@WickedTornado You did real good owning some great cars of those days. I was too young and it was all over when I got my license. High insurance, gas crisis. Plus I had to pay for school so I drove $100 cars. Got lucky and bought a 66 Bonneville wagon with a 389 sitting in a neighbor's driveway. Loved the sounds that Carter AFB 4bbl would make when the secondaries kicked in.

OOMACHIW my dad had 70-71 chargers, and 340 RT duster when I was growing up! The chargers was one 318 nothing special but the other was a 440 super commando it moved! But his real nice one was a brand new 1968 Plymouth GTX belvidear it had the 440ci super commando and 4.23 gears it was a quick car! It was actually faster then the hemi in the 1/4 mile but 2 foot past that the hemi’s would blow around the 440! B body’s are my favorite!

I'm a tire tech, and I know you want to be calm and patient while the tires are warming up, because cold tires slide. You really need to go 9 to 10 minutes easy, and then you can push it. And try to remember how fast you can safely take EVERY corner. When you know those numbers and when and where to break and how much, then you are a professional racecar driver. Find the limits slowly, then you will know what it can do as far as grip, it will become a 6th sense. Warms my heart to see him out there having fun.

To everyone commenting on the TA's rust issues, Nick purchased this car for himself so "resale value" isn't a concern. Finally, he gets something for himself. When you have a business, customers come first. My vehicles sit whilst the customers' cars get the attention. Without the satisfied customers, your business falters. Obviously, Nick is doing something right. Lighten up guys, he'll get the rust taken care of in due course.

I loved this car but getting married a year after I bought it put an end to my muscle cars. I had a 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T previous to this cars. I want them both back. Mopar Forever for me.

In 1972, at 22 YO, my friend got a (new?) 440 6 pack Challenger. Even though I had a great great looking, great running 1969 SS Camero, I was overcome with "car envy" but in no $$ position to get one. Even 40 plus years later, when I was looking at a truckload of new ones at a dealer, including RTs. Awesome and symptoms of car envy all over again. Couldn't swing it with two kids in college though.

If you search out track day videos on RU-vid you see lots of drivers doing what Nick did in that corner, and most end up driving right into the barrier so good for Nick to avoid that. The Nurburgring tourist day vids are great to see car after car hitting a wall... Thank you Nick for going out to do this, this was a great video. And thanks to ICAR for letting you have a private track day! How cool is that...

When the outside camera is capturing Nick flying by in the 70, that 340 sounds a lot like the engine sound dubbed into a lot of the old TV shows and movies where Chryslers were used (eg Vanishing Point and Dukes Of Hazzard). That high winding scream just makes the hair on my neck stand up.

I'm on my 2nd "New school" Challenger R/T. It's a lot of fun but I still can't wait to add a '70-'72 T/A to my collection and my dream car, a '71 Hemi Cuda. Don't care about race times or hp, I'll be happy just to drive it down the street lol. In my opinion, you don't have to prove anything with those old school cars- just showing up is enough. 😁

Oh “paddlesticks” Nick I was thinking be careful bro 45 “gears” later I was praying for you not to hit the wall. That was scary watching the weight shift side to side knowing that’s a tough situation losing the rear end getting into the gas exiting that corner. Loved watching you take care of it, cannot express how cool it is seeing you with Vasily too. You are the envy of every man with a son who wants the best relationship he can have. You sir have my respect, truthfully. Reminds me of sitting next to my dad when he blew the exhaust of his 1976 Chevy with thrusher glass packs when tuning a new carb. Love to tell you the whole story, but you are a busy man. Yes it stood the hair up on both of our necks!

Nick Panaritis They sounded beautiful, it was in fact a, I believe 6800lb class “street stock” truck pulling class truck in Maine. That day there was too much gas with that carb set up, we took off the hood, stacked a bunch off wide filter with a long threaded rod on the truck, it was way past the hood, to say the least. Never had that happen before, but the back pressure was immense, maybe the flange loosened, not likely, but maybe. We pullled over he dumped the clutch and then, *BOOM*, I saw the exhaust on the passenger side sparking down the street behind us. My dad looked at me and said, “Uh oh, what did I do?” I said dad you blew the exhaust right off the truck. So we backed up and threw it in the bed. Needless to say, the truck just ran better with the old carb set up no matter what we tried. Those coated free flowing headers and exhaust sounded really nice and worked very well for horsepower and tourque. His many 1st place in class trophies with mama driving proved his skills with engines, etc. I lied and told you the story tonight. Thanks again Nick talked to him this week.

DODGE was cool in the 70's ,so was Pontiac,Buick, amc,Oldsmobile, ford,Chevrolet ,i love them all and none of them really ruled. they each took the lead at one point or another,in 1970 scca racing the challenger and cuda didnt do so well like the z28/boss302 and trans am but i love them all equally.

As an owner of an original E Body many years ago I truly believe it was the sexiest body style ever built. 20 years ago, if someone told me that Dodge was going to start making Challengers again, that looked amazingly close to the originals, I never believe it. Now 10 years into the new run, with them being available in just about every performance level imaginable, is just incredible! Are they bigger and heavier? Yes! I don’t think you could build an affordable version that looked, weighed and was the same dimensions as the original and have it pass all modern regulations? If you could travel to the future 20 years ago, and was able to see a modern Challenger, there would be no mistake of what it was! It’s not a re-badging job, it’s the real deal in every way. Now comparing an original TA against a Hellcat performance-wise, is just not fair, but I know this was just for fun anyways. This is like comparing a P51 to an F22. Performance wise, no contest. Which looks better sitting on the tarmac? It just a matter of taste. I love the originals, but I’m just so glad they’re making them again is all.

Trista Fravel Is it a 1:1 scale replica? Of course not. You could not build, never mind sell one if it was. For example: the original has no “B” pillar. Never pass safety on a new one without. Does the new look like a modern rendition of the old? I think you’re kidding yourself if you say no. Also, the new even comes in a bunch of flavors and motor options just like the original too. I guess I’m just a fan of Challengers and happy that they are making them again.

I had a 1970 T/A Challenger and I pulled the engine and took it to a body shop with a frame jig and had the front frame rails pulled closer together, so the alignment could be set properly for radial tires. Originally when new, there is not really enough adjustment for radial tires and as the frame ages, it spreads even more.

I love the old E body mopars my Dad had an AAR cuda for years growing up and other challengers, cudas, darts etc. My Uncle still has a hemi cuda today. The old muscle car styling and colors were amazing! The sound of the engines and gearboxes. The simplicity in mechanics made them easy to work on. The reason I secured a 21 scatpack challenger last year is because of my love for the original e bodies. The new one gives you that old school feel but in a modern package. I absolutely love the looks of the current ones as well. The tech can be a hinderance to repair but those old carbs can be a pain too. That T/A is awesome with its special ta block and heads, brakes, exhaust, its a true collector piece but the 5.7 liter challenger new version would destroy it in every category of performance, efficiency and engine longevity. The old engines were tired at 70k miles. The steel was way better and held up but I can get in my scatpack, drive across the country with the cruise on and ac on at 140 mph if I wanted with no shutter in the wheel, I can stop on a dime and run a low 12 second 1/4 mile, get in a wreck and be safe all while experiencing incredible comfort. The old cars are fantastic and have their place and they are the reason we even have new cars like the Challenger but the old school prices are insane and if its one or the other Im going for the new one for at least 30 or 40k less…
