The antigunners are at it again attacking "assault rifles". With recent events there's been discussion about the SKS. Let's talk about the last "assault weapons ban" and how it did absolutely nothing.

In 2004, the DOJ in their report to congress determined that the 1994 Weapons Ban "had little to no effect" on firearm related deaths. That reinstating it wouldn't do much going forward. That report was the biggest reasoning the ban ended.

UK here, land of regulation. Want a funny? I use a CZ 457 for pest control. I had the stock Cerakoted in a dark green. A woman saw me on my land but made a beeline for me. As they do. First words out her cakehole? "Why do you need an assault rifle"? Some "humans" are beyond all comprehension.

I've never understood the phenomenon of these people confronting you and asking you "why do you need xyz" while acting afraid or intimidated, but obviously they were not too afraid or intimidated to confront you. All they really want is control of you and for you to submit. You appear to them to be the peg that must be hammered down.

I just picked up a CZ 457 Varmint MTR (Match Type Rifle) and it is a tack driver with the right ammo. It is picky about ammo but once you find what it likes its easy to shoot 10 shots at 50 yds with all holes touching. Have even put empty 22 cases into previous holes and shot them out of the target at 50 yds. Easy to pick off shotguns shells with it at 100 yds.

In the summer of '94, I bought a Chinese SKS for $80. Couldn't afford the Russian ones which sold for $230. Gold was selling for $400 an ounce back then. Using Gold as the standard, that would be the equivalent of $500 today. As a young adult, I grossed $560 every two weeks at my entry-level job. I could buy one with two days' of wages. This definitely shows that using guns and gold as a measure, wages have stagnated, but you already knew that. Just some data points for you youngsters.
@DriveCarToBar
@DriveCarToBar 13 часов назад
There's a whole bunch of data points that show just how bad neoliberal economics has screwed the American people. They're worried about making sure the ATF and ICE and all these law enforcement groups have funding to enforce the laws, but the SEC is basically toothless and serves as a revolving door for corporate execs. Consequently, the Nancy Pelosi index is a thing and people make decent money just copying her stock trades. If you want government incompetence at its finest, look at the SEC, not the ATF.

Unfortunately, in California that's exactly how they're treated. About 30 years ago a famous case occurred when a San Jose cop received letters that a couple of his unmodified original SKS's were illegal under the 1989 laws on "Assault Rifles" and eventually lost his job because he didn't immediately turn them in for destruction. He later won in court when California couldn't even tell the judge what technical features on the SKS's were illegal. He got backpay/promotion, but he moved to another state to get away from California's restrictive gun laws. They have this weird listing of SKS's from countries from Albanian to Yugoslavian. Years ago about 1/3 of all SKS's were illegal under the DOJ's authority (not the law). Technically the only illegal one (under their "Assault Rifle" laws) should be the ones with the AK Magazine conversions (a mod done by the Chinese decades ago to upgrade their SKS's with high-capacity magazines). Only about 10 percent of all Chinese imports had that mod, and it was not used by most other SKS producing countries. The excuse on other ones are things like a grenade launcher sight (you can't buy Soviet era grenades in the US or even produce them due to the manufacturing issues). Yet the California DOJ kept adding SKS's to the list, that weren't in the original laws (or even later laws). After that court case and several public humiliations on the SKS rules, they pulled many of those SKS's off the list. But currently several models of SKS's are illegal in California and can't be sold in the state. They claim that only SKS's with detachable mags are illegal and yet refuse to register SKS's that don't have the AK mags modification or have the modifications to use detachable mags. You can take any SKS, remove the fixed magazine, and put on a specially modified detachable magazine (it's awkward, but it works) and later return it back to it's original configuration. Those are illegal in California, but since they can be put on any SKS in existence, the California DOJ tries to refuse to register any model SKS"s they claim can be modified with those magazines and as I said any SKS can use those special detachable mags, so all SKS's are suspect in the DOJ's eyes. Many people have had refusals on SKS's registrations because they suspected or saw something on the pictures on their SKS's that they thought were illegal mods to put on those larger magazines. One friend submitted his Yugoslavian SKS a couple of years ago and it was refused as he had removed the grenade launcher sight (they said it was an unauthorized modification), yet they put that gun on the original DOJ (only) ban list years ago because it had a grenade launcher sight. I think they just look for excuses not to register legal guns, like their constant removal from the "Approved Handgun List" that had reduced the number of legally available to purchase handguns in California by almost 75 percent. That list gets shorter every year.

I remember, back in the late 80's, going to a gun show and one booth literally had crates of SKS's. The booth operator simply opened up a crate and hanged a sign on the cover ($69.99 each), and when the crate was emptied, he just grabbed another crate and opened it up. Today, that empty crate alone is probably worth a hundred bucks.

My commercial market Norinco SKS is not a full-blown Bubba. I did a few things to it to make it into a very reliable and enjoyable "bush" rifle: modified bolt "lips", modified feed ramp, PMag 20 round mags, and a combo cheek/butt pad. That's it. The rest is stock. I love it more than my AK.

Bubba'ed is a term SKS purists (collectors) use to describe SKSs' that persons have basically changed simply by adding a polymer stock. I did that to my $80 SKS however I kept the wood stock and appurtenances that came with it. It can be reverted to its original configuration very quickly. One change I will not undo is the spring loaded firing pin that an SKS collector sold years ago which greatly eliminates any chance of a slam fire. I do have other historical rifles to which I would never dream of altering anything, but an SKS, whatever floats yer boat. BTW they are legal for deer hunting in my state and you are correct, they are a lot of fun. One thing I have seen is scoped SKSs' that IMHO are difficult to maintain a zero. The polymer stock you have on the SKS on your video may do better with the forward mounted picatinny rail. That was a great video about a fun (and used to be cheap) rifle. Your videos are great, keep'em coming!

@@jaydunbar7538 I live in NJ, we’ve had an AWB since 1990. Fixed mag is exempt. It’s based on a list of banned guns and “substantially identical” firearms based on the feature list. SKS with a fixed mag is specifically excluded since the law bans “SKS with detachable magazine type” by name.

My understanding, in reloading the SKS without stripper clips, is that you can turn the rifle bottom-up and hinge open the magazine, then take loose cartridges, drop them in several at a time, close the magazine, and go to town. I keep thinking about trying it with my Yugo on my next range visit.

The PLA tried for years to pretend otherwise for some reason. Took them a long time to start issuing the Type 56 and successors instead of the, uh, Type 56. Not to be confused with the Type 56, of course, which was belt fed. Or the Type 56, which was an 85mm divisional gun. What a confusing naming system, right, M1?

I've owned Chinese, Yugo and Russian SKS rifles. In the 1990's, my fun gun was a Norinco SKS with one of the 20 round Chinese mags. I modified several with the 20 round mags and they all worked perfectly. At the time, our club had a military rifle match and as I stood waiting my turn a fellow with an AR-15, standing with his buddies commented "Look at that Commie piece of s**t". (I don't think he thought I could hear him). He went first and soon came back looking dejected. His buddies asked what was wrong and he said "My AR jammed on me three times". I just smiled. My SKS didn't. In my experience the SKS is generally more accurate than the AK-47.

Insurgency Sandstorm is a lot of fun with the SKS. Especially with a 1.5x optic and drum mags.

Some politicians call to remove weapons of war from our streets/cities/whevers…meanwhile the CMP quietly continues to sell and auction m1s, m1 carbines and other surplus military rifles, many which were actually used combat. WTH?!🤦

My personal rifle is a chines type 56sks because I live in a cuck state. Nice wood, sling, and spike. Truly a beautiful piece but also one of the most practical rifles I can own.

I was never really interested in an SKS when I was younger and they were available for like $100 - $200 and on used racks everywhere. Now that I've shot a few (friend's rifles) I really regret night grabbing one.. or a few, LOL. Could have kept best one for myself and sold sold a couple at profit 10 yrs later.

There is NO SUCH THING as an “assault weapon” 🙄 Assault is an ACTION, not an object. Even if a weapon is named as such, until it is used to harm or kill someone no one has been assaulted.

“Assault is an action” is literally one of the dumbest things people in the 2A community say. It’s a flawed, pseudo intellectual argument. Assault rifles are real, “assault weapon” is a gun control term.

There's the Assault Rifle but no such thing as an "Assault Weapon". "Assault Weapons" is a completely made up term and a political buzzword with no basis in factual reality

Get a life. You don't seem to know that words change meanings over time. Right because the military never used a semi auto rifle. Nor did the SKS ever been used by a military.

From a European perspective, most gun laws and regulations in the US. Makes as much sense as the export restrictions on gun parts or accessoires . Its all strange/weird and pointless for no reason Wanted to get a pad for a stock last year, that could not get shipped to me, meanwhile a AR pistol grip (from the same store) got shipped and delivered no issue. Both just a piece of plastic/rubber ?

It's all about control anyways. Once they get one version or brand banned they work on the next. It's incremental steps they take hoping nobody is paying attention to the strategy.

The Yugos are the better version since they have a milled reciever, not chrome lined, and could launch 22mm anti tank/personnel grenades. Not junk at all. That guy was trying to scam you to buy your rifle on the cheap.

It is ‘AN’ SKS not its ‘A’ SKS. If it starts with a vowel or it sounds like a vowel use AN. Not A! And by the way ‘I seen it’ is not correct past tense either for those whose didn’t know it.

You don't understand, since it's a 30 caliber, you *NEED* a stock buffer. Because their 30 caliber Springfield has a rubber buttpad.
