My kayak is wide and pretty flat, the Minn Kota 30lb wasn’t moving it very well.

Yes the motor is doing good still. I had to upgrade my battery so make sure you get a battery rated good for your motor. Warning: it’ll be expensive lol

My apologies. I thought I sent the response to this. Must have gotten distracted. I remember typing it out 🤷🏾‍♂️. To answer your question though, there is a turnable mechanism on the shaft that allows you to adjust it to your desired depth. There are positive and negative leads to connect to the battery. I use a connector that plugs into my kayak. I recommend one of those trailer connection plugs for quick disconnect from the battery

It’s not as difficult as you’d think. Although, I’d recommend turning your body more as you reach back rather than stretching your arm. If I remade correctly, I think I had a little elbow soreness at first

I’m using an deep Interstate DCM0035 deep cycle battery…. You could go bigger I guess, if you don’t mind extra bulk, but this one seems to get the job done

As far as the surf, it’d probably be ok. Not fast but it’ll move you. But the salt water will probably rust it

I still have it, but I’ve put my kayak up for sale. The Newport is great though. Quick and durable. Best part is the battery indicator… I’ve put this thing to the test!!
