During this pandemic i ventured down the rabbit hole of HBCU marching band standtunes as well as field shows and i haven't left since. Its like any popular hit or album cut that was around during the time of the season was being played. I just finished morris brown 2002 "never scarred" performance at botb and famu 2000 florida classic halftime show. And i was out of my computer chair vibing along lol like i was there. Also saw southern's rendition to "i want it that way" by backstreet boys

Yep, America is awesome!!! I was on the dance ( drill team ) in high school and it was every Friday night!!!! Time of my life.

I marched in the band at THEE I LOVE Jackson State University and I’m very pleased to see that our band still getting recognition around the world. When this pandemic is over you should come to a BOOMBOX Classic game between us and Southern University. #LUVDABOOM

JSU (the band you reacted to) host a yearly event where they perform and invite high school bands all around the county at their college in Mississippi. September 25 it will be on RU-vid a few days later and tickets are like 10 dollars

You still REALLY need to see some videos of these HBCU bands performing on the field during halftime shows. These during-game in-the-grandstands performances don't do the bands justice. BTW, that first performance was at a road game, while the second one was at a home game. I've been to a game at that second stadium and I would recognize it anywhere. And it's not just college games that these performances take place...high school and some junior high school games as well.

You should watch the boombox classic 2010. The zero quarter is the band battle before the game starts and the 5th quarter battle between the bands when the game is over.

Not only can you hear it when you’re there, you can feel it in your guts

Yes when you're at ground zero (up close and personal) and all that sound is in your face it's intense. I love it!!!

So everything you describe is the HBCU game experience it is a vast difference in hbcu game experience and the as you said in your other video "major universities" game day experience. The band experience style and swagger is vastly different. In fact at HBCU schools many argue the crowd comes to see the halftime show and not the actual game. As a ex HBCU football player I'd like to argue that point but what I can say having the band in the stadium and those drums get us players amped up all game you can see number 17 warming up bopping his head to the beat...lol There is also what they call "5th qtr" which is a battle of the bands from each school on different sides of the stadium competing against each other another aspect that makes the HBCU experience like no other....

SU did a masterpiece of a song called "LIBERATION" ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL SONG!. THEN GET PREPARED FOR AN EXPERIENCE FROM THE JUKES!.

They are amazing. The dancers are THEE PRANCING J-SETTES. JACKSON STATE & SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY ARE RIVALS. HBCU BANDS. So amazing

Southern University vs Southern Miss 2017. They Dilled that Bruno Mars Finess. Best I've seen In HBCU. Just my Opinion. There's alot of Great Performances. That one Jumped out.

My brother was drum section leader at Jackson State in the late 1970s. My two sisters are Tuskegee University alumni and my mother, aunt and I are Alabama State University alumni. All colleges are HBCUs. Fans enjoy the band as much as the football game.

Check out the dance teams like Alabama State Stingettes, Jackson State Jsettes, Southern University Dancing Dolls, and Alcon State Golden Girls.

If you like covers, try Jackson State Perfect Illusion by Lady Gaga or Liberian Girl by Southern University. You should also watch a 5th quarter between those two or Crankfest

I’m from Greenville, Mississippi and grew up in the band. The best bands to look at in the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) are Jackson State, Southern University, Talladega College, Lane College, Mississippi Valley State, Alcorn State, University Arkansas Pine Bluff, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Texas Southern, and Tennessee State. Outside of the south of the US look at North Carolina A&T, Howard University, North Carolina Central, Florida A&M, Bethune Cookman, Hampton University, Norfolk State and Miles College. Look into trying to catch the next Honda Battle of The Bands. Some years they have mostly SWAC, and some years they have a mix of everything. It’s 8 bands voted into the competition by everyone around the world. And it’s in Atlanta, GA in February.

I recommend watching some of their halftime shows because they do be poppin, same with Southern University

As a 1st trumpet player at Furman University from 1987 to 1990, YES, that experience can definitely be the norm at college football games. It's even louder when you're IN the band. I can promise you that while the RU-vid videos are great, they do not even come close to what it sounds like live.

I played Football for this school and the band during the games are this loud every game. I remember almost ever game our team being threaten with penalty flags because the game was too loud. That is the home stadium and when we played Southern University in the Jack people were sitting the the stairs it was so packed. She should definitely go to a home game Alcorn, Southern or Miss Valley. Get there early the tailgating is the best the great state of Mississippi has to offer in my opinion.

Southern is bad ass. Fun to watch JSU and SU go at it.

I wish you could make a SWAC or JSU halftime performance. Football season will be in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19. Many schools will not be playing in the Spring of 2021. We (JSU) might be Prime Time on sports channels with Coach Deion Sanders leading our Tigers.
