People been sleeping on Nicole’s incredible vocals for way too long. Her performance of ‘And I’m Telling You’ on UK X Factor is what changed the game in the UK.
I won’t lie, you almost had me in the first few seconds. Nicole is phenomenal, super talentled. Classically trained. She’s often overlooked because she does a lot of pop but if you see any of her performances when she does a ballad and you’ll see and hear just how good she is. Check out her cover of Memory or Phantom.

I totally agree with you about the melody changes. Not so much as to be distracting but just enough to make it a different and interesting version. Who doesn't love this song. Seriously

Marc: Broadway was on her bucket list, but she's dealt with so much opposition. Everyone doubts her ability. After positive reception to her performance in Cats on West End from critics (who underestimated her and she surprised), Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted her in the Broadway revival. Unfortunately the American producers weren't on board and ALW wasn't making the final decision; they wouldn't give her confirmation and kept stonewalling because they felt she didn't have the name to headline the show (as usual, Nicole's life story is being underestimated). Nicole's agent got tired of begging and waiting and told her to take her X Factor offer where they actually wanted her. ALW was angry in an interview thinking it was Nicole rejected her offer, but they made up a week later when Nicole explained the situation. She never got the final offer. She also tried auditioning for the Cats movie, but the casting director didn't even let her audition. Apparently the casting director thought Jennifer Hudson was more suited for the role, but (although a great vocalist) her version of Memory wasn't very good. Oh, well. Glad Nicole wasn't part of that train wreck or the flop Baywatch movie, which she was dropped from last minute (she was supposed to play The Rock's girlfriend). She was actually depressed about it, but I think they're blessings in disguise.
People always forget how wonderful Nicole is. Love her voice but I definitely agree on the eyes. I was one that always got yelled at for closing my eyes 🤣
Part of what I love of your videos is exposing us, well really me, to artists who are unknown to me and Nicole is one of them. What a brilliant singer! What a gorgeous head voice! This performance was so well paced with the strategy of not giving too much too soon. Nicole intelligently delivered and I prefer her voice to that of the film version. What do I want to see in future videos? Marc Daniel Patrick!
You should react to Nicole Scherzinger’s Over The Moon. She played Maureen in the Hollywood Bowl production of Rent back in 2010. She was honestly soooo good. She was supposed to reprise her role as Grizabella in the Broadway version of Cats but she bailed due to contract disputes. ALW was so pissed at her because she has been championing Nicole for years to commit to musical theater.
Thank you for doing this song. While her portrayal is great and she signs beautifully, it’s so hard to recreate the emotional buildup and satisfaction that I felt the first time I heard this song performed by Loren Allred. Nicoles Phantom of the Opera performance is A+!
She's AMAZING! So unfairly underrated! I've been listening to her music for years and she's a great singer, a dancer and an incredible performer ❤ This version of the song is just wow! Love it!
I agree with Katie below. When I heard her sing “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” I was amazed. She is so talented. She deserves to be known as a world class singer.
I loved her singing this. I always remember when cheryl Cole sang a song on xfactor and was awful and mimed. The following week nicole did poison live and was phenomenal. Then I heard her sing phantom and can see why she is where she is. Fabulous singer.
Great commentary Marc, but I don't know, I have seen many singers close their eyes during a heart felt performance - like Kelly Clarkson when she sang "Quiet Uptown - Hamilton". It's when they close their eyes when I draw the emotions for them, is it pain, is it happiness. It feels like they have broken that wall of trying to tell us their emotions with their eyes and thennn when they open, it's like I feel they then express it better, and it no longer just feels like a song, but a performance. Try watching some! hehe I may not have made sense though :D
Funny enough, I covered Kelly's video of that song earlier on the channel and I said the same thing. In both of those examples, just look at how powerful it is the moment they open their eyes though, its another level

I love The Pussycat Dolls, but I also think that, because she's classically trained, she kind of wasted her talent on doing pop music. She could have been a MASSIVE Broadway star if she chose that route instead
