Newaza Drill. Side Control to Mount to Head & Arm Choke.

This newaza drill uses a transition from side control to full mount and finishes with a head and arm choke. This is definitely intended for "consensual violence" and not for "non-consensual violence"/self defense. In a self defense scenario, the goal should be to escape, not to purposefully engage on the ground. There is a risk of a third party intervening when your head is down.

Just a note, officially, medically speaking, all those movements called so are not chokes. They are strangulations.

Yes, chokes and strangulations are different. This could be either depending on how it is applied. Personally, whenever someone applies this or other "choking" techniques on me, I always feel it as air/choke and never as a strangulation.

@@AppliedShotokan, choking is the internal blocking of an airway (ie throat) by an object while strangulation is the blocking of bloodflow through an artery. The difference is good to know if medical attention is needed. Colloquial use is something I try to avoid because it is usually wrong or inaccurate.
