An easy counter would be wrapping the drone body in tinfoil. I'm assuming the material would reflect the laser and protect the drone from being cooked, plus it's light. It may buy the drone time to maneuver out of sight, getting behind concealment and what not.

@@tubyduby2816 You're joking, right? Foil is not as reflective as you seem to think and it's also super easy to burn with the right amount of heat. A common cigarette lighter can burn a hole through foil ... certainly a laser system can do the same.

The US version of NASAM should be able to work just fine. Understand that pretty much all US and NATO systems have Link-16, so they share radar data and can work together to take out targets. NASAM take big advantage of this. The US mobile unit is a Hummer with 4 AIM-120 and 2 Sidewinders. It has its own short range radar, but also has access to the GhostEye radar that the command vehicle tows. It does look like the gun on the Striker system is similar to the Gepard... that it has an air burst capability that is adjusted by the radar and targeting computer. This has been VERY effective at taking out drones. I think they should combine this with a small microwave weapon to disable its electronics too. The laser system is nice, but they are working on a mobile version that has a 300KW laser. That thing will be a beast. The NASAM units will greatly benefit from the AIM-260 missiles as they start hitting the field (they went into full production on October 1, 2022). When combined with the Link-16 system and the GhostEye, this will be incredibly effective. The AIM-120 can be fired to an area to hunt for a specific IR or radar signature. It has the Radar lock of the AIM-120, the IR lock of an AIM-9 sidewinder, and the passive radar lock of a HARM. It also has a range of 200km and travels at Mach 5. This is a game changer.

The LAV-AD Varient packs...I asked (USMC) Company Commander, rare occasion on a hike, what he thought of it. A wise man, of few words. Spoke ( shockingly), out of earshot of anyone else. "We are lightly armored reconnaissance, fast, we get in, collect intelligence & get out fast, why would we need ground based anti-air?" I said "we can depress our M242, 20mm main guns to below ***** degrees,engage point targets. The AD has a rotary barrel Gatling gun capable of putting ******rpms on point targets. He, hiking up his pack straps , told me. "They are not supposed to know we were here."

The Americans need a mobile radar dedicated to air defence, vehicle mounted it will give air defence where there are gaps in air defence as a battle develops. A mobile radar is harder to hit and good for advancing ground forces, if the army had this they could operate with less dependancy on the air force✌️♥️🇬🇧

good essay, to me. the US and NATO has great faith in Air Force control, for good reason. modern long range missiles that can change course, and especially swarms of cheap drones have changed the equation..... the key is to have lots of these, with good radars oriented to small threats, and good guns ( Gepard style ) of whatever type. Patriot style units are just too expensive v. drones. heck probably British rapier 2000 ( stinger style but with their own radars ) is way closer But stingers are probably also too expensive. Some kind of electronic ' shield' to jam the sensors of attackers is probably coming. again, a large # of units is key - there are about 4000 Strykers ? I'd say a third should be air D' units.....minimum.

The main problem with drones is that they are fundamentally cheaper than long-range missiles, but at the same time, like any aircraft, they do not depend on roads and bridges and can attack from any direction, even targets deep in the rear. In this regard, short-range air defense systems do not solve the problem of drones in any way, they can cover only a very small area (if a group of drones is not concentrated on it), but most importantly, they cannot change positions quickly enough ahead of the drones' trajectory.
@davidradtke160

We have lots of capabilities. Fighting the ACTUAL US Military and Nato combined, instead of Ukranian Civilians with a couple weeks of training and SOME Nato/USA Equipment and Mercenaries, would be like fighting against a Hydraulic Shredder that stretched from Under the waves of the oceans to the limit of the sky, and slowly pushed forward no matter what you threw at it. You might kill tanks, infantry, but that's just teeth off of the shredder that are replaced on the next revolution. The Russians thought February was a "Blitzkrieg", we'd have a path cleared of tanks and AA 50 miles wide all the way to Moscow in 3 days, and tanks in the streets of Moscow in a week if Pooty decides to up the stakes some more. The range of our last gen Cruise missles is 600 miles. We could sit in Kyiv and annihilate Moscows infrastructure, ammo depots, and bunkers from a laptop.

I don't think it would have been that lopsided. Also why? Russia would have planned for a much different war. They literally thought they'd wall into Kiev and Ukraine would topple over. Hell everyone did. Ukraine did one hell of a job training and organizing their military after Crimea and had experience against Russia. However their military would be screwed for sure if they didn't take out our airforce in the first moments. Especially with their poor performance against Ukraine. No idea how they don't have air superiority. The only thing they should be worried about now is MANPADs against helicopters and aircraft like the SU 25. Yet here we are. We need to make uh Rheinmetals type system for drones, shells, and low flying aircraft. Smart munitions thst have a proximity fuse to in the 20-30mm range that sends a shell down range and explodes to create a predictable wall of tungsten, because missiles are expensive and drones are cheap. Seriously the new rounds are dope and seen them decimate a drone swarm in one small burst. Don't understand why the US uses kinetic kill weapons. There is no margin for error in them even though it is amazing we can shoot a bullet with a bullet basically. The new laser systems look promising. Think the Stryker gets it next year and Isreal has theirs up.
@evilrooster9960
@evilrooster9960 Год назад
@@dianapennepacker6854 With how terribly the Russian Army plans its moves, yeah I'd say it'd definitely be that lopsided. They've lost all the good commanders, Generals, and officers on the front lines, they send wagner and Recruits forward without guns just to soak up enemy ammo so they can arty the position. Literally ww1 tactics going on. No spacing, no cover, attacking over open fields, etc etc shit it'd be a miracle if they could SLOW DOWN the US War Machine, much less STOP it. That's why they pout and bang their fists and threaten nukes so much, they know if USA/nato ACTUALLY gets involved, they're Fucked, cause we'd be hitting them on three fronts. East, West, from Alaska, and the Arctic. At the very least our basic infantry has fucking tactics. Lmao Like do you really think they stand a chance against Abrams X, M7 rifles for literally every squad member, F35s, F22s, Bradleys, the new light tank they just announced, the finished NGAD Fighter, brand new Bell Vtols, possibly the Invictus 360 depending on what platform we choose for the FARA program, M250s, Little Birds, the fucking Rapid Dragon Pallets that turn every Nato Cargo plane into a Mobile 45 capacity Cruise Missile Silo, All our stealth Drones, and all of our intelligence and recon tech all working together simultanously?? The Ruskies are already fuckin terrified of the Himars, and those were made in the 70s. Imagine the kinda shit we have now that nobody talks about. Don't get me wrong, the government is corrupt beyond all recognition, but they can make fucking war like no other. Not to mention, all the equipment in Ukraine rn is used by people who have had maybe a month or two training before they hit the battlefield, and they're absolutely wrecking Russian Infrastructure. Imagine what they'll do now they have M1 Abrams and Bradleys. Keep in mind, These people have only had their hands on these vehicles for a short while, our guys have been using Bradleys and M1s since the 90s.

Just as cell phones killed music players, cameras, calculator, calanders, personal assistants, .... The smart future loitering munition is what killed the tank and all other war machines. Of course today's "smart" munition like Switchblade 600, are pretty dumb and limited, compared to the Ai powered systems that's in the pipeline. For about $20K~$30K each, you'll have the power of sending 10 or 100 of them towards a target, such that they form a swarm, and arrive at the target at the same time, from all directions. This will overwhelm ANY antimissile system as they can't switch directions fast enough and don't have enough missiles without having to reload. Give me 10 such smart portable kamikaze drones for each target, and bring as many tanks of any make and model you like, and see which one of us will win. 10 missiles will cost $300K tops. In reality one or 2 smart drones will either destroy the target, or disable it. When a tank is de-tracked and can't move, the crew are sitting ducks, and easy picking for a sniper when the crew ventures out.

The United States should close every foreign base with perhaps the exception of South Korea. To stay in South Korea it should be renegotiated so that South Korea and other western allies pick up much more of the tab. We should actually start working on America safety and security. Nothing would help ensure America's safety security and future more than cutting the U.S. militarily budget by 15% per year for 4 years. Once the military budget is cut by 60% legislation should be passed that caps the military budget for a minimum of 20 years. Those 20 years should be spent looking for any additional ways to cut the military budget with the ultimate goal of reducing our military budget by 85%.
