from a certain point of view, it was extremely stupid as it clearly wasn't interference... but you have to take into account time in which he did it: his team was being absolutely shelled and hadn't left their own zone in a long time... they were rattled, and they were taking stupid penalties. they needed a break to calm down, and an attempt to halt the momentum, which was entirely in the leaf's hands. rather than take a 30 second timeout, they decided to challenge and got a 4 minute timeout instead. it may have given them a penalty, but it successfully gave them breathing room to get back in it, whilst temporarily halting the relentless onslaught poured on them by the leafs. in that view, it makes perfect sense why they did it.
@@derps8690 no... you burn your timeout if you need a break, you don’t gamble on it being a super long challenge and risk going down a man for another two minutes. That was nuts.
@@derps8690 Facepalm. Challenging a obvious goal for a temporary break wouldn't shift the momentum, especially if you're aware that you need to kill a two minute penalty afterwards. Montreal should've just called a time out to recuperate their players, and cultivate a new strategy, without the risk of being down 4-1, heading into the third period. It was a stupid call, no matter how you look at it. Edit: You've liked your own comment again. Lol
@@Thorin7 clearly it does change momentum, because it did. the habs were able to exit their own zone and rest their top pk line, which had been getting absolutely clobbered in their own end. the leafs had full momentum after the goal, but were forced to stop due to the challenge. the habs actually began to get back into the game because of it... they managed to hold it off and survive the rest of the period... it wasn't until weber took that stupid penalty that basically sealed the deal for the habs, since the leafs went on to score. they took a risk, and it would've worked out well if their captain wasn't a moron.
@@GuitarBeard even if the review didn't take long, it still would've taken 2 minutes at least... more than a regular time-out. gave them a chance to recuperate.
When the leafs are on their game and not traumatized by seeing their best friend get almost paralyzed they’re the far better team and it’s not close. Prayers up for JT, this ones for you❤️
@@alexandreducharme4811 what’re you talking about? Everything that was called was a legit penalty? Or are you saying high cross checks and breaking a stick on the back of another player is totally within the rule book?
@@noahlehman8867 what about the boarding by hyman or the interference on armia after he won the puck and was in the slot. or when gallagher got hit in the face before his penalty
Great win Leafs. When the Raptors won the NBA championship, we also lost game 1 in round 1 and everyone was freaking out. Then the Raptors slowly turned it up and took out the Magic in 5. Leafs will do the same. We The North!

Not a fan of either team, but I'm cheering for Jason Spezza. Plus this is payback for when Leafs fans were all cheering for the Sens vs Montreal in the playoffs a few years ago. 😎
When you pay 10 million for a has been goalie, and you have washed up players in the lineup, and your gm is a idiot making ridiculous decisions from the press box to contest a clear goal . @@mitchel7477 they'll probably complain it's an English Canada conspiracy. The Leafs fanbase are known for being annoying, but the Canadiens fanbase is absolutely toxic. The only reason people don't notice is because they speak French.
@Murphy Habs one of those was with 30 seconds left, and another was that brutal review. Yes the leafs should’ve had a couple more but the habs penalties were deserved.
Simmonds. Not Simmons. Maybe you're thinking of that dough head Steve Simmons. Simmonds and Thornton have had very limited effectiveness all season. Simmonds takes the body, but that's about it. Thornton just tries to get rid of the puck as fast as he can. At least he didn't embarrass himself tonight. Spezza still has gas left in the tank. They're going to have to keep playing like they did to beat Montreal, and hopefully, if they make it to the next round, JT will be back. The guy took way too much undeserved heat. He's a solid player in all aspects of the game. He and Matthews have complete skills sets.
The second the puck dropped tonight, I wasn't confident that the Canadiens were going to win. I had a feeling the Toronto Maple Leafs were going to bounce back and I was right. Good game Maple Leafs.
With JT out Spezza stepped up as expected, he is now a BIG key to the Leafs playoff hopes. Price looked awful on the Nylander goal. Campbell had 2 great stops before the 3rd shot went in on his only GA.
They figured out Price. Like I said put bodies infront and make his life hell like they did tonight. The score should’ve been 9-1 if it wasn’t for Price.
@@plasma8967 his rebound control was non existent he let in what should have been an easy save on the Spezza’s non screened shot and he was out of position repeatedly.
I like the leafs change in play. Just taking little shots from all angles then rushing the net for the quick rebounds. That’s because they know that price most likely will make the first save.
Leafs totally out hustled... Out played.. Out skated.. Out classed... And put performed the Habs. .. Text boom win for the leafs well done... You gotta do it for Johnny man.. Gotta do it for Johnny.... ☺
1. Everyone blames the refs 2. Why are you talking about ethnics? 3. And why is everyone jealous of Quebec? Hydroelectricity, cheap hospitals, etc. The ROC is just dumb, filled with money because of oil.
@@bullymaguire7266 I don’t think anyone blamed the refs last game.. leafs took too many penalties.. avoidable ones.. although did a good job killing them off. Heads were fairly out of the game after that scary hit. Did a spectacular job bouncing back from that mindset in tonight’s game
@@bullymaguire7266 You’ve got a weird way of saying “high crosscheck” but yeah...it was a push. The hit from Engavall was also clean due to the player having the puck.
Монреаль бьётся более, чем достойно. Учитывая текущее состояние команды, силу Торонто. Он уже совершил сенсацию, взяв первкю игру. И, кто знает, что Монреаль ещё может совершить..
Although I already knew what all the comments were going to be about, I have an honest question for all the Habs fans blaming the Refs. Which one of your penalties were undeserved? I'll wait...
Valid question but also what plays should the leafs have had a penalty and not called? It happens in all games of course but it seemed extra obvious in this one. How about simmonds late game two hand slash to chiarot leg?
@@10Timewaster You are correct. There were two specific plays that the Leafs should of got a penalty. Hyman's hit on KK and Simmonds slash. However, if you are going to play that game, the Canadiens also had a lot of infractions not called. It happens. The Leafs were the team with the puck the majority of the game, minus the first 15 minutes of the first period. It's not uncommon that penalties tend to pile up against the team that is chasing the game.
@@xXxRawkFistxXx Exactly. It’s also funny people complaining about the penalties considering the leafs power play performance has been atrocious anyways. It wasn’t the penalties that hindered the Habs. The Leafs dominated this game regardless.
I'm a habs fan and I have nothing to say about refs, Toronto was a better team last night that's it. I'm still happy we managed to win 1 game out of 2 at Toronto
apparently the 6 penalties they missed on the Leafs, well if two or three of the habs penalties in the 2nd are penalties than the Leafs should've been in the box at least 4-5 times with there more dirty play in the 2nd.
Leafs fan here. So now the series is tied. As much as I would love for this series to be over with a Leafs 4-1 series victory I feel certain this will go 7 games and Montreal will not be easy to beat at all. The game was closer than the score would indicate. Take away the power plays and of course the empty netter and we have a 2-1 game where anything can happen. The Habs only had 1 PP. Toronto could have easily won Game #1 and Montreal could have won game #2 had the PP issue gone the other way. I hope the Leafs do not take the Habs lightly. They will come out flying in game #3 after this.
Did we watch the same game? The leafs had soooo many scoring chances in game 2. I don’t remember any of Montreal’s. Did Josh Anderson even play last night? Toronto should be up 2 nothing & heading towards a sweep
The refs literally let Montreal get away with so much before making calls. I wouldn't complain about officiating if I were you. Don't like penalties? Don't play so aggressive lol Yeah, the leafs had missed calls too. That's playoff hockey. It doesn't matter though because Montreal had even more missed called. It's roughly 50/50 I'd say
I hate to complain about officials but there should have been more call on the leafs too. Those 50/50 calls were only called on one side. That assist on Spezza ... The refs are neutral and part of the game but they shouldn't have that much of an impact on a NHL game. I wont deny MTL have bad habits with penalties though. 1-1 now cant wait for the next game. Be gentle leafs fans lol
The Habs are a dirty team. Usually the referees let them carry out late hits, cross checks, slashes, etc. because they commit so many infractions that otherwise they’d be a man or two short for the entire game. Oh, I forgot to menhirs from behind.
@@GFY_FS what I meant by my comment was to say when the leafs feel they are being unfairly called for penalties for the fans to remember their comments from last nights game. Delay of game penalty puck over the glass is always going to get called. However, when 1 team gets phantom calls or retaliation calls from the opposing team starting it, theres obviously going to be complaining. Nature of the beast
The reason Montreal lost....very simple. Toronto coaching figured out Montreal's winning strategy employed in game one and shut that down. Coach LuckyCharm is out of his league made no adjustments...period to period. I expect the same result on Monday for Toronto. Montreal needs to hire a coach who has a clue for next season.
I know the leafs power play was not scoring for a long stretch, but almost every power play they had they came close to scoring. If your power play is not scoring but is still playing well, it is but a matter of time before the flood gates will open.
@@saucylittlenumber3575😅 2004 since leafs haven't past the 1st round, i really wanted the leafs to win so we can get rid of brgvin so i can cheer for my team again. It was funny to watch Steve's reaction. Dang it❗👀
game one, habs played much better than leafs, leafs couldnt convert on oppurtunities and an amazing goal from byron. but DO NOT blame this win for the leafs on the refs habs fans, it just makes you look desperate and pathetic
gotta love when fans of a dirty team whine about reffing. it must suck when you get called for cheap shots and dirty hits. anderson charges on every hit. weber and charito take cheap shots all the time. and all the other habs play dirty cuz they know they are not as talented as the leafs.
For Jt I'm sure.... but the Canadians took their loss like a man.... Didn't go head hunting, like another game I just watched..... Hope kuch is ok......

The refs were biased af towards Toronto Toronto was getting away with boarding slashing hooking and interference Montreal was getting called for non penalties except for the cross check by kotkaniemi and the failed coaches challenge
I will agree that penalties were missed on both sides, but after Toronto got the 2nd powerplay I was expecting Toronto to get the following penalty. Saying that I am expecting (but not hoping) that Toronto will get a load of penalties
When the Leafs are on all cylinders, they are a very hard to beat. I got to say, I didn't think Campbell was going to be the answer, but I'm so glad I was wrong. He's been a wall.
Habs vs Refs. Not saying they were completely responsible for the turnout of the game, but you can’t be THAT biased when officiating an NHL playoff game
@@maydanlex only two of those penalties were deserved, the one on kk and on weber, (obviously not counting the delay of game penalty, that was a bad call by ducharme ill admit) the one on gallagher was also fine, but the refs had to take out the other guy also who got his glove in his face as well, kk getting hit from behind is apparently legal i guess, armia almost had a breakaway but was interfered with, i think it was engvall or simmonds who gave a huge slash after the whistle on kk in the second, and many other times where the refs didn't call a penalty on the leafs whden they should have.
@@phils6733 like i said, im not saying the refs caused the habs to lose, the leafs deserved that win, but im really hoping that from here on out, they can AT LEAST call the play on kk getting hit from behind. that was the biggest non call of the game. there were many other times as well where the refs were not calling stuff against toronto. the penalties were also deserved, but the one that gallagher took should have taken the other guy also, got his glove in gallaghers face
