Finding some baitfish feeders and rising Brown Trout around the edges of Newlyn Reservoir. Winter fishing is always tough, but our lakes and reservoirs out to west of Melbourne provide plenty of opportunities at fish and occasional sight fishing.
Check out my website below if you are interested in booking a session on the water or attending an upcoming clinic:

Thanks for these videos Tom. I’ve been fishing these very lakes for years now but lately I’ve been experiencing a mysterious ‘trout drought’ which has lasted around two years!! So your videos are giving me some useful pointers and things to try. Keep it coming 👍

Thanks so much Tom. My son and I have fished Newlyn a few times (always in the Spring on a really full lake) without success. Thanks for the encouragement from this video. We`ll give it a go when the level is low in the Winter.

Great videos Tom. Awesome to see fish been caught from these waters that so many of us struggle with in winter. Thanks for the land based version too. I reckon you should jump in the bay and catch some winter flatties😂.. you would nail it!!

Thanks man. Here I used a 10ft 6 weight Cortland MKII rod, Cortland Competition Fast Intermediate Fly Line and straight .20mm (8lb) fluoro for the leader with flies spaced at least 6ft apart (2 flies 8ft apart is normal for me)

Beautiful video thankyou this reminds us of some waters we have in NSW such as Oberon, Q1; Wet line or dry line with sinking leader/fly? Q2;what sort of depth are you getting down to? Q3; What size are you using line/rod thankyou.

@@BillSaltbush yeah I have heard that. it has to be a local. Some guys reckon they have seen a teenager loitering around. Must be from one of the houses up the road. The police should be called.

What flyline are you using?

Hi Tom the 'ol Pedro here. I have a question. Something I have been wondering about for years. I am wondering how effective fly fishing is compared to spinning with lures? Now this is something I would never resort to, I fly fish because I want to learn, but there are some clear advantages. Lure casters outcast us by triple. Plus they cover water faster and they can cast into the wind more effectively. However, flies resemble smelt much more accurately than lures. They move more naturally and I am guessing they spook trout less but I am not sure. So when you are reduced to blind searching, would a lure caster out fish a fly fisherman on these cold winter days?
@tomjarmanfishing3208
@tomjarmanfishing3208 4 года назад
Haha good question Pedro, would probably depend day to day depending on the mood of the fish and how aggressive they are. When they want to eat small and are touchy, fly has a massive advantage but lure has an advantage with water coverage and finding that aggressive one. Maybe we will never know ;)

What the world needs is a rich fisherman to throw some money at a new breed of fishing competition - UFC. Ultimate Fishing Challenge. Bait versus lure versus fly. Who will win? Fly fishermen are purists and say they don't fly fish to catch fish but to learn more about fly fishing. But there are those of us who would like to know the truth e.g. me. Actually, to simplify things, I'd like to see Tom Kulczynski versus Tom Jarman, gloves off. That would be worth paying for..
