@cutehumor it all started out with Woody Paige and Skip Bayless doing cold pizza in the early 2000s on ESPN. Way before First Take. Years! Also Without Skip, Steve a Smith may not had a career on ESPN! He even said this on his podcast! Was the guy polar with his takes of course but that's why people watched even if he's the villain it's like watching a wrestling match with two Heroes you need to heel you need a bad guy. Skips your heel!
I don't understand this argument, "If there was not an inferior version, people wouldn't have/know they liked the good version." idk maybe i just dont think "let's argue about sports" is as novel a concept as some do. I just can't bring myself to believe that, but for skip bayless, no two grown men would have ever publicly debated sports.
I get why people didn’t care for skip but nick is right. Skip pioneered an entire generation of sports talk and brought talking sports and those shows real mainstream. ESPN owes a ton of their success to him personally
100% some people dont want to accept the truth and reality. They dont agree with the person, so everything that person did is invalid in their eyes. We get side tracked with BS that has nothing to actually do with the reality. Scary. You dont have to like the guy, but the guy 100% changed the sports world. For better or for worse. He had an influence on changes. Im not a huge fan of Skip by anymeans, but gotta give credit where its due. Without Skip, ya fans of Stephen A and Shannon Sharpe etc, these guys may NOT have a show. For better or for worse. Im not a Stephen A fan either haha. Im not a fan of the changes overall. But some people love Stephen A and Shannon, without Skip ya may not have either of them in the spotlight. Facts.
All the Skip stuff aside, Nick has really impressed me with how humble he is and how respectful of his peers he is. He pays Skip and Colin their flowers as well as his First Things First team. Loyalty is admirable and Nick has shown that. I love that he loves his team now, i remember how awful Cris Carter was working with him
Nick is one of the Very few people from an actual working class background who breaks thru in today's bougie media 99.99% of whom are from Very privileged upbringings & as a result have almost no life exp but it never stops them from pontificating on ish they know nothing about & even though I was never a fan of Skip's format he also came from a hardscrabble upbringing......
@@michaelbuettner1487after Shannon left there was nothing and nobody who could have saved that show. Skip ruined his reputation w the Damar Hamlin situation and disrespecting Shannon over Tom Brady takes. Nick is great but that show would have failed. Skip just stopped making any sense
@@HEAT4YOAZZ I think things changed when shannon took the day off and knifed skip in the back over Hamlin tweet, he left the show for skip to do by himself it was a cowardly move, after that I could tell skip was going after Shannon harder then last time it got personal, Shannon plays a big role in that also.
@@HEAT4YOAZZ yeah, he basically jumped the shark. He could do the LeBron takes for years because it was funny despite being ridiculous, but disrespecting Shannon and the DH thing.. nothing funny about that. It caused people to stop giving him a pass on the other stuff, basicalling chickens coming home and so on.
@@nifemi_othe Damar Hamlin thing was a bigger deal because of Shannon. Skip had sent like 4 tweets prior to the “bad one” feeling bad for Damar. People saw the bad one and raked him through fire. Shannon lives on social media and slurped up the bullcrap.
Nick's 100 percent right that Skip responded way better than any of us thought he would in the social justice discussions. Definitely better than Steven A
I mean which discussion u wanna bring up? Colin Kapernick? He was in the nfl’s ear and inner circle about setting up tht work out. Went on air & EVEN GUARANTEED tht the man would get a job if he shows up and does his thing at the work out. During the George Floyd thing he was fine. Also some knew Skip would stand along side SAS & Shannon went it comes to these issues bc of where he was raised and how. His childhood obviously came out more during undisputed but the little bit we got on espn, it was telling that he is a man of fairness and respect. Even if his ego prevents him from listening some of the time
Yo Nick, Thanks for being candid about this topic. I am a LeBron guy but I've also watched Skip since about 2012 on FT. Some of his commentary over the years I thought was ridiculous but as someone who cares about policy and social causes Skip was consistently dropping banger commentary and tackling issues bigger than sports especially with Shannon. That always resonated with me and particularly whenever racism and sports crossed over, and particularly during the George Flyod era of unrest. Excellent points as always, and this sentiment should not be lost about Skip.
Say what you want about Skip. Hate him or love him, so many of _your_ favorite sports show can be *DIRECTLY* attributed to this man. And tbh, there’s something so on-brand about Skip not taking a *VERY* well deserved victory lap. Dudes prideful and he’s always been about sports. He left as he arrived.
Skip fired himself the day he let Shannon go. He thought he was gonna have fun post Shannon but he was wrong and delusional. I remember the first show after he came back from hiatus with Sherman, Keyshawn, Michael Irvin & company all happy talking about "finally, the moment I've been waiting for" referring to UNDISPUTED re-launch. Now look at him aged so fast in less than a year post Shannon. This should be a lesson to all of us. RESPECT and APPRECIATE people who bring a lot to the table....don't let your EGO get the best of you.
@@LordBranniganThe I mean yeah ESPN gonna do good ratings but it’s 2024 bro no one cares about first take😂😂😂 you lying to yourself if you say otherwise
First take already had that as a segment and then they started going back and forth because of tim Tebow. Tebowmania was fun but it was better when they would just do the segment and discuss things.
Skip and SAS ruined sports media with ridiculous outlandish narratives and takes that have nothing to do with game. Nick you have great responsibility to give the Audience the respect it deserves unlike they did.
And yet ppl watched Folks were tired of just analysis. SAS & Skip brought personality & chemistry to the table via debates I cannot say tht they ruined sports media since its outlandish narratives & takes have always been in the media just not at forefront. What I can say ruined sports media over both of them. Society becoming more soft and unable to separate hating from being critical or giving criticism. Or focusing solely on things potentially being personal that it overshadows any legitimate criticisms given. Look at SAS & Kyrie situation, while it did became personal (between SAS & Ky’s father), SAS was still speaking a solid amount of facts because Kyrie’s behavior and antics during that time was not it. Instead ppl said he’s an Uncle Tom or blamed the mayor of New York for Kyrie. And on top of tht ppl’s confirmation bias showing even tho Kyrie ACKNOWLEDGED his behavior at the time wasn’t his best.
there's a clear difference between Skip Bayless and jason witlock. yes skip had issues with takes but they were always in the SPORTS area. Skip never became witlock. he never would. respect nick.
Hope on Skips next venture he’ll be able to regain some good will because the dude deserves to be recognized as top 5 of sports media (not including broadcasters)
People will act like they don’t like Skip yet here you are giving Nick one of his highest viewed videos on Skip Bayless. The man is 72, made millions and left a place of work after nearly eight years lol. Get over it
Well said, Nick. I respect everything that Skip Bayless has accomplished over the course of his career and wish him the best on his next venture. I also respect him for being a truly dominant man in a world full of beta males claiming to be dominant, who can be made to publicly apologize and back down from their views and opinions at will. Things that Skip Bayless NEVER did! He's got my support.
One thing I liked about skip was how he had been doing this long enough to remember all the history and bring things up he actually show or witness from the ancient history of sports it felt like a history lesson sometimes but not in a bad way yeah he was definitely wrong for taking a personal shot at Shannon.
I watched Undisputed. I wondered why the industry didn't want to give Skip Bayless a victory lap. Skip birthed a genre. He and SAS took it too far with their personal attacks and their new brand of vitriol. It put a stain on their careers. There will be no farewell tour for Mr. Bayless or Stephen A
Nick is the best member of sports media. You can always feel his sincerity and authenticity. This was classy and regardless of what your opinion on Skip is, everything Nick said is factually correct.
You know what, I like a lot of content on RU-vid but I really liked that you did this, Nick! Thank you for giving an icon his flowers. It is truly due and I have mad respext for you for standing up for him this way!
Nick, I love your take on this. You said so many things I agree with-of course, I agree with most of your takes. Thanks for your response and for demonstrating to others that despite your sports disagreements, you can recognize Skip for what he did.
This gets overlooked a lot but i think the tip of the iceberg that started the decline of Skip started with Jenny Taft...i think his ego and power over that show started running wild at that point but i also think skip won't be missed as much as people think he might despite being the Godfather of sports debate
Wasn’t really a fan of Nick before, but I just did a 180. Hearing him speak candidly about his feelings and what Skip meant to him and the industry took balls and others refuse to do it. I always record the carton show and undisputed, but now it will probably be carton show and nicks show.
I would give Woody Paige more credit than Skip. He actually was the main attraction on 1st and 10 on COLD PIZZA before they changed the name to First Take.
@@timferris3449he's not a fan because he is absolutely wrong. Skip was by far the main draw on cold pizza. And it was proof when woody left. And a lot of people keep saying first take came after cold pizza. That's how I know you guys are wrong. It was cold pizza, FIRST AND TEN, then when Stephen A came on full time it became First Take. When the show was first and ten, Skip went it at with everyone. Rob Parker, two live Stews, Jamal Anderson (falcons rb), jemel hill, Scoop Jackson, Ryan Clark, Nelly, and many more
@EnterpriseNCC-1701 of course, he can, but you should always know a person's perceived conflicts of interest. When someone sells you something on commission, don't you take that into consideration.
This is why Nick Wright has grown on me. Every pundit can be annoying at times. But just how open, humble, and honest he is with himself is so refreshing to see in sports media. And he’s always respectful, no matter how heated the debates get.
Nick Wright from the bald angry 😠 across Cris Carter days and today...... might as well be a different person. He matured into a likeable sports talk personality from a guy i didn't know who he was and why he was so angry😂
I agree. Definitely do not agree with his sports takes for the most part but I cant really hate on someone who gave me countless hours of entertainment.
@@lushi6150 that’s because you don’t recognize hard workers. Your feelings are attached to this. But coming for the people that actually work in the industry including Stephen A, Shannon, Nick and Chris. They say differently.
Skip was a pioneer in the industry, but you can recognize that and think he was awful, especially in the later years. He let his ego ruin what he had with Shannon as well.
The millennial and up generation has zero respect for anyone that came before them ...they were brought up with no discipline in the time out era that would eventually give trophies to every participant.
Skip is the greatest sports analyst of all time his legendary run of so many years is coming to an end because people are such haters nobody respects how long he’s been doing this and how good he is at this. Everybody turned on Skip Bayless. The entire media turned on Skip Bayless, and I will never understand it. Undisputed is my favorite sports show of all time.
Absolutely agree... Love Skip but he contributed 2 his downfall... With unnecessary cheap shots...At certain people... Given his enemies ammunition... 2 come at him.. But he's 2 talented 2 go away Skip will b 🔙 in some capacity... He is the best
Nick...I am a die hard Bills fan and you drive me crazy with your banners and Hommer Chief takes. BUT on the things that actually matter in life, like your takes on Damar Hamlin, the shooting in KC, and Skip.... you are spot on. You are very eloquent when you want to be. 🙌
Clay stopped a stray whn he outfoxed the smartest man on earth (whitlock) and sold Outkick in which whitlock ddnt get the bag. Whitlock has been salty every since and topped it off wth his con/fake biblical, religious spin!!
Man's a legend. Its sad how he and that show went out. After long hours working 3rd shift there was nothing more I looked forward to then throwing on Undisputed while playing some Madden. If it wasn't for Undisputed I probably don't give FTF a shot which has turned into my favorite sports talk show by far
Legend. Good on you for standing up for Skip. When I think about Skip the first things the came up was passion. He truly loved sports and very few were ever better prepared. A debate deamon. Take a bow legend
I think skip didnt do the farewell tour for 1 very simple reason, it wasn't his idea to leave. He didn't want to give fs1 any extra anything. Skip would of absolutely done special shows had he been the one who decided it was time to leave.
Skip never struck me as a villain. A lot of people try to make it seem like he was but I never got that impression. Disagreed with a ton of his takes and generally didn’t care about hearing his opinions. But he was truly great at his job.
Yeah I completely agree with you, it’s alright to disagree with Skip & yet still be entertained by his show! He’s great at keeping us engaged & he’s made my job a lot easier over the years because I just have his stuff on while I work
The day I KNEW Skip was full of 💩 and was farming LeBron takes for views was when he did a whole segment on 1st Take about LeBron's bicycle that he used to bike with kids in Akron because he had King James written on the bike. I was done with EVER giving Skip the benefit of the doubt after that, he is a very well paid troll who made his whole second career off the back of denigrating one of the greatest athletes that ever lived, because of jealousy, for money, or simply because he saw that he could. Good Riddance To Bad Rubbish
Skip made millions off of his Lebron and Tebow takes. He was starting to do the same to Caitlin Clark but got let go before he could go hard against her.
So the person who actually debated skip in person and says he really believes what he say is naive and the rando guy from the couch who never met skip is right? LOL your delusional
It's the truth! I thought Skip Bayless was cool until he went after Shannon! After that, I stopped watching the show! I thought what he said about Shannon was hateful and disrespectful! Skip did it to himself! You reap what you sow!
Nick, this was very gracious. Given how unnice Skip has been to you over the years. And he never invited you back after you showed him out the first time. This was very gracious and kind. Says a lot about you. KUDOS!
Skip is too proud to concede that it was over… his pride is what cost him Shannon as well… btw did they have Nick back on Undisputed after he called skip out 😂😂😂
Pardon The Interruption was on years before First Take formed. They are the pioneers, not Skip. And they are still going strong to this day because they knew how to balance the comedy and yelling with actual substance to their debates.
This is great, Nick. Skip is an absolute legend. LeBron is my favorite athlete too, yet I always found so many of Skip’s takes impactful and entertaining. I’m really thankful for what he did for sports media. All great things come to an end and that’s okay.
Nick I don’t agree with you on everything, but I definitely respect your honesty and nuance you bring to discussions. Skip is a 🐐, thank you for recognizing his impact and the path he paved.
Skip unfortunately didn't have a great take on depression but for the most part his takes for irl matters were good. I think Skip being off TV will be tough on his psyche initially but eventually he will be thankful that he can just enjoy his life.
He didn’t because it’s hard for people that go through extreme hardship and persevere to see how people that going through similar stuff not come out of top. What skip doesn’t see tho is that he dealt with an abusive and by alcoholics destroyed home and childhood by forming a work addiction in the worst sense. It’s the other side of the spectrum when it comes to depression but it’s still a mental health problem. He didn’t even want to have kids because his parents were so bad and he thought he would be the same. There’s a couple of interviews where he talks about that stuff or monologues about it. The man has had underlying mental health issues his whole life, so it’s not surprising to see that he treats depression as people giving up out of their own control.
Nick not only are you the best sports commentator out there right now I think you have been for years.. keep up the great work my friend, love your work.
Skip is like one of these boxers that won’t hang up the gloves even though he’s way past it. He could have had a gracious exit but instead he’s gonna be like Floyd and just keep fighting and fighting until he fades into irrelevance
I'm not American. I got started in watching American football because of Skip. The only ones I had known were Sean Taylor and Brett Favre because I was a subtitler and I worked on a documentary about or highlights of Sean Taylor ( I don't quite remember, all I remember is the dude sent a lot of guys flying in the air, LOL), and Bretty Favre was because, when I was playing Madden, I didn't know any of the teams, so I ended up using the Vikings only because I liked their logo and uniforms. But on First Take, they'd always talk about this dude Tom Brady, so I started watching the NFL to see him and the game and that's when I started becoming an NFL fan. Skip, through First Take and Undisputed, has been a part of my daily life for about 15 years now. It's just sad that his run as a daily morning show host ended this way. I will still check his podcast every now and then, but I just really don't like him monologuing. Hopefully, he finds himself a partner to banter and debate with.
you must not have seen SAS's video about Skip leaving FS1. ESPN has already said that they have no plans on hiring Skip, and SAS said he and Skip is in the past and he is focused on his future.
Only snowflakes hated skip. Anyone with braincells understood hes is a god tier troll. Shoutout to skip for putting on SAS and shannon, hes not a bad person and brought so many funny memories like him or not its facts
Yeah, I agree. It’s okay to disagree with Skip, I do it all the time yet I enjoy listening to him talk sports especially because there is usually a foil to Skip
You’re right about his work ethic, I don’t take anything away from him for that but his shortcomings of trolling/calling people out of their name was wrong. There is no defending childish elementary behavior. Takes are one thing because everyone has an opinion but disrespecting athletes with the name calling can’t be overlooked.
Skip was absolutely right about EVERYTHING he said about lebron .. he said the things ppl was afraid to say & we only gonna hear fake positive one sided news on lebron now
He said Ben Simmons was better than Lebron. He said Lebron was never going to win a 4th title. He said Lebron was finished in his early 30s. That’s just off the top of my head. Skip just gave Lebron haters ammunition, nothing more, nothing less
@@Prince_550You really think Skip wasn’t trolling? He only talked about Lebron because he knows Lebron has more haters and fans than any other player. Name a player that has more haters?
Nick I agreed wit you 💯 percent and I'm the biggest LeBron supporter on Planet Earth. "Nick Righteous" you are the GOAT of this game. It's very rare I disagree with you. Skip started his career on newspaper and was witty. I saw him an got a wave 👋 in San Jose at Costco when he was writing for the Merc. He said cringe things and was stubborn as a mule. Also can irk the 💩 outta all us. But he did Pioneer this debate thing on TV, had connections for real stories and was spot on with some athletes like Aaron Rodgers. He's old and needs to retire. He due owe Bron a huge apology coz he made it Vougue to discredit athletes. And now the majority of Social Media nitpick stars instead of the praise they mostly deserve
