And it doesn't help that so much pressure is put on these young girls. Like the title of this video or being called the next Simone Biles. If I was still a gymnast and I knew I was being called the next Simone Biles, that would give me so much anxiety. On a lighter note, I love deep fried Oreos, too.

I think she had a realistic goal of going to U of G! The Olympics now only allow five gymnasts per team, so that had dashed a lot of girls' dreams!

@@KriistiiG I agree with you. I always tell parents if they are investing €10k to €25k in their children's sports, then they can save up for college! It makes no sense to be training these many girls at Olympic level when the reality is that there are about 100 schools where they can perform at NCAA level. Regarding the elite level, there are basically two junior and two senior elite teams, which perform at the qualifiers, world cup and Olympics. In the US there are over 500k girls training with about 10k at Level 8, 9, 10 and elite divisions. Aside from a Wheaties box, a few handful of national and international sponsors and a tour at the end of Olympic career, there isn't a lot of money in gymnastics. I admire this young lady's drive and determination. She is truly blessed to have an opportunity to go to the Olympics. Like you said, she needs to peak at the right time and hopefully she will not burn out before she turns 16yo to qualify for world competition, which will get her a NCAA scholarship should she win a medal.

Kids love goals and awards like that, it's extremely motivating for them. The parents also seem to have their heads on straight. the fact they even allow her to have other hobbies such as painting and cooking is telling that they understand balance. If you watch shows like dance moms and toddler's in tiaras they don't let their kids have hobbies. All free time is for more practice and perfection. I understand how it can be interpreted as pressuring a young child but some people need concrete goals and aspiration so they know what they're working towards

Wow, she must be level 9? That’s amazing at 10. She certainly will have a bright future at this rate. All I’d say is just watch that she doesn’t overtrain. Young athletes can so easily get repetitive use injuries that can scupper their plans. Look at Whitney Bjerken, everything on track and then she ended up having to take a year out, a year back, and another year out because of an overuse type of bone injury, which of course, allowed puberty to kick in and change her opportunities. But i wish Jurzie all the luck in the world, and her parents are great!

Simone made it to worlds( before her gym opened) at a gym that had barley any level 9s and no level 10s. she could quit because she has immense pressure, and her dad is sporty, it always is more important, that the child is having fun,then to push them and make them not love it 🤔

When Sophia was 13, she was dancing 8 hours everyday on week days, then on Saturday and Sunday, she'd do 14 hours a day. That's 68 hours of dance a week. It's a ridiculous amount of training, and she got burnt out. It's a new girl every year and most of the time they end up quitting because of injuries, can't handle losing, or simple dislike for the sport due to pressure. Is she a good gymnast? Sure. Does she love the sport? Sure. But videos and claims like this are toxic and put insane amounts of pressure on young gymnasts. Especially in a sport like women' gymnastics where gymnasts are physically burnt out by the time they're 14 due to overbearing coaches and parents. Gyms need to stop cranking out 12 yo elite athletes. You're setting them up for injuries, mental insecurities, and you take all of the fun out of the sport. Also, helicopter parents: Stop.

It is actually quite common for gymnasts her age and level to train 30+ hours a week. Some even do more than that. Honestly her schedule is pretty modest compared to other gymnasts her age and level. There are some girls that have 3 sessions a day 5-6 days a week. That is not including privates. @@kerrinmangan8379 Oh it’s fine I understand. On weeks when I practice 12+ hours that is enough for me as a 17 year old so I can’t imagine training 30+ hours as a 10 year old. For my future child, I don’t think I’d feel very comfortable with them having a career this young. I’d want them to have a childhood, to run and play and going to sleepovers and birthday parties and just enjoy being a kid, because you can’t get all that back. Time is precious. They can have this kind of career or any kind when they turn eighteen.

Yeah let her go to sleepovers to have her refreshments spiked so the male in the house can take advantage of her like I saw on the news Lady don't let your daughter spend the night at someone else's house she has a bed.....let her sleep in her own bed. And as for as gymnastics you can be in gymnastics and still enjoy your life as a kid okay. I read an article about a woman letting her daughter go spend the night and something bad happened to her you could probably still pull it up on Google. Plus it's all about the child if she enjoys it and she's not complaining maybe quote" she don't want to go outside and play not every kid wants to waste idle time doing nothing with their life other than going to school, watching TV, playing video games on the computer, texting on the phone, watching TV playing video games watching TV playing video games and most of them after they eat I can bet you they don't have a 10-minute exercise routine outside in the backyard. Just eat and go sit down to watch television and television and television welcome to 2021 people and this woman said that she wants her kid to play God help us all

@@treasurehunter183hunter8 now you are just fear mongering and even without the sleepovers the original point still stands that they want their kids to have a more balanced and happy childhood which will set them up for a hard working future instead of someone who is burnt out by 16

It's a tough decision to make when you have a child that is so gifted in sports. You certainly can't start gymnastics at 18 years old. I think that it's okay to make exceptions for a prodigy. However, I am worried that this child is training a bit too hard for a 10 year old. But what do I know about gymnastics? 😃

Keeping Young Athletes in the Game! That means understanding how, when, and what to train and how to recover, based on an athlete's age, training history, and injury history. No Days Off goes against long-term athlete development. What would be beneficial is if Whistle would share the long-term development of their athletes over the years. For those parents who get caught up in the more is better philosophy, it is the fastest way to breaking down a young athlete's body. There is a better way!

@EAY2211

The double pike beam dismount is quite common and its difficulty value is quite average, as it has an “E” rating. It is the Yurchenko double pike on *vault* (different apparatus) that has never been done in competition in WAG. Edit: if you’re talking about 0:04, it was only a single pike not a double. She only does one complete pike/flip when she’s mid air while Simone does two.

Incredible what she’s been able to accomplish at 10! What has determined her success is her internal drive and work ethic. Her heart is in it. There are many negative comments about the number of training hours. These hours include stretching and conditioning. It is about training smart vs the amount of time spent. USAG has developed a culture of winning at all costs. I think we as a gymnastics community will see a change over the next 10 years to eliminate the negativity long associated with our sport. Change takes time to evolve. My goal as a coach was not only to train my gymnasts to be as good as they want to be, but to see them grow up and become happy, good people. I’ve heard things out of other coaches mouths at meets I would never say to a kid (about how they have to win and this was to a level 4). The child needs to have the internal motivation to want it and we as coaches have no business putting that much pressure on them because it does backfire. Because of Covid and medical issues putting me at high risk, I have not been in the gym coaching in a year. In all likelihood, at 61, I’m done. Just judging. I don’t think people realize there aren’t even enough college scholarships to go around for Level 10s. I was fortunate enough to walk on and earn one 40 years ago!
