From the NewsRadio episode "The Real Deal" (Season 3, Episode 22) Bill and Lisa, badly in need of a interviewee, finds Jerry Seinfeld at a restaurant. Original Air Date: 7 May 1997
I went to a taping of News Radio and it was amazing. Phil Hartman came out did some schtick for the audience. He was so gracious. David Foley came and interacted with us. The cast was all top-notch. It was absolutely memorable.
AL13NM : Phil Hartman worked as a graphic designer before becoming a successful comedian. He designed over 40 record covers for bands such as America, Poco, Steely Dan and Crosby,Stills and Nash. The POCO "Legend" album cover is one of my favorites.
is Jerry playing himself (as a comedian with a TV show based in New York) or himself ON THE SHOW (that is to say a reasonably successful comedian but not on NBC)
@@whitleypedia Holy shit I never even thought of that! I assume it’s THE Jerry Seinfeld based on how excited Lisa is, but you never know. Honestly would be really funny if it was a subtle crossover.
It's crazy to me to see you say that, because the first time I ever caught News Radio on TV, I immediately recognized Phil Hartman's voice but couldn't quite place where I knew it from. I was still a teenager, back then, and I didn't pay too much attention to actors' distinctive voices or styles, so my initial ah-ha moment was a mistake. I was like, "I think that's Zapp Brannigan!" instead of "That's Troy McLure!"
I know the story of how he died; I just didn't know that he had that connection to Futurama. And it's extra crazy to me because I initially mistook him for being Zapp, so I guess kudos to Billy West for doing a good job with that impression.
*"Nobody cares what a comedian thinks about issues. I don't even care what I think about serious issues."* Exactly. Thank you Mr. Seinfeld. If only other celebrities understood that today.
I remember watching this episode in Australia. I went to bed thinking what a funny guy Phil Hartman was. When I turned on the tv the next morning, the news was on about how he’d been murdered. I was shocked. He was the last and first thing I saw on that date
I have always loved this show and believe that it would have been a major hit a la "Seinfeld" or "Frasier" if not for the tragic ending of Phil Hartman.
My recollection is that here in Australia this was the episode that aired the night before Phil Hartman died. I turned on the news the next morning and they said he was dead.
Jimmy James is one of the best characters I’ve ever seen! Only had 20 seconds in this clip and killed it. Surprised I hadn’t seen him in any other leading comedic roles. Until Dodgeball. Dudes the best.
He’s been in a lot of stuff…usually as a character actor/background actor. NewsRadio was his longest-lasting gig, but he has steady work…as a comedian and serious actor (he was Chris Kraft in From the Earth to the Moon…he played one of Arnold Vinick’s (Alan Alda) campaign strategists in the last season of The West Wing…plus a bunch of voiceover work as well. And of course, as someone else mentioned, he was Milton Waddams in Office Space. Chances are you’ve seen/heard him in a lot of stuff and just didn’t know it.
You've heard of a "bands band' kind of music band, this was a sitcom shows show. Honestly it was too good for it's time, I didn't even get to it until syndication years later.
In my twenties I would pause these videos with her on screen just to see her beautiful lips in various positions. She makes a creep out of me but c'mon she's freakin erotic
This scene would've been 10x more funnier if Jason Alexander walked in as George at the end of the episode and started fighting with Phil over trivial matters and shouting "George is getting upset!"
There are four Jerry Seinfelds. Jerry on Seinfeld, Jerry as a comedian, Jerry as a celebrity, and Jerry on this show. I like this one the best. It's the same Jerry we saw on 30 Rock. He's somehow a better actor when he's playing himself as opposed to "playing himself."
@@ludmillagutomo Just watch the entirety of Newsradio season 4. He had fully matured as a comedic actor and could totally carry a show at that point. He would've had a brilliant career in the years to come.
Seeing this now is a trip, I am a _News Radio_ fan from the beginning, March 1995, but I did not watch nor know _Seinfeld_ until the final season of _Seinfeld,_ September 1997, since then I am a HUGE _Seinfeld_ fan, RIP Phil Hartman, missed.
"Did Edward R. Murrow go through an agent when he interview..." My mind immediately said "Liberace" because for some reason, I recall seeing Murrow interview Liberace when I was a kid.
Folks who said Jerry was a bad actor on Seinfeld, which I kinda agree with but it made him more endearing, should look here. Jerry's doing a very different performance.
She had cancer treatments to remove a tumor a few years back--right around the time that Parenthood was going to go on the air, as Lauren Graham eventually had to step in for her.
@badi03 Good question! Jerry makes a weird smile right after the name slip, I wonder if he smiled because he just called Phil by his real name or if it actually was a real slip
@@clue104 On this take it's clear Jerry was waiting for Hartman to make the correction. Maybe the first take was by accident but on this one they knew what they were doing.
Part of the fun of this show was the interactions the characters had. While Lisa and Bill always seemed to be at odds it was funny to see them go for interviews together.
@@Hootkins. - Underrated in terms of not being relevant today. Despite both shows being popular when they aired, no one talks about them now. To me that means they're both underrated. 💯
This was fantastic. Sitcom gold. I love Seinfeld, but come on there was never anything on Seinfeld that was as funny as this scene. News Radio was such an underrated show.
@@keithbannister9271 News Radio was funnier, same with 30 Rock, The Office Cheers, and Park and Rec. Seinfeld had its moments but was way overrated IMO.
