I am in Stockholm as a 'nurse' who keeps a friend from insanity due to workaholism. She's 10 years older than I and yesterday she introduced me to Nick Drake. Haven't heard of him before. Now I'm obsessed.
This is a beautiful version. Nick Drakes was way ahead of his time and audience. There is a certain sophistication and expression of the soul, very rarely expressed through the song form, that he managed to do through his talent. One can hear his soul, yearning and searching for a better day. No longer trapped by the physical flesh. I feel sure his beautiful soul is flying beyond the clouds. Rest in peace and God bless you Nick. drake.🙏❤️🎼.x
Love the songs of Nick Drake . And wished he woukd have stayed a little bit longer ... and that he had had someone to hold him here. Down on earth. WITH ALL HIS TALENT AND DREAMS. 🌱🌷🌳
When I look at images and listen to Nick Drake, I literally feel something in my heart, and it sometimes overwhelms me to the point that I have to stop. 🙏💚
When the day is done Down to earth then sinks the sun Along with everything that was lost and won When the day is done When the day is done Hope so much your race would be all run Then you find you jumped the gun Have to go back where you begun When the day is done When the night is cold Some get by some grow old Just to show life's not made of gold When the night is cold When the night is cold Weren’t you ever told It’s the time when fear is bought and sold When the night is cold When the game's been fought Newspaper blown across the court You lost much quicker than you ever would have thought Now the game's been fought When the party's through Seems so sad for you Didn't do the things you meant to do Now there's no time to start anew Now the party's through When they’ve sung this song Maybe you won’t feel quite so strong Your hopes won’t last quite so long When they’ve sung this song When they’ve sung this song Won’t be so sure what’s right what’s wrong Not so sure where you belong When they’ve sung this song When the day is done Down to earth then sinks the sun Along with things that were lost and won When the day is done When the day is done You hope so much your race would be all run Then you find you jumped the gun Have to go back where you begun When the day is done
Very good ! But according to Peter Rice he did not really sing "party's" through but when your part is through... Meaning we all play our "part" like in a play. (At least that is what he told me and he was working with Nick in the beginning).
Beauty is a double edged sword. That which makes you beautiful will rely on traits not commonly possessed. It stands you out from the crowd and leaves you alone in your mind. Nick’s beauty lifted him up high. So high that he drowned in the clouds.
Well, as it's told Nick drake handed the masters into record company without then even knowing he was working on a new album. Which means he mixed it himself. The title track pink moon is out of time, meaning Nick drake purposely recorded it one way then sped it up with editing after, making everything a little sharp. Why he did this I am unsure, for someone that was described as being a human metronome. The tracks on pink moon being a little more bassy on pink moon? Perhaps. But depending if you slowed the track or sped it up, it would result in less bass or more. The photos and recordings seem like a cover up, to me. Because after studying Nick drake I have pegged him for what I coin a schizoid autistic split. He experienced the world vastly differently from wvwrton around him
@@l3radick Well, that's an absurd load of nonsense. This song is from his first album not his last, and no he didn't mix any of them himself. Pink Moon is not "out of time" whatever that means, your 'explanation' made no sense. The photos and recordings are not a cover up, whatever that means as you haven't even tried to elaborate on that bizarre claim. After studying your comment I have pegged you for what I coin a schizoid fantasist split. You experience the world in your own unique way, then project your imagined ideas onto tragic artists, then announce your findings as facts in pretentious psychobabble.
My oh my! Why has Nick come to me at 57 years of age. His music has taken hold of me. I feel I have been missing out all these years. I am hearing his music for the very first time and I love it.
I’ve read all of the comments. Those of us who love Nick really are like a club. I discovered him at the age of 50, right about the time I realized I couldn’t do criminal defense work anymore. It’s a dark place to return to, but I still love Nick.
Despite the path his life took, and though he never realized it, he had found his purpose in life and that was to bring people together in peace, love and harmony. God bless you sweet Nick.🌹
Im 50 years old. I was more into haevier stuff like eletric blues, rock , jazz. I found him in the right time, I think. His music just talk to me and sometime lead me to tears. Just deep as emotional, now I cant leave without his 3 master peaces.
I'm in love with this man who lived and died before my time. Beautiful, beautiful, such a tease to have had him in such a short time on this earth. So tragic makes me sad.
lyrics: (sorry for any mistakes, this is just what i hear) when the day is done, down to earth then sinks the sun, along with everything that was lost and won, when the day is done. when the day is done, hope so much you race would be all run, then you find you jumped the gun. have to go back where you begun, when the day is done. when the night is cold, some get by some grow old, just to show life's not made if gold, when the night is cold. when the night is cold, weren't you ever told? it's the time when fear is bought and sold, when the night is cold. when the game's been fought, newspaper blown across the court, you lost much quicker than you ever would've thought, now the game's been fought. when the party's through, seems so sad for you, didn't do the things you meant to, now there's no time to start a new, now the party's through. when they have sung the song, maybe you would feel quite so strong, your hopes won't last quite so long, when they have sung the song. when they have sung this song, won't be so sure, what's right, what's wrong. not so sure where you belong, when they have sung this song. when the day is done, down to earth and sinks the sun, along with things that were lost and won, when the day is done. when the day is done, you hope so much your race will be all run, then you find you jumped the gun, have to go back where you begun, when the day is done.
Thank you, i know the lyrics from the studio version but had a hard time to understand all of the parts that are "new". Im happy that someone wrote the lyrics down in the comment section
I liked the album version but I love that. Astonishing. I haven't had a song give the shivers like that for ages. (Death Letter Blues was the the last one)
2:54 I know that was probably a mistake in the recording but I think it adds something to it, almost as if we're listening to Nick from the other side, but the signal is breaking up.
There's a track called 'Solid Air' by Nicks friend John Martyn who was worried about his depression. It's well worth checking out. The double bass player is Danny Thompson the same player on Five Leaves Left.
Like he's blowing out the lights one by one with each verse he sings. And we're left in darkness. Like he was. Beautiful, haunting, chilling. Lke he was..
His fingerstyle in the folk genre was miles ahead of everyone else in his time .. wat a beautiful gentle voice which is down to his upper class English upbringing .. 🎸🎸🇮🇪🇮🇪
Did he use synthesizers? Did he shave his genitals? Did he sang about artificial intelligence taking over the world? to be a genius is not the definition of being ahead of time.
being a genius is not the definition of being ahead of time. thanks to the likes of you, who don't understand what ahead of time means, it means nothing but singularity in 2024.
I always like to wonder what more beauty all these tragic artists (Jeff Buckley, Kurt Cobain and Elliott Smith to name a few) could have graced the world with if given the time. To harness time and shape it to some sweet arrangement with this kind of quality is quite rare. Love you Nick.
Well, in the documentary A Skin Too Few, (I believe) his sister recalled that Nick, in his far gone mental illness, stated "I don't have anymore songs." It's so heart wrenching, but his reality was what it was. The fact that he did exist and graced this world with such immeasurable beauty through song is more than enough to appreciate. He "did his time" so to speak, and I believe that can be said with all those who have gone too soon. ❤
@@tayloratkinsmusic yeah, that just seems so fucking sad. To be that diminished by suffering for a long time that nothing fits. I've heard it happen to people like David Foster Wallace who also committed suicide when he felt like his writing simply didn't read like how he envisioned it should, but depression is relentless in its power to fuck up any real connection to imagination, growth in oneself and so on.
He had some nice lyrics like all in the world is not Gold. Good insights that Artists give you. I appreciate this kind of Artistry. To be able to see things in the way an Artists does. Bowie use to say that Artists provide information to people and I agree. It’s communication and making you see things you might not consider otherwise. Just like an Author makes you see the world from their perspective or from the character’s point of view in their stories and novels. It’s like putting on someone else’s skin and seeing through their eyes. After your done, you’ve learned something you didn’t know and have grown or expanded your knowledge a bit more. A good song can do this and a good film as well. You can end up transfixed into an alternate reality and you forget yourself and it’s like an out of body experience practically. Total immersion in another world and you navigate it along with the people in the story or journey. This is what is great about Art 🖼 when I relate and identify with it! But I really appreciate the survivors like Sugarman even more! I was really moved by that documentary and how poignant it is because he’s been rediscovered and praised now at the end of his life! I’m so glad that happened just like the Chet Baker documentary Let’s Get Lost! One of the best documentaries about an Artist and musician I’ve ever seen! I highly recommend Searching for Sugarman and Bakers film to everyone. 👏🏻😊
I so wish the whole album could be made available like this, without the overblown string orchestra arrangements that nearly ruin it for me. What were they thinking, covering up Drake's delicate vocals and excellent guitar playing with all that Muzak-y rubish?
They are recorded in the same room, so it's not possible to just get the guitar on its own, although some people have done some pretty good jobs with clever editing.
Hi I think Saturday sun from memory I imagine it was nick playing the piano and singing . Drums and a double bass . Not sure I will have to dig it out and give another listen . I would put it on repeat I loved singing along to it .
I think it's from a tape/cassette of "home recordings" from the Music room at Far Leys that was distributed after Nicks death. I've seen someone claiming one such tape was actually given to a fan by someone in Nicks family, but I can't verify this. There are also some demos/home recordings on the "Family Tree" official release (including "Day is done"), but I think that is a somewhat shorter version. This version is hauntingly beautiful with the chord variations/finger picking improvisations, and can be found on several b*****legs released over the years. In my opinion, the "home recordings" surpass the original versions found on Nicks records, and I especially recommend the breathtaking instrumental "Far Leys" ( sometimes called "Sketch 1") which is perhaps the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard, but was never released on any record. Nick was truly one of a kind ...
Pour ce qui est des photos que l'on voit dans cette vidéo, elles illustrent, à mon avis le meilleur livre sur Nick Drake, "Nick Drake. Remembered For A While". Certaines recadrées et retravaillées bien sûr.
I've never heard this apparently very early version before, which has a couple of alternate verses. You can hear the evolution of the song to its final, better version.
@@Oh_I_Will Hmm I would say I hear something like it in the early classics like _Angie_ and _Strolling Down the Highway_ (which Nick covered as a demo too)
