There are so many historical buildings in Whanganui! I like the flowers on the side of each street. Looks like a garden town!

the residents prefer it's true spelling without the h, which is how it sounds as it's a silent h in the local maori dialect. polling showed 85% of residents wanted the name to remain spelled wanganui as it has for the past 172 years, but a limp-wristed politician, williamson, could not decide so made spelling optional to silence a hand-full of career activists. most, including it's city council, and businesses choose to use only the original spelling - wanganui.

You are actually incorrect it's original spelling is Whanganui and our dialect we drop the h and pronounced Wanganui I'm born and raised Ko au te awa ko te awa ko au.
