The season is slowly coming to and end here at 63 degrees north due to the fact that the sun will be too bright even in the middle of the night. I’m collecting data on several projects, and I’ve been wanting to do some broadband imaging. The Iris Nebula is a very good target since it’s located due north and visible most of the night, even though it’s a bit low on the horizon.
The Iris Nebula, NGC 7023 or Caldwell 4 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. It is named after the plant genus Iris, which consists of more than 300 species. While many nebulae visible in the night sky are emission nebulae (clouds of dust and gas hot enough to emit their own radiation), the Iris Nebula is a reflection nebula (the color comes from the scattered light of nearby stars).
Data for this image: 18x120s + 30x300s L, 20x120s + 11x300s R, 18x200s + 10x300s G, 24x120s + 10x300s B. Total number of exposures 141 with a total integration time of 7.7 hours.
Processing: PixInsight with LRGB palette with LRGB stars.

I am relatively new to this hobby still. I stumbled upon your channel because of your observatory build series, wich is absolutely awesome. The Iris Nebula is my favourite Nebula. But what you have done with it is just insanely beautiful. The best i have seen of this gorgeous target. I can't wait for winter to arrive here in Denmark, so i can shoot my favourite targets and use some of your Techniques. Sub and likes from me. Keep the videos coming. The Quality is great. And Scandinavia is made for Astro. ❤

Hello Marten, Thank you very much for your very informative video and I congratulate you on your great Iris Nebular result. I am very impressed. I won't be able to do that with my One Shot color Cam ;-(

Thank you so much! It's all about time, you can get similiar resulta with OSC, but you need more time.

I puled this one only from Bortle 1. I cranked 13h integration. Dark nebula turned into yellow- light brown. Blue Iris was over exposed, but I knew that I will pay price. Need to learn how to get high dynamic range images.

Yes, it's tricky and I will have to do the same next time :)

@@frosthastrophotography Are you going to produce video on acquiring and processing high dynamic range imaging? A lot of people will like to watch it (including me). There are 2-3 approaches. Thus, I don’t know which one to select. Probably, I should eventually try all of them.

@@anata5127 I might do that. I've done orion nebula before, but not with mono. I will add that to the list!
