needs to be filed down a hair because it moves fairly easily between the notches in the receiver, it's just extremely hard to get out of the notches. Cant do the two finger swipe method.
All Yugo rifles are made in the same factory - Zastava Kragujevac in Serbia! That wooden handle on the Yugo M-70 is not commercial, it was transferred from the Zastava M-76 military sniper rifle, which was also exported to the USA.
Nice review ! The fact you doesn’t find a defect is great 😂. I have one with about 500 rounds and shoots great. Hopefully they chrome line the zpap92 too and I’ll buy one of those as well.
I have a yugo M70 AB2 underfolder. Made by zastava in Yugoslavia and imported by century arms and it's stamped 1983 and only 1 mag has been through it So it's in good condition
I must say, I bought a zpap85 recently and was very impressed. Compared to my other AKs, this one is hands down the winner in fit & finish. My next AK will be another zastava. That's of course if I can find one.
Yeeaahhh....about that, ladies should wipe from the front to the rear....at least according to health professionals (maternity ward nurses) that was explaining wiping after the birth of my 3 daughters (3 years apart, so no change in that info in about 10 years). Here's another source on it: ""Always wipe from front to back," says Alyssa Dweck, M.D., an ob-gyn and author of V is for Vagina. "Wiping from back to front can bring bacteria from the rectum toward the urethra and increase your chances of a urinary tract infection."" if RU-vid allows it the link is: www.shape.com/lifestyle/mind-and-body/5-bathroom-mistakes-you-dont-know-youre-making The rifle though...I wish we could get those here in Norway. But at least we can get the Arsenal SAR M1s :) Same-same but different !
I don't know if you guys noticed but Zastava selector lever works opposite of any other. And it is the same on mil-spec ones. It usese that button and RPK chassis because it was meant to be able to fire grenades off the barrel, that's why de militarized rifles have that flip up sight which cuts off the gas. I've heard from a guy who tried to fire grenade from the barrel of different AK, the rifle disassembled itself and top cover and recoil spring hit him in the face. Trust me, his face is full of scars. The top cover hit him right below the eye in his right cheek, and the recoil spring hit him just over the right side of his mouth. Bigger hand grip was put there because average hand size for male Yugoslavians is about 8.1", so .50" bigger than the Americans in average.
The missing accessory on the imported version of the rifle is a sight for tromblon mines, which is also a gas regulator. It is standard for police and military unit.
I have a Yugo AK and it says M70B1. Mine has the plastic pistol grip and has a three position safety. Also has these flip up grenade sights which cut off the gas like my old Yugo SKS. The barrel pin has been machined flush and so nice I actually had a hard time seeing it. The safety is funny in that on S, it won't fire, but if you push it to the first stop or the second it will fire. I am not sure, but I think this thing was converted to semi auto at some time and the selector is for semi and full auto if the gun had an original trigger / firing setup. All I know is that the gun is more accurate then other AK's I have shot and the mags do not rattle or wiggle when in the gun. I do like that plastic grip. I have small hands and this grip fits me perfectly where as other AK's I have used with the larger wood grips just do not fit my hand as well. Anyway, I like this old M70B1 and bought it because of how well it fits me.
@@zagrepcanin82 I keep it clean and take real good care of it. It does draw stares from others and if they pick it up they are amazed at how heavy my AK is as compared to others save for the milled receiver Russian ones. I find that this one I have is more accurate then most AK's I have ever tried. With my own hand loads I have shot 2 MOA groups which is quite good for these rifles.
I had one from around 2000, Loved it but it started firing full auto...I screwed up and returned it... I will always kick my own ass for doing that... plus I only payed in the $400 range.... DAMN !
So zastava wins quality challenge. By the way that zastava ak with walnut wood was USA consumer request. Wood is American walnut that zastava use on they guns
I want an AK and a Vz. 58 to go in my 7.62x39mm "collection". I am really leaning toward the ZPAP for that use. I currently have two Norinco SKS rifles and my Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39mm. The AK is a "link" to the StG44 so that is another reason.
MAC iam pretty sure your rear leaf night sight will flip out of the way , most of the Yugo rifle night sights are made so you can. anyway thanks for the content.
My Zastava doesn’t have the bulge receiver or the button on the dust cover. I believe mines might not have chrome lining in the barrel. 🤷🏽♂️ it still shoots well though. Great video 👍🏽
I’M NO EXPERT, but @4:50 I could’ve sworn it was front to back and not back to front 🤣 Nice video tho 👍🏾😁 I’m looking to buy a AK like yesterday, that’s why I’m researching videos to see what’s the best quality AK to get.
Ive got 2 Serbian models,, M70 OPAP and M90np which are both the heavy bulged trunnion with a little heavier barrels... The M90np is cool because not many were imported,, it uses AR-15 magazines, has a 18" barrel,, has a 3 position adjustible gas regulator,, and is caliber 5.56 Bought them both for 600.00 each about 5 years ago.
Love the video. I watch your channel, I think, for 6-7 years now. Btw, your wedding ring looks like that of character "Budd" from James Cameron late 80s "Abyss"... In the movie it saved his life... literally :] Great movie, though - never gets old.
It's a Tungsten Carbide ring. It's the second one. My original ring saved my finger but it put a huge gouge in the ring -- no small matter with a steel that's so strong. Thanks for watching.
You mean when they were made from beat to shit parts kits instead of being imported as brand new rifles? Yeah, we know. Ship has sailed, dude. Tell us a story about those $90 Mosin crates while you're at it.
I remember the quality being subpar back then now the Wasr-10 are far better that's why prices have risen and everything has gone up in price anyway since this coronavirus shit
Weird ammo issue. I've had good luck with S&B myself. Also, both of my WASRs are about as straight as any other AK I've had experience with. 2013 and 2018 made WASR10s.
Of course in hoping that the US Political Climate remains neutral/friendly to firearms ownership, I really hope that Zastava will reintroduce the OPAP; give us the option to buy new M70s w/out Chrome Lined Barrels. Would be cheaper too. I also hope that they start making and offering NPAP M70s again as well (Stamped AKM style 1mm thick reciever), alongside setting up a full-time manufacturing facility here in the USA (I got a feeling they're moving in that direction as companies like Beretta, Sig Sauer, and Glock did in the early 1990s).
It's been pretty exciting to see Zastava investing in the US market. What I'd like to see next out of them is an American factory. You'd think that if PSA can get economies of scale, Zastava could too. It will be fun to watch what they do next.
I bought mine when they first came in country @ 1985 or thereabouts. It has easily been the most accurate AK Ive fired over the years, out-doing Bulgarian, Hungarian, and various Chinese manufactures. Possibly because of the non-chromed barrels? Not that the others are sloppy, just over-shadowed by the Yugo... Ive left it all original except for installing a (sort of) M4-type half-birdcage flash suppressor. I very much prefer the dark walnut wood over the original blonde Yugo wood, altho other than coloration I have no issues with the original. Some have called it "teak" but is far more likely to be a native European wood (some have said elm). Ive gotten a couple other Yugo-made firearms and they all show attention to quality and durability.
I got a soft spot in my heart for aks that look like that old yugo. I love the classic look I had to stain the wood on my wasr 10 I couldn’t take it anymore
I happen to possess an early Yugoslavian M70AB2 which is the underfolder variant with grenade launcher using a DCI RPK receiver which were known for quality. I won't say how much I paid for it because many would cry, let's just say it was in the 400.00 range NIB. Shoots like a champ, I call it my tank. Quick note: I find it strange but a beneficial fact that Zastava has brought back the use of RPK type receivers in a model without grenade launching capabilities as the designers used the RPK receivers to increase strength of weapons used for the high stress job of launching grenades, the new rifles lack the grenade launcher sights and gas block valve.
very great video! Love it. I’ve got a Mitchell Yugo Zastava NON etched m70 built on the rpk frame. Dont know much about it but I shoot it all the time. Have no idea what its worth and dont care. :) So its cool to see these new imports and I can really appreciate it. thx for the vid
