"I read your book you magnificent bastard!" has been pretty much my favourite line uttered on television for, what, 25 years now?😅 ❤Phil Hartman lives forever in our hearts🥲
"I was cut from the high school football team, and my mother said, "Central's lost a fullback, but the McNeals have gained a daughter". In front of the other players, too!... Good times..."
this show was great because the actors had a diverse sense of humor....matthew bill beth joe dave....each a unique humor.. odd by themselves, but put it together and its funny as hell! RIP Phil.
I just watched a little documentary on this show and they said part of the reason it works so well is because they were always being threatened by the Network's who canceled. So every episode was written as if could be the last one... kind of as a slap in the face to the network execs. The actors treated it, the same. 💜💙💜💙💜
@@funniebunnie4u crazy, the network execs hated the show and changed timeslots like 10 times. here's the doc ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CoZMJgDGfy4.html
Agreed. That's what also made other great ensemble sitcoms like Cheers, Spin City, Night Court, Seinfeld, Martin, Married with Children, Taxi and Frasier work so well.
You should add, the episode about Bill / Dave quitting smoking and coffee. There's a scene where Matthew comes in, and both Bill / Dave get off on Matthew. I almost died, when I watched that scene.
Hall of Fame actor/character. NewsRadio lasts 10 years if he lives and stays with the show. Nothing against Jon Lovitz, who was good as Max, but NOBODY could do what Phil/Bill did for NewsRadio. Thank you for posting this, Jon.
Great video. You could probably do 90 or so minutes of all of the Bill McNeil gold. I love it when he buys Dave the carton of cigarettes as a gift "And they're the 100s, so that much more smoking pleasure!"
Phil Hartman truly was one of a kind 👍- so sad to hear about what happened to him 25 years ago, thanks Phil for the laughs and may he RIP My favourite NewsRadio episode was the one with the cane
Phil Hartman's Bill McNeal was very much a successor to Ted Knight's Ted Baxter of Mary Tyler Moore Show fame. Both characters were hilariously pompous, arrogant blowhards who somehow became the funniest and most lovable characters of their shows. Both men are gone and here we are still adoring both of their iconic roles.
Great clips. Although, seeing the clip with the sandwiches, I kinda wished you had included the other references to Bill's mom and his terrible childhood(as well as the other reference to her sandwiches). Again, great and funny stuff. We all miss Phil Hartman.
I didn't realize how the look of the character changed as the show went on. Were they trying to make him look older? He looks so young in the first few episodes, then his hair is longer and he's wearing the glasses more.
I was in a halfway house for recovering alcoholics and one guy was just a pain in the ass, he was using a wooden cane so we sawed off about half an inch every day for about a week before he finally noticed, but we loao.
He stole the show every time. In fact i'd go so far as to say that the show got a little slow when he wasnt on camera. And you can see it in the eyes of the cast opposite him when he says stuff they're always holding back laughs
