15:19 newcastle fans don't need their expectations "tempered" lmao we aren't the ones saying to sign Mbappe, Haaland, etc--it's pundits that keep throwing those names around. we're just hoping for a solid squad that doesn't spend 75% of every season in a relegation battle. that being said, we don't need attack-minded signings, we need 2-3 solid signings at the back to plug up the defensive leaks.

People will laugh at me for this, but I say Newcastle should go for David Wagner. He's always been a promising coach and honestly did an excellent job to keep Huddersfield up, I mean when you look back on this side they had, you couldn't expect that much and to keep them up for a season is a great achievement. Then you look at Schalke which is just a mess and just losing all their best players, it was a poison chalice and any manager was set to fail there. I actually think give him a half decent squad like Newcastle and he can do quite well with them, at least until they can get some infrastructure into that side.
@userjim83
@userjim83 2 года назад
I’d pick up the phone and call Roy Hodgson, offer him the job til the end of the season so he can keep them up, get some defenders in and build a bit of the base for next year. Will give them some time to put things in place off the pitch too and get a permanent manager sorted for next season as there will obviously be more people available than there is now. If Roy wanted a job behind the scenes at the end of the season too then that would be ideal as they lack football people at the executive level. I’d also offer Ralf Rangnick whatever he wanted to join as DOF and rebuild the club from top to bottom…

I actually think Graeme Jones til the end of the season is the smart move. Like many I’m comparing this to the Manchester City project, and having Mark Hughes in post as a stopgap, continuity manager worked well. Steve Bruce had long become untenable, but keeping Jones on could be much more favourable in the medium term than further upheaval. In terms of players, I seem to be the only one thinking of Nat Phillips for Newcastle, which is baffling. Premier League proven, Champions League clean sheets on his resume, proper old school defensive unit with an elite mentality and he’s so, so available. 5th choice at Liverpool and only getting 45 minutes in the Carabao cup (45 minutes in which he stood out as one of the best players on the pitch.) Phillips or another top centre back would allow Newcastle to play a back 4 and have an extra attacking player to play on the counter attack and grab points. Then assess the manager situation in the summer when the league fate is settled and higher quality players can be tempted to the project.
@mjc8281
@mjc8281 2 года назад
As a City supporter I never thought I would ever say anything nice about Mark Hughes and his time managing the club.... but one of the advantages City had with the Hughes reign was that the club could start building without the same pressure you have when you appoint the manager yourself...Whoever Newcastle pick will be their man, even after 15 years I'm not quite sure how much input the City owners had in his appointment, so there was that built in stopgap between them.

Our defence isn't actually that bad. Schar and Fernandez should be in the team, and Schar almost definitely will be under Fonseca if he comes, given he favours a ball playing centre half. Back to quality though, and if you look at our defence under Rafa it is possible to get a tune out of them. Now obviously Fonseca isn't a defensive coach, but even having more possession, as opposed to Bruce's "tactic" of allowing the opposition all the possession and hoping ASM does something on the counter, will take a lot of pressure off our backline. Now whether we even have the right players to play possession football is another story, but we may be able to coble something together until January.

I really don't get the Howe hype. Yes he took Bournemouth up through the leagues and kept them up for several seasons, but he also spent a relatively massive amount of money for a team of their size, and ultimately took them down. It's likely a similar situation as to what happens with any half decent English player, as in they get way over hyped in the British media. And no, the vast majority of Newcastle fans don't need their transfer expectations tempered. The only people seriously mentioning big name players are the media. Of course it's pretty typical of the media to create their own narratives out of whole cloth.

I think the newcastle supporters who are thinking they are going to go from relegation battles straight into the top 4, when thats not realistic. They arent going to attract the best players without guaranteed european football so first they have to improve the squad and get to regular european football before they can attract those big players in order to compete. The manager has to be be able to work with some of this squad plus new players into the squad in the next few windows and how they integrate and improve that squad. There are a bunch of teams struggling to do just that (regular european football) even with big money involved,, ie Spurs, Everton and Arsenal, so there's no guarantee that Newcastle can do a Man City and rapidly move up the table and stay there.

@@joshbrown2217 he will get a chance to manage at a higher level. Newcastle with the funds available will overtake brighton in a year max 2 even if brighton do well. So why not and if he does well why would they sack him? Lets say he gets them to 7th. What worlclass manager will come? In all honesty what is a world class manager in your mind? Because in my opinion there is a handful of them and they will only take the job if the see a chance of major trophy.

@@sanzharkurmanguzhin1328 I think that Newcastle team is a lot worse then you realise, it's so imbalanced that I reckon it will take at least 3 years to get them to a level to be achieving above midtable. Potter is a well regarded manager, but he's not quite at the reputation level where he can take over a team and if they do bad due to factors outside of his control, he would find it easy to get another job. They really need an experienced manager who can help a team just do enough until they can build a team capable of pressing and doing good attacking football. (Maybe someone like Eddie Howe) I reckon Potter is smart enough to recognise this

@@joshbrown2217 Well Howe overspent most of his years at Bournemouth, very few of his signings worked out and he still got the club relegated. I dont think Howe is a terrible manager but Potter is a atleast a level above. I think you are forgetting at how bad the brighton team that potter took over was. It was a team that barely survived in 17th place with 36 points. The squad was build on only couple of attacking players, yet he still managed to keep them up and play a much better style of football. The issue at brighton for potter is that he took them to the highest point they can realistcly go, without major financial back up. In the summer they will lose atleast 2 of their best players but new castle will only grow. It might look like a slight step downwards now but in long term would be the best decision for him and newcastle.

If Newcastle could pinch Dyche from Burnley it would be a coup, simultaneously weaken a relegation battle rival while strengthening themselves. If not then dare I say Big Sam 👀 for a season at most.

Whoever the next manager is should remember where they are. They should also know what to expect. “The loyalest football supporters the world has ever had”? Turn on owners. Turn on managers. Turn on players. Who or what are these so called supporters loyal to? Answer. Nothing. Best of luck to the next person, the next scapegoat.

@@shauntaylor6040 loyalty is clearly conditional in that case. Don’t misunderstand me. I live in the region and although cannot claim to support Newcastle United or any club for that matter, (the concept of supporting businesses with my time and money is puzzling) many say they do and attach great importance to their chosen clubs success. How they go about it is to A. Give up aforementioned time and money for no tangible return. B. Make incorrect claims about their chosen team and their loyalty to it. Week in week out chants such as “.........by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen” and “ ........loyalest football supporters the world has ever had” can be heard. Really? Had Rafa stayed long enough I’m sure he would have experienced the same degree of loyalty that Steve Bruce did. Fans are fickle. Unfortunately they are also, now more than ever, a commodity that owners exploit. I wish the region success but very much doubt that success will be as the result of any of it’s football clubs or their owners.
