Yes, you defiantly need to shop for fruit and veg seasonally here... it's just what we do (shipping produce in from overseas takes too long and costs to much). Pak'n'Save is often the cheapest for many things, but not all; baking supplies (Cocoa etc.) is generally cheaper at Countdown. So we will often split our shops, depending on what we need; on a big weekly shop for our family of 5, we can save between $20 to $40 by doing that. Oh, and you mean "Kiwi Fruit"... "Kiwis" are us; the locals... and human trafficking is very frowned upon 🤣🤣
Yeah and we also noticed that depending of the area/ city prices also change and products differ. Usually where’s a pak n save there’s a countdown and new world, if we have the time we go around trying to find the best deal ahah no harm trying to save a few $ 🙃 It’s funny that only in NZ we have to say kiwi fruit everywhere else we just say kiwi and we all assume the fruit but you are right I should’ve made it clear - “kiwi fruit” 😁😁
I'm chilean, been twice in NZ, and I have experience buying at the NZ supermarket. The prices are similar to what we have here. Some things are cheaper and others more expensive. Definitely not the most expensive in the world. Also, consider that the minimum wage here in Chile is around 500 USD, in NZ is around 2500 USD...so yeah...you're in a much better situation than us.
As a kiwi, in recent years I've been led to believe our groceries are some of the most expensive in the world. Would be interested to hear from others in other countries, how this shop might compare. Enjoying your clips!
In the UK groceries are way cheaper, this is most likely due to the fact that our produce is imported directly from other Eu countries but what shocks me the most is how much you guys pay for fruit, veg and fish. You can buy around 240g of salmon for 7-8 nz dollars in the UK. Fruit and veg costing around only 90-1 dollar per kilo for fruit and veg. Crazy
We used to live in the UK before and we remember how cheap it was back then, it was way cheaper than in Portugal where the salaries were and still are lower. Now with brexit and whatnot we hear that England got a bit more expensive but still affordable, in New Zealand for what we gathered minimum wage is not that great in comparison with the cost of living
Shopping in NZ it is still alright, well compare to other countries in the world like Australia and others you name it New Zealand is still cheaper, thinking about the wages and salary is going up which is awesome and products are still the same of course its on the top.
Hi I left NZ about 6 months ago,and I don't think the prices had gone up much. If you shop seasonally the veges and fruit would be cheaper. But fruit and vege is just as expensive here in Australia
We saw the difference between winter and spring prices and we didn’t find a massive difference to be honest, perhaps more towards the summer veggies get cheaper but we find it very expensive still. We were in Australia and even tho it’s very expensive there we found it a little bit more affordable not just fruit and veggies but shopping in general was cheaper 🙃🙃
Not, it's not. Produce is cheaper in Australia. The prices in NZ, especially in Auckland, are actually ridiculous and the worst I have seen anywhere in the world, ESPECIALLY for "fresh" produce.
I am a New Zealander living in Thailand for the 14 years. I am horrified at the cost of food in NZ now. I do buy NZ butter and some other NZ foods here. The price of NZ foods here in Thailand is about the same as NZ on a average. It should be cheaper in NZ than Thailand.
seems similar or a bit cheaper to US prices. Prices have skyrocketed in America. I currently live in Japan and while things are a bit cheaper, theres less variety of things and portion sizes are much less
You have to take into consideration the exchange rate for example NZ $ to US $ that was a very basic shop. Kiwi fruit has gone up to $11 a kilo, a good but simple loaf of bread is over $4 That’s oatslivious an oat ingredients instead of mixed grains which I can’t have. Mince is around $15 a kilo for mince with fat in it. Apples around $5 a kilo, bananas are around $3.50 at this time. I think groceries are expensive in nz,
Too expensive! I live in the USA and the prices are high, but not as high as it is in New Zealand. New Zealand needs to get an Aldi’s grocery store in their country.
I live in Brazil and for me the prices are very affordable compared to my country.. in general the video prices are half of the prices here in reais. And to make matters worse, the minimum wage here is very low, something around 1,300.00 reais. Although I understand why Europeans think that prices are expensive, in Europe wages are generally low, but the purchasing power of the euro is very high. ahh before i forget, thanks for the video, very instructive.
I've stayed in NZ and Singapore, comparing both countries where most of the fresh produce are imported and not grown like most of the other countries, I'd say that NZ is still cheaper...
Hey guys tell me one thing is Cotton packets are available in the store or we should have to go to the medical or pharmacy store for buying it..? Pls reply
Here in Australia avocados are ridiculously cheap too. $0.99 or $1.29 at the moment where I live. Super high quality too. The avocado industry is saying low prices are here to stay. The reason is this: NZ grows mammoth amounts of Hass avocados, so do all the cooler regions of Australia. Northern Australia grows all the warmer climate varietals such as Shepard. When avocado popularity boomed with the explosion of brunch cafes and Mexican food in Australia, Western Australia planted industrial scale avocado plantations. These farms have all come into full production now and have absolutely flooded the market. It is now established that the massive plantations in Western Australia were not needed and has caused huge oversupply for both Australia and NZ.
Fruits and vegetables in the US are really cheap, compared to this video groceries in the US are cheap. I will never complain ever again. Also please learn how to pronounce tortillas correctly... TOR-TEE-YAS
Yes they are. And they are especially bad if you look at the median wage compared to the price of goods. Kiwi's need to gtfo. The recession is going to be disastrous here.
