The Iris Nebula (also known as NGC 7023 and Caldwell 4) is a bright reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. The nebula is illuminated by a magnitude +7.4 star designated HD 200775 and it's located 1 300 light years from earth.
It was one of those nights, you get a clear night unexpectedly, but the moon is very bright, and you have very limited options. I could only image to the north and only with narrowband filters, so I thought why not gather some Ha data on the Iris Nebula. I ended up with almost 10 hours of usable Ha data and started to think about how to blend that in with my existing LGRB data.
Data for this image: 113x300s Ha, 18x120s + 31x300s L, 20x120s + 11x300s R, 18x200s + 10x300s G, 24x120s + 10x300s B. Total number of exposures 255 with a total integration time of 17.2 hours.
Processing: PixInsight with LHaGB palette with RGB stars. Data for this image was gathered from 2023 and 2024.

Such a gorgeous target. I wish i could get some nice exposure myself on it. But this winter has just been grey and overcast. Any astrophotographers Nightmare. 😳

Thank you for watching! Yes, it is a very bad season so far here also. I hope to get some hours before it's over.

This one is inspiring for me in Bortle 9. Thinking of using Ha as L instead :)

Hi Mårten, Interesting. I never thought about processing the red channel that way. With that being said, I was thinking, why not shoot this nebula in Ha-G-O3? I might give that a try. Just a thought. Okay, just how much snow do you get each year? Wow! Great final image. Clear skies - Patrick -

Thank you so much! I just took a chance on the HA since the moon was up and it paid off. As for snow, I guess it varies from year to year, but at least maybe 1 meter per season.
