I‘m si happy this recording exists, a great remembrance, great job of the recorder and publisher too, Gedda is immortal, an example for all youg tenors.
I‘ve seen him live, a couple of decades ago, singing the ballo in swedish in Wiesbaden, germany. Even if you don‘t understand the words, music connects, makes you understand the plot. Great singer, with an enormouth breath, carries on wher many others take breath , bravissimo!
what i love most of all is his lack of many things they teach you physically in school. he doesnt keep his shoulders down when he takes a breath, really uses his mouth, some other things as well. shows the real different in the teachng back then and now, and withdoubt doubt back then is currently winning
Thank you Herur 22 for posting this clip. Great acting by a mature Nicolai. It's great to se one who treated others' language with great respect to have sing in his. Great stamina, emotion, imply magnificent delivery. An honor to be the first to comment and rate. Thanks again for the post!
Amazing performance! Strange I didn't hear any bravos, especially from one of the greatest tenors, who happens to be 61, from that country, and singing in their language.
Well I love Nicolai's singing but his best is the French and lighter Italian Opera. This is a little heavy for him but he is splendid vocally as he always was. His command of the languages was well............unbelieveable.
This is the Göran Järvefelt production which was also seen in Cardiff; there it was quite loved, in Stockholm they didn't care for it (all according to Järvefelt.). How fickle is taste; Järvefelt was one of the greats!
Of course we did not care for it because we experienced the legendary Gentele production in the 1950s. That was something completely different and magnificent with a splendid Ragnar Ulfung as Gustav. Birgit Nordin as Oscar, Barbro Ericsson as mamsell Arfvidsson ans Aase Nordmo as Amelia.
