Just come urbexing with me..lol.. Most excellent building Dan.. I could smell it!!! And the echos of the years..and that Golden wallpaper that had been covered looked new!!!!! Sweet spot Dan.. Thanks, from a Jersey Girl..
love how the proper people are just clambering over the rubble like it's nothing and dan's just doing his best (which is wayyyy better than I'd be doing lol)
This is usually what I think of when they say an abandoned building. Just an enormous amount of decay and sadness and what it must of been like back in the day
Oh my goodness, this is way past abandoned.. It's abandoned, forgotten, rotten, decayed, crumbling, destroyed...wow!! Looks like something from a postapocolyptic war zone!!
I am from Elizabeth, N.J., and lived in Irvington as well. Newark was one of our countries greatest cities at one time. But unfortunately, like Detroit, it has become a gaunt spectre lingering in yesteryear's shadow. Great video and work, gents. Thank you.
It’s incredibly sad. I’m also from Elizabeth and it seems like broad street is heading the same way. There are boarded up buildings and local stores as well as 711 have started to close leaving giant abandoned buildings.
This is what I love about your channel. Your style, humor and the fact you cover so many genres. It keeps things fresh and entertaining. As well as informative . Thank you and keep up the great work!
When it first opened it was used for vaudeville acts. Singing and dancing , big bands. The room you say was more for lighting during those acts. I do not believe it every was a movie theater. Just live acts.
@@ballabogan Yeah, I'd imagine a massive place like this would need a massive influx of money on a weekly and month basis to stay open, people really don't watch plays anymore and even movie theaters are going away. Plus a huge place like this needs lots of maintenance to look nice and once abandoned, it all decays away.
I live in nj my entire life and I have frequently been in Newark never knew this building existed. But your RIGHT! NJ is one of the most expensive places to live!
Yeah....the theater didn’t close due to high taxes. (Not sure where that was sourced from). In 1967 Newark burned for 4 days. The rioting wasn’t centered in this area but it did kill this area as a destination shopping and commercial district for the Northern New Jersey. ~150 other cities in the US also had race riots and uprisings that summer.
Two of my favourite explore channels in one! What a place! Too bad it was left to rot! Amazing to see the original wallpaper under that 50's remodel beige! The second floor theatre was a real gem! The downstairs one being rubble basically! Also no lobby as that was converted over to a store after it closed. I looked at pictures on google of how it used to look! Incredible place it was! Thanks Dan!
Love when you guys collab. Dan & the Proper people dudes are my favorite 2 urbex channels on the ol RU-vidz...... this site is super cool too! Nice work guys
It looks worse than in the Proper People's prior pre-pandemic posting. I have to give builders some credit, that building has stood through a lot of abuse and neglect.
*Doing the happy dance* Not only getting to see Dan Bell doing a classic Urbex...Butttt...Getting to see Dan Bell and the Proper People together!! Y'all are by far the very best Urbex'rs on RU-vid! I'm so glad I happened upon Dan Bell all those years ago! And equally happy to be a fan of the Proper People for years as well 💜💜💜 Love you gents and great big hugs 💜💜💜🤗🤗🤗
I love reading all the comments. I love your videos .I live in Kansas where there is nothing like this and it's like I'm there exploring w you all. Thank you for that.✌
@@andrew881000 Aye. The main problem with talking about it was that the house is a private property, so Dan can't go into detail about past owners/residents without giving away the address.
Maybe the real reason is because the ghost is fake. Watch this video on the REM pod device they used in the video and how they are bullshit: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u9QEGupMTII.html
"I wanna go, to the late night science fiction picture show..by RKO... OOHH OOHH in the back row...to the late night. Science fiction picture show" -rocky horror picture show. Sorry , the Rko got me and I had to sing it! Lol
Mutlap If people in the cities didn’t want Democrats running things they would vote more for Republicans. But most cities in most places are more liberal/blue than more rural areas.
Oh, the double decker theater is one of my favourite videos of the Proper People. That thing is AWESOME and massive! Really nice to see it again through your eyes. I had to laugh when you explained to Bryan and Michael that you hated that place when entering because I could hear it in your voice and what you were saying when climbing over that rubble. 😁
I checked this place out a year ago. It was such an awesome find but after watching this video, I missed so much there! I must go back! I went in the daytime though... way too creepy at night
I hope to see another collaboration between your 2 channels. They are great guys always respectful of their surroundings no matter how trashed. You as well Dan, your skills with narration, cinemetography and video editing editing needs to come back again!
I remember watching the quick livestream you did at this theatre with the Proper People. Happy to see the video for it is finally out! As always, great work Dan.
Thanks for editing such a long vid for us dan!! That pile filling the main floor was terrifying. Please consider wearing some sort of protective gear for your lungs, I know you put one on in the really moldy places but that plaster is terrible for you as well. Stay safe!!
Wow! Stunning video, the desolation of the place is intense, yet there are glimmers of a beautiful building underneath it all. Reminded me of Fallout. Thanks Dan.

Dan, you are brave for exploring an abandoned building in Newark, and at night at that! Nothing good happens in Newark, especially past dark. Locals know. Hahaha. Hope you are doing well man
My friend's ex boyfriend left a bar one night about 12 yrs ago down from the Prudential Center and was robbed at gunpoint. If it wasn't for a police helicopter up in the sky going overhead he does not know what would have happened to him.
I can't quite put my finger on why you are one of my favorite youtube channels, but I love your content in a way I can barely describe. I hope you never change and keep doing what you do forever. The editing, the dry humor, the creepy- strange places, and your descriptions. It's a huge mood and I just love it.
Glad to see The Proper People on your channel. They are one of only a very few who are as respectful of old places as you are, and they’re also great videographers. I like it when you do collabs with other groups, although your soothing voice narration is missed. Nice one Dan.
By contrast, no one I know really wants to watch these with me. Hubby says he knew a guy he used to play board games with but I dunno the guy's name. Lol.
Please guys I know this is an old but great video please get dan bell to 600k hes almost there he is so talented and deserves to be more than he is well done from a fan
Tim 812 Pennhurst is so creepy with all of the history of abuse. But some of the older buildings are so beautiful. Are all of the buildings still intact (have they started demolishing)? The most recent footage I’ve seen of the complex is from around 2010 or ‘11.
Thank u all for showing americana history that's gone, I think it's so important to show times that were for so many reasons, also super cool u do a little ghost stuff too now! Awesome job boys, thank you!!!
I like the part near the end when you guys just sit down in the seats and take it all in. Wondering what this place used to look like before it decayed so badly.
Omg Those 3 Levels Of Seats , Stage Looks Like Dracula's Place , I Have Had Dreams ( Night Mares ) Of Places Like This .. Like I'm Trapped .. Good Video Dan Bell
Out here in San Francisco, we lost the flagship of the Fox Theatre Empire in 1963. A 4500 seat French Baroque movie palace, opened in 1929.The city regrets today.
It always impresses me how accurate some of the Fallout games are with their depictions of abandoned buildings. This could easily be modeled and put in one of the games and no one would think it was out of place.
@@justinmccowan2543 It's still pretty dry for an an abandoned building that sat for decades. Normally water damage comes from leaky roofs that break through drywall like ceiling panels (whatever they're called) then sop on the floor leaving puddles and or huge water damage. I saw their breath in the video so I think it could be in the colder seasons, but still, there's no sign of puddles or frozen water if that's the case or even badly damaged flaky bubbling paint. The rust on some of the metal rubble could just be humidity and either way it's still not common to see an abandoned building/place just being dusty from age and the structure crumbling away due to lack of water damage. (Well there's old abandoned western establishments)
You want beautiful go to Philadelphia go to Center City get on Market Street stay on Market but go toward Rittenhouse Square at the corner a Market Street you're going to find an art house the way it is the most beautiful theater I've ever seen in my life it's on its last legs so I have no idea whether it's still there or not but this is a Vaudeville theater turned into three movie theaters we're talkin crushed velvet curtains from ceiling to floor we're talkin Marvel water fountains we're talkin a fresco on the ceiling dancing angels We talkin the seats set out as they were in that time. And a huge stage in the main Theater which must have been the performing Stagecoach the other two are like that and then you turn around and look up there is a beautiful Second Story veranda with seats like an opera house at either end everything is gold everything is crushed velvet everything is marble oh my God you have to see this place and unfortunately it's right next door to an adult movie theater so you really can't miss it I don't even remember the name of this place I saw a few movies there you have to find it it's incredible unfortunately it's right next door to Willie p**** theater so I really don't think you can miss it please please please go check this place out it is so so beautiful
Makes me think of the people that built this and those who did the fine ornate finishing work , if they could see it today I'm sure there would be some tears shed .
