because bad and controversial calls get attention. NFL does this on purpose to keep people talking about the NFL. If they didn't football would be boring.
It’s comically subjective. The second incident was by a defender that weighed about 50 pounds less. If that was a d lineman they would’ve looked and been like omg that must’ve hurt, better throw a flag. Genuine lack of football knowledge and experience by these crews. A reffing crew should include at least one player from each major position group. If you have an ex wide receiver or d back down the field looking at this they’d have an enormous pool of experience and could say nah they are just battling or ya he grabbed his arm in that sneaky way veterans do to hide it from the ref. If there was a former lineman watching these blocks they’d know, ya that was a clean af pancake block. These refs are purely academic, nothing practical.
It also depends on the quarterback too unfortunately. They’ll throw flags for touching the top guys in the league while watching backups or newer guys get demolished. The lack of consistency is what infuriates me and the nfl just isn’t enjoyable to watch. I’ll stick with my Bs and hockey
Thank you for including that EGREGIOUS call in the Eagles Saints game. THe Birds largely beat themselves that day, but that was just... ugh. Utter incompetence. Not too far to say this potentially cost Philly the game.
To be fair, all of the games they've struggled with this season they've largely beaten themselves with errors/bad play calling. But it doesn't help that there have been multiple games with just absolute bullshit refs. I'm not at all saying that it always changed the result of the game, but man is it frustrating as hell.
@@mepp7573 He never extended his arm, he just tried to free it to catch the ball. Though I agree the angle did look weird, but the play should have been reviewed a bit longer
@Robert Reital what other way are you talking about?? did you notice that both video clips about that games went the chiefs way?? There could have been more calls the went the chiefs way as well. In 38 years of watching the NFL, I've never thought the refs were so biased trying to help one team win as it was in this game. I won't watch any longer.
Or is it just people who have no single clue about rules and have never refereed a single game in their life, and think they are experts? Yes, that is it.
Thank you for this I literally clicked on this video just to make a variation of this comment. I'm not ashamed of that. Sending prayers for him. His foundation has received tremendous support as we await more news as well.
What was even more cool, is they were not waiting for the NFL to approve it, they called it and said the hell with Goodell, who was procrastinating about it.
New York should be able to call in and override miscalls live. if there's a replay angle that shows clear evidence contradicting the call, they should be able to chime down and correct it. if they can do that for injuries and ejections why not miscalls?
PI on Denver is insane… Team leading the league in IR with an interim head coach and leading the Chiefs in arrowhead lol yeah we gotta do something about that
I think the best change is to put the head ref for the game in a replay booth instead of out on the field and if he/she see a penalty on the play, then the head ref can radio to the other refs to throw a flag and if the refs on the field through a flag then they wait for quick confirmation from the head ref before they announce the flag. And to make up for lack of refs on the field just higher another ref for that position. Also prayers out #3 please get well soon!
Yes! And to avoid that whole mess the NFL had with challenging PI's the ref who throws the flag would talk to the head ref on what they saw. Head ref reviews that penalty and calls it themselves to see if it holds or if they're picking up the flag. It's a quick review that even the broadcast team can see when they look at it. They already review turnovers, catches, and touchdowns. Why not penalties? But the more it seems like the NFL is against reviewing penalties I'm here thinking I might as well wear my tin foil hat and call the NFL a more entertaining WWE.
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 you know there are female refs now right lol. Have you not watched the NFL in the past 3 seasons, or do you think the refs with the long hair are just a bunch of Fabio fans???
I’m a Lions fan, but holy shit, Falcons are on here getting screwed every. single. week! But also as being a Lions fan, you’ll see a bunch of Lions ‘penalties’ against the Packers next week.
When they said that it was roughing the passer on Dak Prescott. It was clear that he grabbed the back of the Titans jersey and pulled him down onto him 1:37
That first clip is something a lot of o-linemen unfortunately gets called for holding when it was clear domination. These holding calls really ruins the game. And before people say it, I'm not an Eagles fan, I'm not a Saints fan, I'm only pointing out the obvious that refs wouldn't know what an actual holding call is even if it's happening right in front of them.
The refs made the niners look fraudulent. And they still powered through. I’m just gonna hope people actually watch this game instead of looking at the box score and just assume the niners are frauds
@@vlatkohajko7171 Thats a different penalty though. Something like “contact with an official” or something like that. They called unnecessary roughness.
kind of weird seeing Brady Quinn in the broadcast booth because normally we usually see him on big noon Saturday for fox's college football coverage/pregame show
This isn’t a new problem. There’s never an ex o lineman in the reffing crew. They have no idea what it’s like to play the position and thus have little understanding of what holding is in real time.
1. Praying for Damar 2. I will no surprise for bad calls in post-season 3. Looks the falcons head coach is every video from bad calls, wow Edit 2: I'm NFC fan, that's all.
It has been an interesting year as a Packers fan. After years of getting calls thanks to it being Rodgers/Adams and a 13 win team, this year has been a minefield of atrocious no-calls. I don't know if the record has bearing or if it is the rotation of young and/or unestablished receivers, but they just have not been getting calls consistently.
KC refs have been giving Chiefs preferential homecourt favor from what I've seen. 11:52 Seahawks got called offsides (probably correctly) instead of false start by the offense but when Chiefs encroach the exact same way when playing the Seahawks and the center head nod it was called false start. No consistency. It seems like on controversial calls at KC home it usually goes their way.
@@nathanielsmith9400 the chiefs have gotten a lot of bad calls this year and a lot of bad no calls as well. there are calls that should have went against the chiefs and some in favor of, and thats for every team
@@AverageJosh769 I totally agree but I’m just saying that sometimes refs take the game out of the players hands and this happens more often then not with better teams like the chiefs
The dobbs sack wasnt roughing the passer because the defensive player didnt land on the QB. Meanwhile when prescott was sacked the defensive player did land on the QB. Good calls.
*"He just pile drives him"* *"That's just a great block"* Two things that show you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. It was holding, and he continued to hold him, it doesn't matter if the player then tried to tackle in spite of the hold, it's still holding. Being an Eagles fangirl won't change that. It just shows that the commentators are almost as bad as the refs, if not worse.
So the “hold” in this situation is more of a leverage thing than it is restriction. He’s not stopping him from getting to the RB by holding, he’s using the hold to drive him into the ground, and that’s legal
The roughing the passer call, is so inconsistent you have zero clue as to when you will or not be called on it. There has to be clarification with that penalty during the offseason, and a ton of training on it.
The holdin call against Dickerson in the Eagles game was an absolute disgrace. Total momentum change in the game if that touchdown stands which it should have
0:29 literally grabbing and holding the inside of the chest plate of #91. Textbook holding per NFL rulebook Use his hands or arms to materially restrict an opponent or alter the defender’s path or angle of pursuit. It is a foul regardless of whether the blocker’s hands are inside or outside the frame of the defender’s body. Material restrictions include but are not limited to: 1. or tackling an opponent; 2. hooking, jerking, twisting, or turning him; or 3. pulling him to the ground. 9:24 was also a false start by Atlanta #40 right side. So maybe they offset?
As a titans fan, I thought it was funny that Dallas and Tennessee went in with the same amount of penalties yet Tennessee out-penalized the Cowboys by far!
Dickerson: that's called a pancake block one of the greatest joys of playing Madden NFL is when your offensive lineman knocks a Defensive lineman backwards flat on his ass. Doesn't happen too often. But when it does it's fucking awesome.
1:38 Good call. He landed with his body weight on the quarterback. 1:48 is an example of a legal hit on the quarterback. He knocked him on his ass and controlled himself and didn't land on him with his body weight.
5:55 that was an intentional shove and anyone who says he was trying to just get up or something is being silly. is it ticky tack? yes. did he intentionally shove a guy down after the play was over? yes. that's a penalty by the letter of the law. i personally would not have called it, but it was a penalty.
Dak Prescott: it's not the drive, it's the head on helmet to helmet collision that should be called. That is dangerous. It is shady. And it is banned from football.
The Seahawks Center was called several times for a false start for that same move before the snap. I think that is why Pete Carroll was so upset about the offside call instead of a false start in the Jets game. There should be clarity about the head bob before the snap from a Center. Is it a false start or not? I have no strong preference either way but consistency would be good.
Cam Heyward was a victim of refball to the highest degree. What do you expect him to do on the top of that dogpile when the damn offensive lineman are literally pulling him down?
What's the point of the commentators ever bringing in the old officials like Gene Steratore or Terry McAulay to give their take. It's rare when they don't agree with a call, seems pretty redundant getting their take
