Great to see the ongoing interest in our Sega NFL 2K series. I was the voice of Dan Stevens, the play-by-play announcer and Jay Styne was the color man, Peter O'Keefe. Brian Luzzietti was our producer/director, and he was brilliant. Damn, what a great run we had, only to be put out of business by our own success. The price of our game was lowered to 20 bucks in 2004. THIRTY DOLLARS LESS THAN MADDEN. So freaked was EA that they essentially bought us out. But they never equalled the incredible architecture of our game. I salute the programming and front office people at Sega 2K who made the greatest sports video game of all time. And I'm glad to have been a part of it.
You and Jay did an amazing job. I still play 2K5 to this day since it's better than anything EA can produce. Wish the NFL would drop EA as an exclusive rights holder and open their license back up so 2K can make NFL games again.
Broke out my Dreamcast last night and introduced this to my eight year old. After playing a couple games with him he's like "this is better than Fortnite"!
This game makes me almost tear up. I remember playing this on Christmas morning. I loved the Vikings team they had this year and Dreamcast was the future. So good I thank you for this. I’m battling brain cancer so it’s very nice to think of simpler times when I was 9 years old playing this
This game was so ahead of it's time. Still remember how amazed I was the first time I played both this and NBA2K. Yes games have since come a long ways, but at the time these were cutting edge graphics.
Yeah i got it from my grandfather because i like collecting classic games. And to be honest these graphics hold up VERY well. And look better then Madden's on the ps2 days. Which is insane because this came out in 99.
Jenna Gass yes dis was definitely the first game with the realistic cut secens after each play....I remember watching it played for the first time at game stop in the mall...I got a Dreamcast and the game for Christmas later that year.....I was to excited
The first video Football Game to have animation that was so real that you thought the players in the game were getting hurt on every play. To this day, I still would take a 2K game over Madden.
I think this was the game that started the realistic looking sports games. This Dreamcast was by far the best ever graphically speaking. Look at the graphics and compare it to those Madden games. You can see this is superior
Loved Dreamcast. It will always be in my top 3 for most enjoyable game systems. The detachable visual memory card was mind blowing technology at the time. You could pick your plays off it instead of your opponent seeing your options on the screen. To date, that clever maneuver has yet to matched.
I remember being so excited to get my Dreamcast. First console I got day one. I also remember nearly shitting my pants when I saw players breath in cold weather games in an NFL 2K trailer. I basically went through a Dreamcast console just from playing this game. Then turning the console upside down to get it to spin the discs until I got a replacement. For a while, my life consisted of NFL 2K, Sonic Adventure, Ready 2 Rumble, and Air Force Delta. Good times.
"A MAN APART" Brought me here starring Vin Diesel. I remember owning the Dreamcast back in 2000 and me and my homies playing this game. Brought back memories
The Downfall to football games was not having any competition due to the NFL license being sold solely to Madden. Madden stopped trying to improve their game play and sold the same game year after year.
Facts they copy and past there games year after year. I remember when you could create your own plays that was the best. Your speaking facts 100%. Everyone is like i hope 2k makes a simulation game they are releasing a arcade football game in 22 but i bet its better then any simulation madden and more fun to play as well.
My cousin was a Madden stan and we almost came to blows over which was better at my grandfathers annual Christmas party lol. Between this game and the original NBA 2k I never wanted to leave my house. Dreamcast is still my all time favorite system!
Looking at this game in 2018, just reminds me on this game was way ahead of its time because the game play looks amazing besides of course the graphics cause its old.
Lmao. The memory card options... LOVED THIS GAME. Moss w the gloves in his facemask! The intro song was hyped. Moss will always be my goat reciever. TO. Rice. Are insane as well. Etc etc. Megatron too. Tim Brown. So many greats. It's just with Moss.... I watched him dismantle his heavily stacked division's secondaries. Every week. He was insaneeeeee lol. Although. Nfl is fillleddd w hella talent over the years... There are no best. All preference.
And what's even crazier is that Barry Sanders was on the Lions and he retired before the season started. In addition, my hometown Carolina Panthers still had Rae Carruth (well, we all know what happened, being from NC...)
have you played it recently? Its' as smooth as silk, smarter AI too. 10 has better graphics and presentation, but 09 plays better on the field. Go watch some gameplay.
One of my favorite NFL video games I love playing. I played it for the 2011 NFL season as the Los Angeles Rams and the Tennessee Titans. It was a blast.
Yeah we’d never seen anything like this before! I traded in my PS1 with like 100 games for a Dream Cast and 5 games when it first came out, had to have one. That was the longest trade in receipt I’d ever seen at that time 🤣 Sega was doing the most back then…
It is actually sad how much better of a football game this is than any madden released in recent years. The game has more depth, better collision mechanics, better replication of the game outside of just gameplay - it’s just a great football game.
This game I played to death. The presentation of this game is far superior to any madden game. The menu and loading screen music, a simple riff that gets you hyped up in the game. No lame soundtracks. Even the loading screen was just awesome.
I remember watching commercials and saying how realistic the game looked. Don’t at these graphics with the 1080P/4K graphics of 2019. Watchin this game this game from the grain boxed 📺 from 1999.
I still play! Amazing game still! On Offense my favorite play to run is the Inside Curls and Comeback and Slant n Go in the Shotgun Formation while keeping a few audibles on deck. TE’s are usually my go 2 guys. FB Blast and Belly Split works for me too. On defense I like playing as a pass rusher. Love the 3-4 and I have the A.I blitz while I play FS or SS as I typically in the right area when ball is thrown. I never play CB or DT and i am only a DT to shift the line. The dime formation is the next best 4 me and keep that blitz man coming. AI cant F with a hurdles if they’re timed correctly. Whoever playing this need to play anything more than Rookie difficulty.
This still holds up,except for uniforms, stadiums, newer teams, players and rules changes. With ea sticking to the same old graphics, that is why a football game never went to the next level in graphics.
Love this game! Does anyone know what "profile" means in the create a team section? It's right under "playbook" and you can choose any of the NFL teams.
How did our eyes fool us back in the day? I remember my uncle thinking it was a real game. Legit how did it fool us? It's weird really. Also the physics kill anything being made today... 2023-2024
Geez. These games, (the original 2K DC series) for as great as they were when they came out, have not aged well. They don't look anything like I remember them. It's really weird that has happened.
LoL ... Not for nothing I would buy a Dreamcast off eBay and try to remod it like I saw one youtuber did ... He transformed his Dreamcast by getting rid of the CD drive and installing a SD card slot and installed an ethernet adapter ... He has a collection of Dreamcast games on SD cards and can access the internet, he really did a heck of a job updating his Dreamcast.
