Great theme, plus adding Verne Lundquist took TNT’s coverage to another level. Pat Haden is good, but with Verne in the booth, he captures the moments of the game perfectly. Uncle Verne and Haden has worked together prior to their time at TNT (college football on CBS) so they already had chemistry.
Even after TNT was done broadcasting NFL games after 1997, Turner Sports kept this theme and used it for their college football coverage on TBS from 2002 through 2006.
They also used this theme when they aired the Carquest/MicronPC.com and Senior Bowls from December 1995-2000, before they moved to Orlando, as well as the Senior Bowl from 1996-2000.
Turner might be coming back to college football beginning next season as they are interested in either getting the secondary rights for the Big 12 or whatever is left of the Pac 12 (ESPN has the main package for both conferences) so this theme might be put to use again.
@@chrisguardiano6143 I hope some time CBS would partner with Turner Sports for NFL coverage, just like March Madness. Imagine how much fun watching the NFL would be if this happened, instead of being restricted to one or two games in a time slot.
Now hold up. This wasn't used on TBS College Football Saturday between 2004-06, because they used the Nickelback cover of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" for their intro and they looped the guitar riff for their bumpers. Strangely enough that the original Elton John version is the theme of the AEW Saturday Collision wrestling show on TBS's sister channel, TNT.
TNT/TBS should take over either Monday Night or Thursday Night games. I would prefer TNT/TBS taking over Thursday Night games because the old Monday Night Football will be over. But to be honest, with Mike Tirico now at NBC Sports and calling the second half of the Thursday Night games starting in October or November of this year, ESPN's NFL coverage with Sean McDonough just doesn't fit the shoe well. The best MNF team in my opinion is Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell, and Don Meredith. I also think Al Michaels, Frank Gifford, and Dan Dierdorf were a great team. And the best ESPN MNF team in my opinion, Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden. Therefore, if TNT/TBS were to get the NFL back, which I have heard is a possibility, they should get Monday Nights. To be honest, the "true" Monday Night Football is on Sunday Nights on NBC. ESPN's Monday Night Football is rather just a footnote in NFL broadcasts in the present day. But I digress...if TNT/TBS was to take over NFL broadcast rights, they should do Monday Nights, along with a Wild Card Round game, similar to what ESPN is doing now. Simulcasting the Wild Card Game will be tricky, but not impossible. Maybe TNT should take Monday Nights and TBS take Thursday Nights. But this theme HAS TO be the theme for TNT/TBS NFL coverage in the future.
Sunday Night NFL still lives on NBC as Sunday Night Football I do remember Sunday Night NFL on TNT, but I guess the reason the show didn't last long was simply b/c of too much Strong Competition against NBC, abc and CBS for Sunday Night Movies or probably b/c TNT wasn't a popular network @ the time or too much competition from USA Network Thank GOD for the NBA on TNT and NBC SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL I LOVE the theme to this Edd Kalehoff not only did the theme to Sunday Night NFL on TNT, but also for abc Monday Night Football as well as The Price is Right w/Bob Barker, the late Dennis James, Tom Kennedy, Doug Davidson and Drew Carey, West 57th, Saturday Night w/Connie Chung, 48 Hours w/Dan Rather, History IQ, The Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour, Trivia Trap, The NEW Card Sharks w/Bob Eubanks and the late Bill Rafferty, Concentration w/the late Jack Narz, TattleTales (The 70's Version) w/the late Bert Convy, Double Dare w/Marc Summers, Harvey and Robin Marella Russo, Finders Keepers w/Wesley Eure and Larry Toffler, Think Fast w/Michael Carrington and Skip Lackey, Make the Grade w/Lew Schneider and Robb Edward Morris and of course, Family Feud w/the late Richard Dawson returning to the Feud for the 1st time in 9 years
+T-Bone Hubbard I think you're totally right because during the 90s the Sunday movie showcases were still huge draws for the big 3 on the broadcast networks and FOX's Sunday lineup was high-rated too. A lot has changed since then as Desperate Housewives was the last real successful big-time show that drew over 20 million viewers since then and once that show died out Sunday Night Football has completely taken over the night since moving to NBC in the last 10 years. It's now the most watched primetime show of the week the last few years. SNF has grown so much since the early days when it was getting shared between TNT and ESPN and eventually exclusively on ESPN after the 1997 season before moving to NBC in 2006. I remember back in 2004 when the new television contracts for the NFL were being done for 2006-2013 there was a huge bid for Sunday Night Football to make it bigger and better and USA was in the mix at the time but eventually NBCUniversal kept it for NBC instead since Monday Night Football was moving to cable on ESPN away from ABC. Now 29 years later SNF is so huge now than it was back in its first season back in 1987.
Thanks for sharing, but also, abc owns ESPN and Disney owns both networks, but also, ESPN is killing the NBA, when NBC had the NBA, it was AWESOME, and even though the NFL didn't last long on TNT, Thank GOD that we still have the NBA as Charles Barkley and Company are better than ANYONE on ESPN Thank GOD for NBC bringing Sunday Night Football as they also knocked American Idol out of the #1 spot-Thank GOD and they became #1 since 2011 which was the year that Eli Manning and the New York GIANTS def. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots for a 2nd time I like listening to Al Michaels from Monday Night Football, Tony Dungy, Rodney Harrison, Bob Costas and Michele Tafoya

On February 1, 2023, the NFL will announce that Warner Bros. Discovery Sports (formerly Turner Sports) will sign a new 11-year deal to share broadcast rights to the Thursday Night Football package with Amazon Prime Video, so beginning in the 2023 NFL season, Prime Video will air the first 8 TNF games, while TNT will air the next 8 TNF games, including a game on Thanksgiving as well as a wild card playoff game on Friday nights as part of the NFL Super Wild Card Weekend.
