+Anuj Chaulagain i'm inclined to agree. If i want something thorough then i'm choosing Michael's reviews every day of the week. Marques tends to be on the simpler side...gets to the point and does it well, very easy on the ear....and it's just him so i don't expect comparisons and the lot. That's too much content to push for one guy.

+L BS Question, how is the Motorola Pure a more well rounded device? The Nexus has a better camera (for pictures), better screen, finger print scanner, better front facing camera, better updates, and more premium feel. They each have front facing speakers, but for my money I'm going Nexus 6P all day. Just too much of the better thing. Curious as to why you think it's better. Also, don't mention Moto Assist, an app called Agent does the same thing and is easier to configure and offers the same thing with one downloadable application. You can also program your Nexus to respond to another key phrase as well during recording process of the always on configuration.

Nexus 6P. I have it. The main reason I wanted it was the fast updates. The camera was a priority, and I chose better low light and more saturation. The fingerprint was a cool addition as well. So was the slow-mo. Sure the Moto has some cooler features, but the fast updates and great low light shots are the main reasons I am sticking with the Nexus 6P. Whenever I see an article about a new feature in Android, I know my phone will support it in the vast majority of cases.

switched from droid turbo to Nexus 6p. I miss Moto suite but the improved performance of marshmallow and the fingerprint scanner make the Nexus 6P just a bit better. I dbrand skin all my devices so looks are subjective, but I prefer the feel of a skinned Nexus to the bulk of Moto phones. Great review!

I recently purchased the Moto X Pure when it was on sale at Best Buy for 250. It's the generic black with 32 gigs of storage. I absolutely love this phone and Poketnow's review of it helped me to choose this over similarly priced phones. Marshmallow really helps with battery life and it just feels a little more responsive as well. Great review and thanks for helping me decide which phone would suit me best.

How come the Pocketnow team never take into consideration the fact that most people outside the U.S. can't customise their Moto X if they choose to buy one? I agree it's a great feature but as someone living outside the U.S. it's just a pain.. even to buy the plastic / black version of the Moto X Style (let alone a leather or wood back model with some sort of engraving). I think this should be taken into account unless you aim to focus your reviews solely to U.S. citizens.

Great review! I ordered both phones and sent back the Moto X. It was really close. I loved Moto's Attentive Display and the easy settings wheel for the camera. But I thought the on/off button wasn't very responsive, took a bit too much effort. Which is kind of major, given how much it gets used. AND I usually keep my phones for 2-3 years. The 6P will likely still be getting Android updates in 3 years, but I doubt that the Moto X will. Which will probably make a difference in the longer-term performance, etc..

I recently got a Moto X Pure for Christmas, as an upgrade from my Nexus 5(which has been running Marshmallow for a while now, and is still one update ahead of my Moto X Pure). After turning on the Moto X, I was prompted to update the phone to Marshmallow. After the initial excitement of having a new phone, I started to be blow away by the battery life of the Moto X Pure. Even today I was blown away. I listen to music while I work, via bluetooth headphones, and today I was listening to downloaded music, streaming music, streamed a few podcasts, talked on the phone a bit, took some pictures, walked around with the camera app open, did all this stuff from 7:30 am to about 5:30 pm, and my phone's battery was still above 50%, and I never plugged it in after I left for work in the morning. The battery life on the Moto X Pure is pretty ridiculous, and it is just about the fastest charging phone on the market(which is a huge plus for me, as I go to countries like Haiti, where access to power can be dodgy). Also, I am surprised by how manageable the Moto X Pure is, for its size. I am a man of less than average American male height, with less than average hand size, and I can use the phone one handed. But, I tend to use two hands when using my phones, if I have both to spare, even if I'm using a small phone like my Nexus 5. Just wanted to share this information. I'm a Nexus fanboy, and I would have no problem recommending the Moto X Pure to anyone. It would be cool to get my hands on a Nexus 6P, just to see the differences myself.

Thanks for another awesome video, Mr. Fisher! Personally, I chose the Nexus 6P over this year's Moto X (and that's coming from a former Moto X lover). While Motorola's added features make the Moto X a must-have, I got tired of Motorola's lies in terms of updating my 2013 1st Gen to Lollipop (which never happened) among other things. And the 6P is my first Nexus ever. I'll take fast updates and promised future support any day.

If you don't need an excellent screen, a good headphone output, expandable storage and all the moto softwares improving the user experience.. go for Nexus 6P. If you don't need a fingerprint sensor, the latest snapdragon chipset, all the minor updates for the next 2-3 years.. go for Moto X Pure.
@SuperLiammail
@SuperLiammail 8 лет назад
+Valerio Melucci Well I find the Amoled screen on the 6P much better than the IPS one on the Moto X. I can't listen to headphones due to it causing hearing loss so I use a bluetooth speaker instead. Cloud storage, and honesty I don't know how one can fill all 32GB. I would probably turn those off to save battery, or if I REALLY needed them, I would use a app. Fingerprint sensor is dope af. Not why I bought the phone but a nice bonus. I get to be actually hyped for Android N!

On balance, I'll go with the Nexus phone. Mainly because of the frequent Android updates. As I'm looking to keep my phone for 18-24 months, not being confident that it's going to get updates means the Moto isn't for me. So, it's a head over heart decision.

tried the nexus 6p out but just didn't care for it. Too many pro's for the Moto X to pass it up. active display, Moto voice, turbo charging (6p is still fast, but not as fast) , expandable storage and it may be gimmicky but I really like the karate flashlight. Plus I save $100. The nexus 6p is great if you always want the latest updates, excellent build quality and a really accurate finger print sensor. However if those aren't that important to you, then I highly recommend the Moto.

I've got a 6P on pre-order, the price difference in the UK is only £20 once you added moto maker (32GB versions for both) so that erodes one of the big advantages the Moto X has in the US. Really though it's hard to argue with the closing thought of this review, both are great phones, in fact I feel like this year has been the best yet for android flagships with the G4, S6, Note 5, Z5, 6P and X style all worthy purchases to meet a variety of individual needs. Really shows the accuracy of the 'be together, not the same' schtick google has been pushing for the last 18 months.

got the mxpe, at first i was skeptical since it had the 808 processor and i didnt think it would be as fast as the 6p and since the screen isnt amoled, i like saturated colors. well my mxpe is rooted and has custom rom on android 6.0 installed for speed optimizations and removed all the bloat and just keep moto things we like, with the ROM im getting over 6 hours of on screen time. the kernel i used allows kcal settings which u can increase the saturation and contrast and get deeper blacks and more saturated colors. i never been so happy with this phone lol.. this mxpe is amazing, i recommend it

What rom? I'd be down to download it. But yea. I think that you can't go wrong with the 808 just because of the community. Any snapdragon really. I was able to push 60K on my HTC One M8 on Antutu 6.1

I will go for nexus 6p as it gets faster updates and better software and I like its design it is slippery but I like it and the processor and the GPU are much better and the display is the best as it is amoled panel and frankly I don't care about moto maker becoz in country like India it is not available and I will get my nexus next month soon as my exam will be over but the comparison is really good.too job Michael that's why you are my favourite reviewer

Been binging old reviews on the channel over the last few days. Crazy to see how phones have come in what seems like a short time. Back in 2015, I was 18-19, rocking an iPhone, looking back I wish I would've gotten one of these. Funny thing though, fall 2017, iPhones pretty much gone to crap, was looking for a new phone. I look on eBay and find a Moto x pure. I loved the design of it, I remember in 2013 wanting one of the original Moto x phones. But, as soon as I got it, the phone was pretty much bricked, the seller didn't tell me this when I bought it and I sent it back, got my money back. Ended up buying a Nexus 6p after that, it had one final software update on it. I loved that phone, great screen, good speakers. But, the battery was already shot to hell, I dealt with it for a year then in 2018 got an iPhone XR when it came out for my birthday. But, rewatching this video and the others, I really miss this kinda android and phone designs/phone making. Even though they were all to a degree still slabs, at least some had character. Now, every phone is the same pretty much. But, that's just how things go sometimes I guess. Either way, it's cool to go back and relive some of the days as this guy now says " when phones were fun ".

Thanks for the great review. I have been torn between these 2 phones for some time now. When the Moto X went on sale the week before Christmas, $350 for the 32GB version, my decision was made. It is hard to pass up at that price. However, I've now been through 2 replacements trying to get a phone that 100% issue free. The first 2 had background static in audio through the handset earpiece. The 3rd had buttons that were so loose that they rattled. In the end Amazon said enough is enough and refunded my money. But I really liked the phone, so I am kind of disappointed with the issue resolution. That said, the Nexus 6P is once again in the running as my next device. However, without an SD slot, I'll have to get the 64GB version, and that is a far shot from the $350 that I paid for the Moto.

"Addictive" is absolutely appropriate for describing the moto x. I've tried ditching it for several others and I always end up coming back. I received marshmallow a couple months which is much welcomed. I think if you could take the 6P low light capabilities, fingerprint sensor, and slow motion video and put them on the Pure, that might be the pinnacle of Android.

Great review I made the same choice. And I love the moto x pure I get a while day out of it as well 6 hours onscreen time yesterday does not seem to be bad at all. Plus the colour on the nexus 6p chops terribly and the visor on the back scratches like hell so if you don't put a case on it your bummt.

I prefer the overall look, shape, and size of the Moto X Pure (as I've thought the original Nexus 6 was one of the best looking phones I'd ever seen - with the exception of the size being a little too large for me personally, and the Moto X looks very similar in design). On the other hand I'm also a huge OLED fan, and love my true blacks and epic contrast. Finally I've become accustomed to having a fingerprint reader on my phone, as well as some level of water resistance (currently using a Samsung Galaxy S5). I'm probably going to continue holding out for a phone that combines the look of the Moto X with the specs of the Nexus 6P (preferably with the fingerprint reader on the front of the device!). Great review - Thanks

Motorola X Pure for sure. Coming from an HTC One M8, I use the speaker all the time. It truly bumps and Im looking for the same sound quality in the next phone I buy. The video stabilization looked incredible as well!

I have a moto X and I love it, I've had it since it launched, but I am probably going to upgrade to the 6P instead. The Moto has been great but I want that AMOLED display, fingerprint sensor, and that better battery life. Also I had to factory reset my Moto because the performance was really beginning to become sluggish.

I'm watching this on my Nexus 6 I just bought for $289. I had a Moto X and didn't like it, it felt like you could feel the hesitation as it switched form the 2 cores to the 4. I love my Nexus 6 even though it's a year old its well worth every penny.

Moto X Pure by a long shot. I'll take the Moto features, smaller size, cheaper price, and especially the SD slot over the fingerprint scanner, better low light camera, and fast updates. The last point is moot as well since the Moto X Pure was the first phone after the Nexuses to get upgraded to marshmallow.

Great reviews and I almost pulled the trigger on the MX Pure but decided to try out Fi. If you get a Fi account, you can add the cost of the nexus as installments to your bill so now I hope to pay less than I was with Verizon for the same plan AND a sweet new phone. I'll miss the Moto features and gestures, though.

Very good comparison Michael. I too would choose the Moto X Pure Edition over the Nexus 6P. Right now I'm not too sure which one to choose between the Droid Turbo 2 or the Moto X Pure Edition. I'm leaning more to the MXPE because of the price and the updates should reach it faster than the Droid Turbo 2 since verizon is know to delay updates for months on their devices. Than again with the Droid Turbo 2 I can get a "free" refresh withing a year by purchasing the 64GB option and that my friend is what has me on the fence between these two devices.

still pretty undecided on which I will be choosing soon, as a Moto G user I'll moat likely be moving to the Pure / Style over the 6p. Front facing stereo speakers, brighter display, slightly better camera for my use will be good enough for me. I don't particularly need a fingerprint sensor either, pin is fine for me!

I went with the Nexus 6P. I wonder if I have made the wrong choice. However I do love the design language or both Motorola and Huawei but quick updates and the snappy fingerprint scanner helped make my decision easier. :)

You make some interesting points! However, given that these two phones are not on the same software, and in addition the updated state of Moto software updates, I'd be hard pressed not to throw more weight into the Nexus experience. Your review should have a weighted seesaw leaning towards the Nexus IMO. Appreciate your reviews as always...

Just made this decision this week. I thought I'd want the 6P, but after playing with them both I went with the Moto. I liked the display on the 6P a tad better, but really liked Moto Voice and the way Moto integrates it. I had a P8 last year (only for a few months), and said at the time that I'd never touch a Huawei again. If the 6P was made by any other maker, I'd give it a chance. I do like the aluminum, but I think the back looks just terrible on the 6P. Like the expandable storage on the Moto, also. And the TurboCharger is the real deal. Moto X Pure is a very nice phone for what they are charging for it.

Awesome comparison video Mr. Fischer! I still can't decide which one tho. I'm leaning towards the Moto X for the simple fact it has expandable storage. If the X had a fingerprint sensor, then it would be a no-brainer.

I really couldn't stand the vibrate motor in the Moto X so I sent it back and got a 6P. Both great phones other than that. Fingerprint reader is great on 6P too, never thought I'd need one but it is very convenient.

Michael Fisher makes me watch phone reviews even if I just bought a phone already. I'll always stay with the significantly inferior Note series because of the stylus apps I can't study without, but if I didn't need them I'd go for either of these phones.

Great video as always mr. Fisher! :D Personally, I would go with the Nexus... BUT... that's not saying the Moto X is bad... I was considering it up until I saw Google's offering. Because I see that the extra 100 bucks is well-worth it for me, I'm willing to sacrifice the customizability, the excellent software from Moto and the better feel in hand for a fingerprint scanner, better battery and a better low light camera. I'm a night owl... I live in the dark. It's quite close but I think the Nexus is just that little better.

White Walnut Moto X Pure Edition (w/ Light Aluminum Accents to match the Frame). If I don't like the White Front, I'll swap it for free with a Black Front & Walnut Back (w/ Dark Aluminum Accents to match the Frame). I like to have a ton of storage for tons of locally stored music, photos, & 4K Video & the custom Voice Launch Phrase is a must-have for me. I'm just hoping Motorola will add FULL Camera2 API support (for Full Manual Camera Controls in 3rd-party apps) in the Android v6.0 Marshmallow update. I might go Nexus next year if they don't have a VERY convincing Moto X Pure 2016 with FULL Camera2 API support.

Chose a nexus 6p here after selling my nexus 6. Coworker got the Moto X Pure though, and I have to say I was really impressed. I prefer the n6p, but the Moto X Pure is a really refined high quality phone, probably superior to the n5x, though that's debatable. I have yet to see a 5x in person to decide on it's build quality, but the 6p is second to none. Most premium and prettiest android phone I've ever held (the Samsung s6 felt weird and pointless with the glass back).

Oh dear baby Jesus. Both these phones are sooo good. All the Moto X needs is some split screen love and that would kill it for me. I can't believe I'm pining over a Samsung Android feature but honestly, running 2 apps simultaneously is an awesome feature that should be built into android.

Very apt comparison... Smoothly done. But here is where I get stuck. I can live with an older Android version and less prompt updates mainly because Moto will get the update sooner than later, but the battery life is the one that bugs me about Moto X. If I have to carry one of these bulky phones (they are heavy.. Ugh!), then I don't want to put in charger after half a day.

Excellent comparisons! I have a 2015 Moto X and the software is a double edged sword with it. While the Moto touches on it are very handy, the way the new Motorola that is now owned by Lenovo worries me. They've already stopped supporting the 2015 Moto E, and it's less than a year old. What are the chances that they'll actually support the 2015 Moto X in two years, much less than one? At least with Nexus, you're guaranteed to have updates the next two years or more. I used to unabashedly recommend Moto phones to everyone that asked my opinion. Now, I begrudgingly tell people to look elsewhere for the best Android phone. It's a shame because the 2015 Moto X is a great device, but the changes to Motorola since it's acquisition by Lenovo have made a once fantastic company a terrible one.
