If anyone is wondering, no i didn't purposely put a lot of Steelers plays, it just kinda happened that way Sidenote: while the hit at 4:25 was legal at the time (2010), it became illegal only 3 years later and that injury also forced that player to retire.
Bud Dupree' s hit wasn't illegal to me. He didn't necessarily lead with his head he hit him in the chin area. And ike taylors? He turned his head and the runner put his head down to meet him instead of going out of bounds. So
I do love how, like in the Ravens Steelers one with Heath Miller, and the Steelers Dolphins ones, the players on the team opposite of the one hit in the head are waiving to the other team's sidelines for help. It shows that even rivals care about each other as human beings.
You guys are too young to remember that the jets were a competitive team for a couple of years. They were one touchdown away from an SB appearance at one point.
Rashaun Alexander there's a difference between "old fashion" and just wanting to kill someone, but wait you're a bills fan lol Only reason why I say that is because any team that goes against you always has their star players getting hurt
played football in middle school and one year in high school. so glad I stopped. pretty sure I had concussions that went untreated I'm lucky I don't have ill effects from it
Ike Taylor lead with the shoulder, he purposefully turned his body sideways to avoid helmet to helmet contact. Clean hit Bud Dupree didn't make any contact with Moore's helmet, and he pushed him with his hands, his momentum shot him forward, as it should. Clean hit There's only TWO dirty Steelers plays in here, maybe look into things at different angles before you call them illegal.
I agree, that was very nice of him. I hate the fact, though, that 53 saw him laying on the ground, hurt, but just didn’t seem to care. Maybe he went back and apologized Idk
I started playing around 1995. I was in the 4th grade and played middle linebacker. These are the types of hits I was coached to LOOK FOR not avoid. The "wooooo" was the goal. I'm glad our game has evolved to empathize safety over excitement.
Yeah football used to be like America's gladiator sport. Now, it still is, they're just trying to make it a less deadly gladiator sport. I can handle seeing the dislocations, hyper extensions and bone breaks, but head hits and spinal injuries make me cringe. I can't even bring myself to cheer for hits like that.
@henrybartholomew I can’t. I played football and I love football. I used to like tackling I would go low and wrap guys up. Kinda scary and dumb to use your brain as a missile.
jake weir sadly it's true. But as football can leave people with brain injuries and memory loss. Not very fun. Though the guys on this field did agree to play.
They should have named the rule against helmet-to-helmet hits the “Jack Tatum” rule. He wrote the book on using one’s helmet as a weapon to injure, maim, or even paralyze your opponent.
You've clearly never played the game. Try running at another player at full speed while he is doing the same and see if you can miss the helmet every single time. When they both lower their bodies before impact, they have a fraction of a second to "aim" their hit. It's unfortunate that this happens but that's part of it. Don't like it, don't play it. These players know the risks of playing when they signed up.
I will agree with this when offensive players are fined and ejected for jumping or lowering their heads making it where defensive players know they can hit low without hitting the offensive helmets or being jumped over.
@@infamousrager7916 Get rid of the helmets and see what happens. Id imagine tackles would move lower to where they are supposed to be and runners sure wouldn't be lowering their heads anymore lol
The biggest mistake most of these guys made was launching themselves off the ground. it already looks like they're about to crown someone in the head before impact. The players are getting better at that lately
Murf Kuhls they shouldn’t be legal making head to head contact hits makes both player who knock head at a risk of concussion, and what about cte that brain injury that is caused by head injuries (concussions) causes most suicides in retired NFL players. Making head hits legal is dangerous for the player of the NFL period
CrunchyCuts If they don't wanna play they don't have to. It was part of the game for many years. Thats what made the game what it was untill 3 or 4 years ago. Time to start a new league.
The fact that I heard that a player suffered 2 concussions in a year and is still on the field is why the NFL is being sued so heavily. Most athletic commissions issue a 6 month medical suspension on concussions just so they can keep athletes healthy. The NFL is grossly negligent.
They need to do longer suspensions for these types of hits Trevathan should have gotten a 6 game suspension in my opinion harsher punishments will help keep your favorite players on the field.
RC RACER 88 “beating his wife” all he did was drag her, that is a couple bruises if anything, this DIRTY hit could’ve been at the very least brain damage or a mild concussion, if anything severe thank god it wasn’t he could’ve easily been paralyzed or had a broken neck from this hit. Now would you think a few bruises for 4 games is worse or 1 game from potentially ending somebody’s football career is worse? Well in this case it’s this hit and this should’ve been at LEAST 5 games and that’s the very LEAST he should’ve gotten plus a big ole fine, so don’t tell me your stupid opinion when you don’t even know shit about the national football league and it’s tons of rules/penalties stupid fuck
MegaAbomb so you should just let them catch the ball? I mean it's good to take away serious injuries but the defense has to have a chance. It really looked like he tried pulling up before hitting the receiver
You can add Robey-Coleman of the Rams a couple of weeks ago against Lewis of the Saints. One of the most obvious targeting infractions and no official threw their flag. Robey-Coleman clearly adjusted the height of his head to make helmet-to-helmet contact and it caused Lewis to be picked up into the air and spun around. This literally cost New Orleans the game and a trip to the Super Bowl, and was the worst call in NFL playoff history.
Lots of Steeler plays in there. Of course, when James Harrison played for them, it was inevitable that a lot of unnecessary roughness calls would be made.
TrAvIsScOtT Tbh the tackler looked like he was going for the body but didn't expect the receiver to fall over. If he catches that and stays up it would have been a clean hit.
TrAvIsScOtT I don't know. If he was committed to going in early he can't really pull up. Suppose only the tackler will know if it was an intentional dirty hit or not. Nevertheless, should have been a penalty.
Ed Pen Ok but at 5:28 when the quarterback got hit, he leaned forward at the last second. Making Taylor hit him in the head on accident and he got fined and penalized.
When the hit on Adams came on second, I knew it was a VERY recent video. Since that hit happened only on the 28th. And also saw that that cheap shotter has been suspended 2 games
really? Because the Steelers had the most infractions in this video, and I'm sure there are more examples out there. Remember Carson Palmer's injury? He was never the same after
Brady Stenger Well, they're physical teams, and I feel some of them are by accidental. And when they're together, you'll end up seeing them at least once per year with a head to head contact. At least the Ravens usually only do it to the Steelers...
This just makes me miss real football. Unpopular opinion, but oh well. They are adults and know what kind of sport it is and the dangers that come with it. Some of these ARE just plain old dirty hits, but a number of them are just hard-hitting, traditional football for better or worse
Can anyone tell how is it that a football player running full speed is able to logically adjust his body to avoid helmet to helmet every single time. You can't!!!
Not every situation calls for a tackle. If a guy is coming over the middle your job is to deliver a hit that breaks it up not let him catch it and tackle him. Same goes for guys fighting for extra yards your job to deliver a hit and forcefully stop his momentum, not help tackle and let him fall forward for that extra half a yard
make them wear them leather helmets like the old times players and they wont be so reckless anymore. They have too much protection, thats what the issue is. They feel invincible.
Steve C it’s better have that protection it limits the chances of having a concussion and if you do get one while wearing a helmet it protects you’re head from having further damage
steve, yeah, that’s right, let’s make the game *more* dangerous for their brains. I will concede that you might have been using hyperbole. If not, then it’s obvious that *you* are *already* brain dead.
@Tuho I never wrote any such thing. I don’t know if you have trouble with English, or if you have an agenda, or what. Heads are always going to be hit with other heads. It’s inevitable, and happens all the time. Nobody in their right mind would advocate wearing a *more dangerous* helmet. But, that’s what the OP did.
Rowdy Jr. Dude why are you so salty over us beating you. Devante is a football player so you shouldn’t disrespect him like that. Bet you wouldn’t like it
The play at 5:14 was not intentional at all. If you watch the replay, you can see he was just barely tripped up from behind by the defenders fingertips as he was running out of bounds. Ike Taylor clearly didn't realize that he was tripped up, and there isn't enough time for him to adjust his tackling stance in the amount of time that he was tripped. If the defender that tripped him up didn't just grab his foot by his fingertips, which he did, that's a helmet to chest hit, it was not meant to be helmet to helmet, which is obviously not as devastating. Just an unfortunate situation
Wayne Storey we have the rules we have as a result the attention brought to concussions. And I have no doubt rugby will be the the next sport that's looked at.
