I'm a Wings fan. Went to a Hawks vs. Wings game AT Chicago in 2008. This was before Chicago string of cups this decade. The Hawks fans would chant "Detroit sucks" and we would respond with "We win cups!" Fun times
@@benjaminbeck6378 LMFAO aww was that really supposed to be a "comeback" bringing up some dusty old cups that you probably weren't even alive to see most of gtfoh. Comment again when you have a actually real argument that's pathetic gtfoh. Guess what the hockey world isn't thinking about your cups your known as the bottom of the basement. So you can keep living in the past.
@@christianstokes1468 Original 6 era: DET 7 cups CHI 3 cups After Original 6 era: DET 4 cups CHI 3cups. Overall: 11-6 Detroit. Stats dont lie. Wings>Hawks. I mean, i respect the hawks, but the wings have a better franchise with better history.
I saw the Blackhawks play the Rangers at the Stadium in 1969. Later I saw Gordie Howe and Bobbie Hull when they were playing in the WHA. The Aeroes had a ongoing rumble with the Fighting Saints, there were lots of fights but nobody messed around with Gordie.
This was back when the Red Wings were in the Western Confrence. Rivalry kind of died down like Vancouver and Chicago. Now the Leafs and Wings rivalry has sparked again.
Red Wings aren’t big fans of the lightning either. I think that might be the next big rivalry once the Red Wings get better because I believe Tampa Bay will remain contenders for a long while. They got smacked by them in their last two playoff appearances and I think my boy Larkin’s gonna have that on his mind once the Wings become contenders again.
Fredo H that first series in 2015 hurts when Detroit had a 3-2 series lead heading into game 6 at home and they pissed there chance away and I believe they could have met Chicago in the final
I went to the Detroit Chicago game on March 6th this year. I could feel the tension. When they cheered they didn't say lets go hawks they said Detroit sucks. It is a clear rivalry. Go Hawks!!!!
Christian Stokes learn how to spell irrelevant and after 25 years of dominance I’m pretty fine with taking the back seat for a little bit. Nobody respects the red wings? 😂😂 Red Wing are a top 3 most popular team in the NHL even when they’re garbage. lmaoooo sit the fuck down buddy
Also the Hawks had a good run but its looking more and more like their gonna be in the basement in a few years. Enjoy it while it lasts cause it may already be over for your Hawks 😬
@@fredoh7553 this aged well cuz the wings have been dead last in the league these last couple of seasons...funny how they weren't top 3 in the league like you say STFU. Too bad you're run ended long over a decade ago. Ya 🤡. It's looking more and more like you guys aren't going to do much of shit for awhile. .
@@fredoh7553 your only half way there. LOL, is my new slogan for the crackhawks. prior tot he 2010s just like the fuckin Rangers. theres non-original six teams with more cups than you hehahahaha
Jiltedin2007 well no because back when they were in the west they had to go through California and western Canada twice but only played teams like Pittsburgh philly Boston once a season
This is by far the second best O6 rivalry behind the Bruins-Canadiens rivalry. But I enjoy this one wayyy more because as a Rangers fan, both these teams are wayy more likable and I have a ton of respect and admiration for both. I hope the Wings end up back in the Central so we can have this again :)
The salary cap 1st killed Det. Chicago got Hossa because of it. That was a huge flip. Later on, the cap killed Chicago. You can't keep all that talent anymore:(
There was never a hit from behind on Nyquist that lead to the GWG. I actually had to go look to see what in the world you were talking about and all I could find was this hit that was shoulder to shoulder. Which is never going to be called. i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u602/kartkid024/view1_zps11ac38bf.png
That 2009 Conference Finals Series was a lot closer then people think. Yes Detroit was better clearly and they beat the Hawks in 5 games, but 3 of the 5 went to overtime and the Hawks won 1. If the Hawks won all the overtime games were looking at a whole different story and it would truly start the decline of the Red Wings. The Penguins would have won in the final I have no doubt about that but these scenarios make you think. This was the first season I started watching hockey, I was 4 so it was a good time and that series truly gave me hate towards the Red Wings and in my 4 years old perfect world at the time, I just didn't know how good they were. Yes I am a Hawks fan if that is not clear. Chicago also got Hossa the next year when they won in 2010 which was another turning point.
I honestly knew the hawks would be a serious threat after that series. The only blowouts were games 1 and 4 and game 1 was close until the third period. I saw how good the Hawks played against the model franchise wings at the time and I knew they were only goin up from there. I just wish they met in the playoffs more than just once in the next few years the wings had in the west.
Guy below are you kidding me? Detroit is definitely a Chicago rivalry. It simmered down for awhile and now that DET is outta the central division its pretty much over but that was a strong rivalry for a long time. How could you even say as Wild is to Chicago that is just crazy and stupid it makes me laugh
Did anyone notice that at 0:08 the ticket said western conference finals may 29th 2013. That was actually the second round of the playoffs idk who made the video and didn’t realize that
I just finished watching the Boston vs Montreal episode of this series and I'm confused about one thing. The narrator said Boston and Montreal have played each other more than any other two teams, but in this episode the narrator says that Detroit and Chicago have played each other more 🤔🗯 umm how can that be??
The narrator said Detroit and Chicago faced off in more regular seasons games than any other 2 franchises; Boston and Montreal faced each other more times (regular season and playoffs) than any other 2 franchises
I’m an Avs fan, if I see a Redwings story about a rivalry….I won’t waste my time watching if the other team isn’t the Avalanche. Hell, there’s never been a rivalry in any sport, with any teams, as good as that one.
The Red Wings belong in the Western Conference they have no business being in the East. NHL can revive this rivalry by simply moving Detroit back to the Western Conference. Move Nashville to the Atlantic and put Detroit in the Central.
You' re wrong, It's one of the biggest, historical and intense rivalry but like Montreal / Boston It's not so intense these days. Det/Col sure was a huge one but only for few years.
I guess yeah in the days of the Original Six, this was a marquee match up, but to me the crux of rivalry will always rest in the intensity. And that's why I stand firm with my comment. But don't get me wrong, with players like Red Kelly and Stan Mikita (respectively) the rivalry will always be legendary. But given the lack of intensity and the importance to the eyes of the players. Its just no longer as important as it used to be. But I agree with your comment.
+Luis De Jesus The way you define rivalries means all rivalries are basically dead in modern sports. And if you think the Wild is the big rival, you obviously know nothing about NHL rivalries. I would rank the Blues above the Wild at this point, although Minnesota is catching up.
Again I understand the historical perspective, but given the factors of the new divisions and scheduling. Theres new heat and new meaning, fact of the matter. Look I love watching the Avs and the Wings. But with both teams in separate divisions, will it ever be rekindled?
+Luis De Jesus From your point of view we woldn't need the World Cup or the OG because there is no intensity there because national teams don't meet that often. Rivarly don't have bonderies or borders and the intensity is always lurking in the back i.e Russia vs Canada, Canada vs USA and Sweden vs Finland. If a rivalries was once made they are very hard to brake.
