Use some bar soap on the drill bit. It helps to control bit from plugging up.

I'm running into a lot of the same issues that you did while LS swapping my 39. I hated the slop in the 39's steering and the long tubes hit the gearbox. Good video!

Is there any way you can get a list of part you used to make the bracket to hold the steering shaft?

Maybe i missed it but what year shadow rack are you using?

Should I try to find a vehicle with a similar track width? Cause I’m gonna do a rack and pinion conversion for my 64 barracuda and it’s gonna be in front of the k member and I was thinking of either using a Omni rack or a 2000s Dakota rack

I see that's a power assisted rack, are you going to run a ps pump on the engine? If so what's the plan for lines? Edit: that mount you built looks bulletproof. It's begging for some dimple dye speed holes. It would help with your weight issue while maintaining most of the strength.

Yes it will get power steering probably with a mix hard line and Teflon lined braided stainless hose with AN fittings. This mount and many of the other mounts/brackets will most likely get speed holes at some point. I want to keep the material there for now incase I need to build of if it.

The control arms can be boxed with 11ga steel

It will most likely be getting tubular control arms.

I am looking at installing this rack on my Mitsubishi Mighty Max.. Do you know what PSI this rack requires and did you have to install any check valves to get it to function properly?
@RacingRejects
@RacingRejects 4 года назад
I’m not sure of the proper pressure off hand but I doubt the stock mighty max pump would be too much. I will be running a Grand Cherokee pump that bolts to the Hemi so I will be running a adjustable valve to dial in the pressure.

What rack are you used in video?

I'm surprised anyone is still making cars/trucks with this 200 year old technology....it even outdates motorized vehicles...especially on sport cars...seeing this rack n pinion swap makes me want to swap out the steering junk in my rx7 with a manual rack n pinion setup...

I am enjoying your build and wish you posted more often, but I have a few questions. 1) Am I wrong thinking your rack length (at the inner TRE joints), should be the same length as was between your steering box and idler arm?? 2) Rather than buying tubular LCAs, why not box what you have?
@RacingRejects

Thanks, I wish I could post more often too, but I have a lot of irons in the fire right now so I post as often as I can. For the bump steer geometry to be close to stock, the inner pivots of the tire rods need to be in the same location on the rack and on the drag link. In other words, it’s not the location of the pitman/idler arms but the distance between the inner tie rod ends that needs to be duplicated. Some cars have a fair amount of bump steer from the factory so that distance may not be optimal in stock form, like if a manufacturer decided to use the same drag link for several different sized cars to save money. We may do a video on bump steer once we learn more and dial in the geometry on this car. I want to make tubular control arms so that I can use a rod end at the inner pivot for adjustability. I’ll also use a stronger, adjustable, and rebuildable screw in ball joint on the other end. In addition to adjustability, it will most likely be stronger, and possibly lighter, than a boxed factory LCA.

@@RacingRejects I look forward to both!! Thanks for the quick reply. I love everything to do with cars and LOVE to watch others fabricate. No two people have the exact same ideas or ways to accomplish something and sometime I am ammmmmazzzzzzed at what peeps build....

Great stuff. You've got a lot of technical knowledge, especially around suspension and vehicle setup. What's your background? My only criticism, is the varying audio levels. Because you are several feet away from the stationary camera, most of the time you are difficult to hear. But when you add music, or have camera right next to you, I suddenly have to turn it down!!! No biggy, just a comment.

Mostly self taught on suspension, lots of reading books and internet articles. I do the best I can with the audio but for some reason it doesn’t translate well from iMovie to RU-vid.
