I know this is an old video but you did not do the Byfuglien hit on Stone justice. The full ice angle that shows how fast Stone was skating and how hard the collision was
MAD respect that not every clip was a hit that seriously injured someone. Sometimes a big hit has someone go up and over, not break their skull in seventeen pieces. Mad respect
What transpired after the hit at 5:45 was dangerous as hell. The guy was out cold on his back, and everyone’s skates are flying right near his face and head...Jesus Christ, he’s lucky he didn’t get more injured as he lay there unconscious.
0:40 Denis Hamel stands as the best player in modern Binghamton hockey history when he played for the Senators. We were wowed by that hit on his rare call-up. Best of all, he laughed it off!
The problem I have with hits like these today is that now I know too much. Itt's not like NHL 06 where they get "injured" and just heal and come back. Sauer never played another shift, many others also suffered concussions which could have long term consequences. I'm not criticizing the video and tbf most of the hits, even by today's standards are "clean" hits. I'm just kinda lamenting how I can't really enjoy many of these as much as I used to.
This video came up in my recommended and I wondered why, I watch hockey but I've never watched any on youtube, then I went to the comments and it's probably because the best pokemon youtuber commented on it. The crazy stupid ways of the youtube algorithm. Love your vids and sadly agree with your point for the most part man, same goes for me and watching any hockey/ NFL big hits compilation these days sadly.
@@allthingshockey9688 They actually didn't know imo. I surely didn't. Everyone thought brain injuries just heal like any other, it wasn't until players started aging that we could see how bad things got. Don't forget guys like Stevens are way bigger and stronger than Lindsay or Howe, for example.
I haven't watched hockey in about 10 years. Haven't followed it closely in about 15. I still like vids like this. The biggest hitters than I can recall are Stevens, Kronwell, Byfuglien, and Pronger. I forgot how much of hitter Rob Blake was. Phanuf laid some guys out too. All in all a real good video. Thanks for putting it together.
Exelby knocking over Av's like they were dominoes :) 11:40 Also a shout out for Robinson. The way he knocked people into another dimension while looking so casual. It's just a job.
@@SonicSlicer I don't understand why getting penalty minutes is a good thing, isn't playing shorthanded, or without a specific player bad? If it's a player who's important to the team, then you should want them to be on the ice, and not in the penalty box.
my first thought was whether Cleary was ok cause it looked like he hit his head pretty hard, but yeah I guess people getting hurt is super funny, especially since when Cleary was getting up holding his head, Pronger tried to knock him over again. He seems like a super nice guy.
People who know hockey already know this, but it’s the most demanding and exhilarating sport of all time. Some people get turned off cause they can’t “follow the puck” but neither can the players half the time. That’s the nature of the sport. It’s brutal and amazing. I wish more people appreciated this sport. To me, it can’t be matched.
There's nothing like Campbell's massive hit on Umberger. God damn I remember seeing that live on tv and that is one of the best Sabres moments in the last 20 years and you can ask any Sabres fan. :) RJ's call on that hit too was so electric and that building was buzzing. Great clean, well timed hit.
That hit litterally traumatised Umberger for a whole year on his rookie season. Am I the only one who thinks injuring another player shouldnt be an intense moment in the game, as clean as the hit is.
I literally cant stop watching it, seeing one of my favorite players completely destroying a player I hate, playing for my least favorite team in the league is great.
Great hit on a player half his size, who got right up after. My favorite was PK whining about Thornton squirting him with a water bottle “I could have gotten hurt with water on my visor”
@@bcal4877 bro, marchand is a bully, seeing someone like him get completely nailed, and skate to the bench with that expression is amazing. I dont really care about pk whining about getting squirted with water, its just great to see an asshole like marchand for once get what he deserves.
The Stevens/Kariya hit is a full story and epic. The hit. The camera on Kariya as he regains consciousness fogging up his visor. Kariya on his next shift scoring a goal. AND.... all of this in the Stanley Cup finals. Glorious
Crazy thing is Paul doesn't even remember scoring that goal or any part of the rest of that game. I watched it live as a Devils fan and I thought Steven's killed him.
@@petepethesjr3422 Anyone that watched that game live thought that. I'm not surprised about him having no memory, getting hit like that puts the mental video recorder on pause. It starts recording again, but everyone is different on how long before it starts
90s were a different time man. Playing as a kid and through high school at that time, a lot of it was about maximizing violence. If a head got in the way of our hit, that was a huge bonus. It really wasn't questioned, and from the pros on down to us, you can see it was woven into the fabric in that era.
That’s one thing about RU-vidrs I hate “before I show you the thing you came here for, I’ll take you back to 1700s when my great great great grandparents came to America and drag it out as long as I can 🤓”
@@MulliComMediathat has nothing of relevance to what he just said. Marchand is a hated player, it makes people happy seeing him get destroyed. You probably are just a Marchand fanboy 😂
Man, Vladimir Konstantinov was a beast, that car wreck was a damn shame, it cut his career way too short, but at least he got to see a couple more Cup wins by the wings
Man, that was rough, eh? I still remember that like it was yesterday. So epic that they insta-won the next cup, though. It was bitter-sweet to see him with the cup in a wheelchair.
This was the hockey i grew up watching. Keep your head up or get layed out. i remember as a kid watching a Wings game and getting crazy everytime Kronwall layed someone out. We want real in your face hockey. No more BS.
Everyone is talking about Marklund at 5:58, but lets not forget Grönlund. He was right in there too with the sole intention of protecting his team mate. Kudos to both of them, face up and unconscious in a brawl is dangerous.
Scott Stevens was a freight train on the ice, I honestly believe that he LOVED hurting other players... some of his hits were "clean", other hits were purely "predatory", but every one was calculated for maximum damage..... considering the number of crushing hits he laid out it's a wonder he wasn't in more than the 101 fights he was in his career!
Yeah, but to be honest, if you have seen stevens in his devils uniform, looking mad at you, just whiping the blood of your teammate of his face.... I probably chicken out on this one as well. XDXDXDXDXD
Ironically with Stevens… he gave a lot of players concussions whether they knew it or not… but his career ended with him not being able to come back due to himself having so many concussions.
Stevens was a great player, too bad he was also a POS. He could have played a tough, CLEAN game like Larry Robinson did - but he CHOSE not to. And that's the reason Stevens is a POS.
I remember watching it baked out of my mind and laughing hysterically even tho Kapanen was one of my favorite players of the era (although I feel bad now knowing his brain was scrambled and it could cause life-long problems). Didn't work out so well for the Leafs: Kapanen made it to the bench to prevent a stoppage in play, and Roenick scored on a rush to end the series 45 seconds later.
Stevens was always good at masking his dirty hits but he used his elbow and his shoulder to hit chins and always targeted big stars. Everyone knew what he was doing except the refs.
Lindros center ice head looking at his own feet while carrying the Puck. Yeah Hockey. Taking OUT Karia a FAT 3 sec after he passed the Puck. Not Clean.
I decided to play nhl 22 and I knew nothing about hockey. I was playing the game and was like "damn. This sport is dangerous asf" and I looked up videos and I have a new respect for hockey players. I'm genuinely shocked how vicious this game can be.
The answer to your 2 mid-video questions: 1) 5m Major for Elbowing. Not clean - leading with elbow, angles body to make it look like shoulder. But still to the head. 2) 5m Major and Game Misconduct. Kariya released puck and looking away at the play he created. Not a dog in the fight but Kariya getting back in that game and just DESTROYING a slap shot laser beam past Brodeur is one of the all time epic comeback plays from someone leaving the ice. And I like the NJD’s.
2:28 most intense nhl hit ever in my opinion, plus Canucks captain Trevor linden with the thunderous hit my fav team lol, look at the fans in the front row hut the with the glass. That would be an honour. they’ll never forget that’ hit in their lives man
@@samuelmorris889 While Kronwall laid the wood on people, Stevens knocked you out. Kariya, Lindros, Kozlov, etc., will tell you that they'er lucky to be alive. Kronwall is a clean hard hitter. Stevens, I debate that to be the case.
Saying with respect, but it's a different game now. A lot softer. Most of these clips were from the 90s or early 2000s. A few from earlier or later, but the majority were in those years.
1:24 I was at that game and that Sarich hit on Marleau was crazy! the Flames were down 3-0 with no life in them until Sarich laid that hit which sparked up the team and the flames got a comeback and won 4-3
That Brown hit on Sedin was epic! Rob Blake back in the day was an animal with them hits. Devastating. Both Stevens hits were elbows straight to the head.
1:51 is that a reference to Urien from Street Fighter 3? He has a distinct charge-tackle move and utters the word "crush","kill" and "destroy" during his attacks!
@@MikeHawkburns21 i don't think it's a stupid suggestion. Just one that requires a lot of research. Lot of history to go through for some of these teams.
@@DJ_Mooster Our coach growing up used to have us practice what he called “The Chop ‘n’ Block” based off what Stevens would do. Have one Defenseman slow up to close the gap on the forward, and have the other guy attack from the blindside. Effective? Absolutely. Dirty? Only if you start throwing elbows (which he was kinda notorious for.)
@@LateNightTableCo Stevens didn't throw elbows. Stevens would level star players that weren't used to getting hit and everyone would cry foul cuz how dare anyone lay a body check on the likes of Paul Kariya or Eric Lindros or Ron Francis. When Stevens was on the ice, everyone paid the price for having your head down no matter who you were.
At the time both of Scott Steven’s hits were good hard clean hits. The hit on Kariya was a touch on the late side, but both guys were skating through the middle with their heads down. In today’s game these hits wouldn’t be allowed, but for the time they were still good hits
This is exactly right, far too many people saying they are dirty hits, not by the standard of the time. Different now, still love watching Steven's put people to sleep
@@chiefscheider yeah we know you feel differently, you’ve mentioned it several times before on this montage. Facts are facts it was a clean hit and Paul was stupid for keeping his head down with the Career Killer on the ice
