President George Bush’s presidential campaign continues in the south, and the president does not offer comment on the latest unemployment data. The crowds Bush encountered at his campaign rallies were large. But ABCNews characterizes the presidential staff as feeling "strained" as Bush press secretary Marlin Fitzwater switches off the press room indoor audio feed of Bush's remarks at a rally, forcing the press to go outside and actually cover the event to physically see the larger crowds. Fitzwater later "apologizes" for doing this.
For the Democratic presidential race, the focus is now on the Florida primary as former Senator Paul Tsongas is making inroads into Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton’s support.
