Hello viewer! Today we're looking at how Niagara Particles in Unreal Engine interact and interface with Materials. This is LITERALLY the most important knowledge to have when creating particle systems. Enjoy the video!

thank you for doing these tutorials, they have helped me out a great deal, not just with how to do certain things but also as a source of inspiration.

Awesome work explaining all this stuff as I learn Unreal from a motion designer’s POV. A lot of this came to me from using Trapcode Particular in After Effects, but you brought me to the next level in Niagara! Thanks!

These are great, except that you've skipped out on a few nodes here and there when you cut your video. What is connected to the specular node?? What node are you using to choose the blue color from the very beginning? For people starting out it's a bit hard when you only explain half of what you're actually selecting or including after edits.

Great Tutorial. Is there a way to render particles under a translucent material...like bubbles in water?
@PrismaticaDev
@PrismaticaDev 4 дня назад
Great question - you could try messing around with Translucency Sort Order (maybe setting the water to +10000 if you can't do it directly o the particle system) although it might look like they're in FRONT of the water. You could also try the SingleLayerWater material type (check my video on the topic) and see if it renders translucent particles beneath it. The last option would be to use Dithering with a Masked material

Hey, I was wondering if you are going to make a video about the new niagara fluids? I am struggling to change the look of the water renderer. Would love a video about that! :)

when I add the dither it dithers for the whole lifespan of the particle, not just when colour opacity is reduced. Any ideas why?

Where do you get the Noise texture? Or did you make it yourself?
@PrismaticaDev
@PrismaticaDev 11 месяцев назад
You can find a few in the Engine Content, or you can use the Noise node as well (which I have a video about)

Is there a difference between the Particle Speed Input Data node and creating the Speed variable in a Niagara Module and using it through a Dynamic Parameter?
@PrismaticaDev
@PrismaticaDev Год назад
Nope - I'd say the Speed data node is cheaper. However, you could do some math/use a curve very easily if sending it through the Dynamic Parameter

Question: Hello, how I we make particles stick to dynamic characters and the environment? Something like snow. I love all your videos. Thank you.
@PrismaticaDev
@PrismaticaDev Год назад
Heyo! You can sort of do it with Collision, using CPU or GPU particles (traces and distance fields respectively) however it isn't really viable to keep millions of particles alive for too long. I would go with a material effects for the snow coverage etc, and supplement it with the particles
