That’s not true, NRL also has garbage time. For example, dropouts have a 30 second clock, and same as the scrums. When the ball goes out of play the clock only stops if it’s the last 10 minutes. Also when there is a penalty there is about 20 seconds of garbage time. Also when a conversion is kicked the time is actually running
I’ve followed rugby league my whole life, and even played it when I was younger - this would have to be one of the best explanations of the game condensed into an eight minute video. Obviously there are more rules than just this, and they didn’t go into much details about the penalties, but you’ll find this game fun, because it is not so much stopping and starting as in the NFL. Watching NFL on TV is great for play, but just seems like it stops way too much for ad breaks. No time for ads in the NRL, only during half time 😊

So for starters mate our game is called Rugby League not Rugby, Rugby is Rugby Union. They're two entirely different codes of footy with entirely different rules. So call Rugby League, League so not to be confused with Union 😊. I think Americans will actually have their eye's wide open, especially NFL players & be in shock & awe at our boys & actually see that League is all about skill & execution as well as stamina, hard hitting & the acrobatics. They'll see big bodies collide, players getting absolutely shit mixed yet they'll stand straight up & play the ball. To be at a game & see big boppers (our forwards who are the big boys) being smashed & hearing that body on body contact is the best part of the game. That Travis Swift bloke recently came out saying League players how no skills at all & NFL is a lot tougher.... This coming from a bloke that plays footy in ballet tights, wearing padding & helmets & the game stopping every 5 seconds after each play. All we can say is yeah nah mate, he wouldn't last 5 minutes in League 😂

Worth noting that a "spear tackle" means something different in Rugby League. It isn't a Goldberg-style shoulder to the midriff. That's just a normal tackle. In Rugby League, a "spear tackle" means picking someone up, turning them upside down and spearing them skull-first into the ground. Of course, it is a penalty offence... but it still happens.
Americans have the potential to play rugby league but it's a matter of setting up the system for grade school and high school kids. Dominic Young is a perfect example he tried rugby league at the age of 15 back home in England and years later is now in the NRL with the sydney roosters. BTW You might get to see him in Vagas.
It’s so great that after 120 odd years of playing it is limited to the East Coast of Australia and North of England where it is struggling for credibility. Don’t you remember when they took an Origin game to LA in 1982 and it was laughed out of town 😂. Great game for easily entertained simple people.
few more rules kind of need to be explained but for the most part thats the game there is the 40-20 rule you kick from before your 40 and out over the 20 of the opposite side you get the ball back at the 20m line and one of the biggest is held up so just crossing the goal line isn't enough you must control the ball and put it down with downward pressure the defending team can stop you over the goal line and hold the ball off the ground so you cant place it down and its a dropout so drop kick from the goal line by the defenders to defend for another set of 6 tackles/downs
I'm and Aussie Rules fan and generally only watch a few games a season including the Origin. These guys in Vegas are going to show you just how silly and overpaid your NFL players and game are, sorry, I can't stand the NFL, it's sooooo stop/start and boring that's why you need great adverts and some random half time entertainment because Americans are so lost in the show boating of these so-called stars, most Aussies would be like Meh, who cares, get on with the game. Hopefully, it's a good show and I think you'll really like it mate, it's a tough sport.
loved playing rugby league as a teen, often during lunch we would be playing full tackle rugby league on concrete basketball courts and we wouldnt care if we slammed them into the concrete it was great fun between friends sometimes even the teachers would get involved and play, it was nothing to go into class with skin off the knees from tackling or diving for someone
You'll notice that one body type dominates in Rugby League. Big chest, thick legs. These athletes put in a tremendous amount of training in order to be able to take those hits and move with explosive speed.

When I was a kid a Gridiron team came to Australia to watch our footy and they said they couldn't do it without their helmets and pads. You guys will love it. The bad news is a reality check. Neal, thanks for sharing Rugby League with your non-Aussie followers. There is a huge opportunity for the thousands of guys who don't quite make it to the NFL to have a career in this game. They'll have to up their endurance though. Player salaries vary from $120K to $1.4M a season (100% guaranteed) but there is a salary cap limiting the 17 teams to $12.5M each.
There are also 12 teams in the British Super League and 9 in the French Elite 1. But is there really an opportunity for failed American Football players? There have been a few attempts to move from American Football to League The most successful (that I know of) were: Manfred Moore in 1977, who managed 4 games before getting injured and returning to the NFL Al Kirkland (who didn't play NFL but played 2 years at USC including a win in the Rose Bowl). Kirkland managed 1 season playing in Australia in 1955 (for Parramatta) and was set to play for Leeds in the UK but couldn't get a working visa. and Lucius Banks a Quarterback for West Point who played 13 games for Hunslet in Yorkshire in 1912. He didn't return to the NFL (because it didn't yet exist). Given that is three (partial) successes, and none of them have happened in the last 45 years, it doesn't seem like there is as much opportunity as you may think.
John there's plenty of opportunity they don't even know the sport exists and no serious recruitment effort has been made by the English, French or Australian Rugby Leagues. At least not in the way the NFL has established a foreign pathways program.
Don't get me wrong, I love and enjoy watching AFL, but when I watch people reacting to "the biggest hits of AFL", that is the entire 80 minutes of every game of League and Union

Where Rusell crowe,talks about drop punt,we call it a drop kick, Theres only 5 tackles in the game,the only time when you do get 6 tackles is if the opposition catches the ball behind the tryline area,then they get rewarded 20 metre restart with 6 tackles.
A Spear Tackle is where one player spears another player head first into the ground. Obviously that is an illegal play, and decades ago it would get a player a 10 minute Penalty in the Sin Bin, these days it gets a player a several week ban to a few months, to potentially a life time ban.
Well best punt/bomb maybe. Overall I'd say Cleary is probably the best kicker in the game. Grubber, punt, bomb, conversion, drop kick - yeah I think Cleary has em covered.
That will be one hard match… well worth viewing… not sure how many demo games they may play but if there is only the one , it will be hard; be interesting seeing if the ref will stamp his foot at the beginning or let them tire them selfs out in the first 15 or 20 minutes….
You've never tried a drop kick goal before? Honestly, try it. You will feel a great sense of achievement when you first time perfectly the point of the ball hitting the ground slightly angled back(just a matter of practice) at the same time your swing of your leg contacts the ball slightly below the middle of the ball. Don't worry about using our league balls. I had mates who played here in Australia, one played centre for the stingrays and the NFL ball have great distance. Kick with what you are used to. Just a suggestion, take a camera and film your attempts before editing for a RU-vid download. I can say when you nail it, you will see it in edit
For Americans to understand the size and strength of these players, think Jordan Mailata of the Eagles, he played Rugby League prior to the NFL, so think about yourself lining up against Jordan Mailata while he is running at you full steam, you have to tackle him, no protection, just do it.
Only issue I see is apparently the width of the NFL field is about 5 metres less than NRL fields, which will probably mean less expansive attack and a more forward dominated game up the middle which is OK for big hits but not as good for attack.
The NRL couldn't have picked a better time to introduce rugby league to the American audience. It's right after the Super Bowl, and at a time when the NFL fans have had it with Taylor Swift.😂

I agree with you, but I do think the name is a bit confusing for new comers. A league is usually a competition based around a sport, so they are naturally reading/hearing "Rugby.. league" rather than "Rugby League" and they just think it's a competition for Rugby. That was part of the reason one side wanted to change it to Super League for more international appeal in the 90's. We have an unfortunate name which makes it more confusing, but I agree it is good to point it out so others understand. Mainly because if they think it's Rugby Union who is going to tune in?

What is being played in Vegas is **RUGBY LEAGUE** Completely different to “rugby” or rugby union which is what most of you are thinking of. I think you’ll all be pleasantly surprised. Rugby LEAGUE is a lot more exciting and fast paced. And that’s what you guys are getting in Vegas. Not “rugby” union. The ‘All Blacks’ from New Zealand etc, is rugby union which is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to what is coming to Vegas.

Heads up there are 2 forms of rugby. Union and League.. this is League it’s not called rugby! It’s League! When you say rugby your referring to the rugby Union as it’s known as Rugby which is play in the US at Ivy League colleges etc and what most Americans know to be rugby. But they are 2 different games and with different plays while yes both may look the same they are not.. am not a Union fan but grew up with League my favourite games to watch is the state of origin especially back in the 80s and 90s etc. bring back the bufff. 😊🇦🇺
