Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer not playing, not using the bullets and swords of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them: to die, to sleep, or play?
I got curious about the game, so I played the Demo... Man, the Demo was so boring and tasteless - even the color pallette was lifeless - that I lost interest in the game. Should I consider the Demo doesn't pay the game justice, and insist on it? Or don't?
@@yimkumerjamir3639 I think you didn't get my point 🤔... Anyways, what did you liked the most about the game: the story, the gameplay, or the artstyle? Is it worth to play a second time? If so, would you do it: to understand the plot better, to play the fun parts again, or to see 2B once more?
@@k4rec4 the second playthrough, you start as 9s. then in the third you start as a different character. thats as much as i know about the first 3 endings.
I was originally leaning towards not purchasing Nier: Automata, (never played one of Taro's games), but after seeing some reviews I had to have it. And then I couldn't stop playing it! Easily one of my favorites. The story, score, character design, and themes. Really makes you long for this in other games because you can see everything was made with care.
djrenjiKO fuck that, you have a neighbor don't you? Neighbors can... sometimes disappear. Maybe the neighbor drops off one of their kidneys to your house before you... HE... disappears.
Sami Halwani not only Dodge but also defeat your enemies.. its funny that Bosses are easier than some random robots that suddenly appear to be with more than you though and get you from behind...
I don't know about good graphics because someone else has called it "last gen" while I think it's a varied, and great looking game (this has nothing to do with the treasure collection room, sending out the "scout" ship sidequests, or the included set collection "mini" game. Honest.) Also "cute" girls is subjective but personality wise the girls in this game are multidimensional, have actual motivations and conflicts, and are adorable. (Never tell Velvet she's adorable. She'll probably eat you.) The game is Tales of Bersaria. It's my first in the Tales series and I was pleasantly surprised. If you want a heavy challenge be prepared to up the difficulty, but even that's cool because you get better loot.
shdw787 Not really. If a game has variety and is introducing new mechanics, environments that are used to alter the gameplay, or a change of objectives, I don't think it would be repetitive. Nier isn't repetitive to me because of their intuitive changing of gameplay. I think classifying all games as repetitive would be foolish. Take the indie game Braid for example; it's just solving puzzles with the same gameplay and only movement and a jump key, but the mechanics constantly change to keep things fresh and not repetitive
I really wouldn't say there's any thing that's repetitive in this game other then using the same combo repeatedly or shooting the gun. this game has the most Random and unexpected shit happening constantly. it's constantly throwing new stuff at you. I guess you could call farming repetitive too.
Brett Hietpas I have to disagree with you there. the enemies were only slightly varied and they all had the same robot look. the transitions from different game play types felt more like they were obligated to change something instead of making it more natural, however, they did manage to pull off the natural feeling of changing game play in certain parts.
The one biggest flaw of NieR: Automata is that is doesn't include therapy sessions after you're emotionally traumatized by what actually happens to the characters...
I loved the ending "E", it's a seriously good ending. It's 3 years later and this is still my 2nd fav game. I'm still sad that it's over but luckily 2 new games are coming this year :D
I cant stop playing this game. I am 40 hours in and halfway through route B and I thought it would be tedious playing through again, but as the other character there is so much more to do. The music is amazing and the graphics and storyline cute and intriguing. love it.
For me I was a bit turned off when the b route came in cause it feels like the same route just with a different characters but the I think I will sit through it cause the rest of the game continues from the rest
@@fellowgmers932 I was too if I'm being totally honest, but I came back to it after about a year and finished it up. Never looked back, probably my all-time favorite ending a game has
I've been playing for only 7 hours, but there are already a couple things I disagree regarding this video. First, more attention should be paid to Yoko Taro, director of the game and responsible for its "soul". And second, I find it really hard to believe that you praised the combat and said the story isn't incredible. I'm not saying the combat's bad (Since it's great, up there with Bayonetta and stuff), but the story is SO good. I'll just ignore the part of "better than most anime style..." and jump straight to saying that it's one of the very few times in which I've seen someone write a game, and not a script for a game. By saying that, I mean that Yoko Taro uses every single aspect of the game (menus, mission types, NPC name,s Mechanics, and even game structure itself) to tell his story and reinforce the themes and narrative. Since that's more apparent when you've played previous games, I can't really complain, though. What I can say, to add some more stuff is that it has quite the thematic depth, tackling death, love, existentialism, human nature and philosophy as a form of knowledge. Since I haven't finished, I can't tell if the script is good or not (by that, meaning "the story itself"), but regarding themes and narrative, it's probably one of the best things I've ever played.
I agree completely. While the combat ain't something completely amazing(SPOILER it's still an good 9/10 didn't start the 3rd route so can't say what the 3rd Char can do)but the story in itself ( 9,5/10 ) theme (10/10) and storytelling/narrative(11/10) are so amazing i didn't see something like that since few years. They really put heart and soul into this one. And i definitely recommend it no matter console or PC or waiting till it's cheaper it's not any longer just an game to play like Horizon or the new Mass Effect but a "Piece of Art" from the same aisle as Witcher 3, Gothic or (don't wanna piss of people) MGS a must Play.
I don't think the makers of this game put effort in every ending. take a bad ending for example: if 2B dies the world will be taken over by machines? She is not the only fighter on the earth and she does not matter THAT MUCH.
Aaron it's his opinion if he doesn't think it's great so be it. Same here I also played all the endings and thought the story was one of the better stories a video game has had in a while but not something ground breaking
You said the story isn't groundbreaking, but did you play all of the endings? Ending D (during the second half) is where everything comes together and it's completely mind-blowing. I 100%ed my file and I want to play it all over again just to have the perspective that comes with the knowledge of the second half.
Scribbles You don't have to finish the game 5 times. You play chapters 1-11 twice from different perspectives for endings A and B, then you play 12-17 once for C, and 17 twice again for D and E. There's 26 endings in all but the majority of them are very quick and simple to get.....If you're ment to rush to help someone and you run off and do something else, is an example of an early ending. But A-E are the main ones.
Nier Automata has to be one of the best new gen games I've played since they dropped... this game blows me away and I'm so invested in the characters and the story, I love every second of this game.
I finished it a few days ago and am still reading stuff and watching videos about it. It was an awesome experience, story, music, characters, gameplay, everything was great. It knocked Divinity 2 off my top spot for the year.
I don't know what do you see in this game. I downloaded it, played for about 50 minutes and deleted. It felt hella crappy. I hated this camera from the sky moments when I couldn't see shit. Fighing system is the worst. Mashing dodge button all the time and flying balls everywhere. Like WTF?!
Jason dp You will lose some of the stuff that happens, and some characters that appear might be from the first game. The game is wayy better if you played he first one, but it works either way honestly. Ive heard from someone who didnt play the first one, and she loved it. Just go out and buy like 10 copies, because this game actually deserves it. Drop anything you are playing right now and give this game an honest go, you will enjoy yourself either way.
Jason dp The first game doesnt play very well. Its one heck of a game story and music wise, but everything else is pretty weak. Id say you should check out a story summary or a playthrough on youtube if you really want to catch up. Check out Mr Clemps videos for the summary, theyre great
yea I bought it for PS4 and buying it again for PC. Yoko Taro needs all the money this game can make so they'll let him make more games with AAA budgets
"the story is also satisfiying enough. i don't think it's the most groundbreaking element of the game" ...............you have nnnnoooooo idea what you're missing out on :DDD""
@@zz2q 9S route is mostly same as 2B but shorter, with hacking and a bunch of revelations, but then in the end of it you get into route C which is where the game goes batshit. so yeah, 11/10 play the whole thing. sorry if late ^^
One thing about the storyline. After completing it, I was found myself lying in bed and literally crying. I cant remember other games that forces me to experience such strong emotions. Avoid spoilers at all costs. It is a great game. Glory to Mankind!
I've been playing the last section with tears in my eyes. The story has really human touch to it. A number of moments really resonated with some of the most powerful moments in my personal life.
its okay, this video actually makes it seem not as good as it really is, he defo got the amount of endings wrong for one thing, i wont put the amount here because i dont want to spoil it but once you get a few you'll catch on to how many there are
Just actually finished the intro/tutorial, the first time since January. Amazing experience :) and I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into the rest of the game. If you're looking to get through the first part without getting really frustrated, hold down the right bumper button and fire continuously. Put the difficulty setting to easy and you basically won't use any of your recovery charges until most of the way through the intro. I started playing this when I was less skilled at playing console games so I'd suggest even with the above tips you get comfortable with controllers and shooters first rather than dive into this as a complete newbie.
Good video other than the comment about "its not the most groundbreaking element of the game" in reference to the story. To say that about a Yoko Taro story and storytelling is evidence that the multiple elements to the story completely flew over your head. I'm compelled to assume you played through Ending A only, but in the case you did get through all the main endings (A B C D and True Ending E) and you're able to say that, then you missed all of the deeply LAYERED, multi-directional, philosophical proposals the storytelling conveys in both big and small ways. The story and his ideas within them, as per the usual Yoko Taro's style, are not the usually obvious kinds and they do tend to go over a lot of people's heads, which is why his older games stayed as niche-ish and had a cult following, because the people who did realize those mind blowing and emotional elements are going to be super passionate about supporting it, while those who didn't are going to focus solely on how bad the graphics/gameplay were for them.
this girl knows her stuff. the only times ive heard people downplay a Yoko Taro script is when its someone who never understood even the intermediate levels of the story. theres a reason why this guy's respected greatly in the industry by other amazing writers despite his lack of mainstream popularity.
You said what I was thinking, thank you. Ive seen a few reviews so far that say the story was flat or bad and every time its been from someone who only played the first ending... The game, and more importantly the story, drastically changes through each ending... I just started Ending C/D and the story has literally been completely upturned on its head and inside out...I know it seems like it might be unimportant. But only playing through ending A is roughly equivalent to playing Skyrim until you get to Whiterun and assuming thats the end. It has so much more too it than just the first go.
Adding Platinum games who is the best at making games, and Okabe-san, who is the best at making music, its my favorite game ever made. It made me turn of the game in shock and horror from a sidequest... Im now on my second playtrough, trying to get ALL the endings. Fantastic game, ratings cant do it just....
I’ve got it downloaded and I just wanted too know if it’s worth investing my time in,because I got final fantasy XV and I enjoyed it for a while but it became extremely annoying too play
@@boanblyde701 I played the first mission sprt ofnlast night and loved it straight away love the way it mixes up the gameplay the music is beautiful and the way the story is going I like 🙂 I can see me investing some time in it
After watching this video, I can safely assume that the gameranx crew had only played through the first ending, despite having *square enix themselves* provide a PSA statement that there's more to the game. Because of this, the review comes off as shoddy in some aspects because its probably not wise to make absolute deductions and critiques off of *LITERALLY 1/3 OF THE ENTIRE STORY*
It sounds stretched out when you put it like that, but each of the 3 runs is like a new game. B runs you through the same story with a different character and a whole new gimick that turns combat on it's head + skips lengthy parts and pushes the story further. So if you leave out the fact that there is a credit roll between the sections you are just looking at a really long good game. I never found myself bored. If nothing else, I had too much to do since the sidequests provide so much insight into the world.
Majority of people who play games don’t have the time to replay the same game five times just to 100% a game-file. In that respect this game fails to appeal to the wider market which despite its cult-popularity is the reason it didn’t do all that fantastically financially. They could have incorporated their multiple endings in a way that didn’t fuck-over the majority of their players and thus reviewers and the wider populous would have enjoyed the game just as much as you did. Alas, most of the world don’t have free time like you to sink days into playing the same story again and again just to get another ending to a game they’ve been forced to play four previous times. If you’re not unemployed; a kid; a loner with no real sense of adult responsibilities or relationships or say someone bed-ridden for a week due to sickness, then this is not the game for you. Same with the whole JRPJ genre.
I loved it and highly recommend it, the combat system is just brilliant. They'd put up such a huge effort in making 2B look so fast, nimble and elegant at the same time, there are so many different combowombos depending on the gear set of your choosing that will provide a wide variety of options on how to engage the enemy. Then comes the music... MYGOD the music is just as good as the soundtrack of the first one. They kept the essence and writing, basically what made the franchise so awesome and unique, while also improving it's flaws. I give it 9 Hussies out of 10. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
@@akashpawashe2625 Finish that part aswell then you will understand that all you have played up untill that part was just a big tutorial that is meant to introduce characters and gameplay mechanics
I really hope Yoko Taro, Platinum, and the rest of the crew get another chance to make another game together. It can be another game to this universe or a completely new IP. I don't care, just something. They really deserve it as this game is just fantastic.
I got to 132 hours shortly after launch and stopped playing. Didn't finish the game, hadn't even explored much of Skellige yet, just got burnt out of it I think. Will have to revisit someday.
One of the best games I've played in some time and easily the best this year so far. When you get into the 3rd route, damn this game just becomes truly incredible
"The story wasn't ground breaking..." Fair enough, but it sounds like the typical guy who blasted through the game without reading much into it and was done after ending A... Not the way to enjoy Nier: Automata folks.
@@lisandrogarabentos4718 Thing is that ending A is not the main ending. At that point, the story is still not complete so it's not even an ending cuz u need to keep playing.
@@lisandrogarabentos4718 An ending implies that the story is completed which at the point that "ending" A finishes it is not. A lot of games have multiple endings and it's up for you to decide if you should do the other ones. But if you stop after ending A you're missing a big chunk of the story.
@@kingleonard2380 sure, but i was just saying that maybe a different letter for the ending would have made the difference, since A is the first and main letter anyone could think of
was one of those chuckle missions the stamp collection in the park that has you watch the play 'Romeos and Juliets'? Because that's some Taro humor you dont wanna miss lol.
I don't think Jake actually beat endings A-E. He didn't mention important elements that generally would characterize someone playing through the whole story-line. Perspective switching? Plot twists? Nothing? I know Yoko Taro is a fairly unknown figure but give the guy atleast some credit on what he does best guys.
I've beaten all 5 playthroughs and i'll say i severely disagree with your viewpoint, although i don't know if you have. And ending A generally speaking has always intentionally been the most 'vanilla' of the endings in Drakenier to expand context in other playthroughs.
A was meant to be a very typical ending so it can contrast better in B. I actually prefer it like this to the original Nier's ending A when a lot of the plot was already revealed near the first ending.
+Perseus D. Technically "ending A" was not even an ending, seeing that playthrough C was a literal continuation of the story. It was really just the conclusion of the first part of the game.
This game is one of the most awesome games I have ever played. The soundtracks in this game are absolutely amazing, dynamic and INTO the game, its remarkable.
Absolutely, and that ending was one of the most emotional endings from a video game in a long time. Especially if you say "yes" to all the last questions like I did.
Nier:automata without a doubt is one of the best games or arguably the best game out in this generation of gaming. (I say arguably because it's my favorite game for this generation, hut I doubt that many share that opinion).
The fact that you can take out HUD elements to make more room for upgrades brings me immense joy for some reason. Not to mention the R3+L3 feature is really a life saver for... sticky situations.
One thing about this video is the story aspect of the game. I can for sure say that the story is down right incredible as the endings continue off one another. Once you get to route C the story takes a brand new height that will leave you speechless. Downright incredible story no doubt
10 out of 10 for me, i got the early japanese version (which you can select english as txt and voice) and so far i love the music the super post apocaliptic setting, the damn beautiful score, an intersting story and the bloody fast paced, smooth and satisfying combat. i havent played the previous nier, but hell this is my 2017 game.
"nice self contained tale" the game does so much with the lore the knowledge of it actually helps you getting to understand it easier. altho, it also confuses you more at certain moments. sure, you wont feel lost. but it does help to know what people are talking about when it comes to the past
It is, here's hoping the PC version is the best version. Sony is really killing it right now, Xbox has been shooting blanks. I'm a huge Nier/Drakengard fan, so this is honestly a dream come true. Can't believe they even let Yoko Taro out of the basement for this one, bless his heart.
Turns out it is. I have Horizon and Breath of the Wild and dropped both completely to put over 80 hours into Nier: Automata. If you've been craving something different than the formulaic yearly editions and like an intricate plot, this game is fantastic. It's quirky, dark, and just generally awesome. Also, musical score is spectacular. Unbelievably good. Like Metal Gear or 90s Square RPG good. Best soundtrack I've heard in years. They hired the composer to add some music to the Final Fantasy DLC. How often do you hear of Final Fantasy getting outside help for the score considering that franchise has among the all-time best reputations for music?
One thing I really liked about the game is all the different weapon combinations there are. If you're bored of the combat, just switch up your weapons and try the new combos.
Honestly the only problem with the different endings is that the term "ending" is kind of misleading, because after you replay the game once you straight up unlock a whole second game's worth of content. It's like they made Nier Automata and Nier Automata 2 and just crammed them into the same game. Which I like because to me there's no better feeling than finishing a good, but somewhat short game only to find out it's not even close to being over yet (Okami, Kid Icarus Uprising, and to some extent MGSV did this as well to good effect). Honestly more game devs should just lie about how long the game is, like if you make a 40 hour game, cut it in half and make the player think they've beaten it at the 20 hour mark, the surprise is always super worth it, it just feels good. The only downside is that, while it's a really cool and interesting way to frame your game's story, hiding the second half of the game behind new game plus means a fair amount of people won't realize just how big the game actually is.
Question about the Endings. I am about to get the game (downloading from Steam right now) I am not a fan of replaying the game or replaying a mission just to get different stuff (ending) will i have to do that or will there be new missions for different endings?
The gameplay looks awesome, and the animations are insanely beautiful! but does anybody know if it has Japanese voices as an option? It's not a deal breaker, but I'd definitely prefer original voices over whatever those are
well i got this game one week ago and i allready got 3 endings lol (2 because i just died in the first 10 minutes xD) i love this game the combat is nice and i really adore the two maincharacters i love their interactions and what i love most about this game is: you are not finished when you get an ending and you need to play it again and again to get all the information and the whole story of the game i recomend this game because its just purely awesome
Alfredotv Gravity Rush 2 had a great ending but ppl won't consider it GOTY. I'd say Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata, Zelda, Mass Effect, Persona 5, and others that have yet to come out will be GOTY contenders.
I missed this when it first came out and I haven't forgotten about it since, hopefully I can get the game soon. Looks so interesting! And I still see fanart out there for it too.
Picked this up for $25 shipped from Walmart and I’m loving it. Nothing else out there plays like this game. It feels like the SCI FI souls game I’ve always wanted. I remember playing fast meaty feeling combat years ago with Dark Souls and wished every game played like that. Mix that combat with the stylish DMC animations and you got Nier Automata.
@umisery I already bought a physical copy of the game on PS4, so now I'll just play that while I wait for pirates to chop that Denuvo shit out of the PC version, and then I'll download it for PC from my local neighborhood torrent site for those sweet 2B butt mods.
i bought nier maybe a week ago. first night i played 12 hours solid and have about 60 hours into it. and i still have another 50 hours that i could be playing to get some more side quests and all the endings
I have and i love this game. For being mostly a PC gamer that has a PS4 that barely gets used. The dust that my PS4 has built up is now gone and this game is one of my top 3 games, and i don't see much in the games to come on all platforms out doing this game in the near future. In my opinion this was the spark i need to get back in to console gaming. Nier: Automata 10 out of 10
It pissed me off on pc the frame issue and window resolution problem there is a mod fix but it still didn't fully fix everything shoulda brought this for ps4 too.
Does your character get to learn like certain fighting skills or anything to aid u combat or certain combos u can use or is it preset and u just have to figure them out?
On my second playthrough, and I'm loving it. New side quests and the ability to hack robots makes the game feel almost completely new. Running around as a hacked robot is super fun. Also, I love the super random cutscenes that pop up in the second playthrough. This game will tide me over until Persona 5 comes out.
Hey. Thanks. I enjoyed your review. always appreciate a review with no spoilers. I'm gonna say if you have not played the drakengard games or the previous Neir game, you can't take in the full scope of the story. I played Neir back when it came out for PS3. It is a classic for me and always be a favorite. I thought I fully understood the story until I started to look into the drakengard series. That being said, I've yet to play Automata but can not wait to pick it up next week. Drakengard games are hard to find along with Nier, but if you have the chance, give them a chance. ESPECIALLY Nier
This game deserves all the praise it gets and more. Best video game OST ever composed, along with its predecessor, gorgeous art direction and graphics, a gripping story and stellar gameplay from the guys at platinum. Go out and buy this in droves.
I'm at the beginning of the game how do you save in the game cause I always die by that two saw boss and have to start over other than that I want to continue playing this game its pretty cool
Ur obviously a loser. Okay games come from ur wanted homeland. I know that what I'm saying that choosing a weeb game over a western game is pretty gay. But weeb
I just got the fifth ending, and after having to shoot down the end credits, literally, the post-credits sequence almost made me tear up. I was asked if I'd like to delete my save, and did, but I'll definitely be back for more.
So I was weary about playing this game over because I know about the alternate endings but didn't care enough to play the game all over again. Then I watched this video and didn't realize starting the game over after beating it is a whole different game and you play as 9S the second play through. So I'm on my second play through and in love again. This game is freaking awesome and its not over when you think it is, start over and keep going!
Deep philosophy is what makes this game one of the greatest, you can enjoy it just slashing stuff but if you dive deep into the questions in the game, the philosophical caracters and references you can go miles and get completly lost as it names like Nietzche, Jean Paul Sarthre, Simone De´Beauvoir, Soren Kierkegaard, Blaise Pascal, Shakespeare, Marx and Engels, Immanuel Kant, Zhuangzi; and shows all the main human comcepts of life and consciens (to be sure it grasp all your possible explanations of meanings for life) and destroys it with no mearcy to the point you don´t know what makes a person be a person, you can go as far as you like, but I enjoyed going all the way down to the deepest botton of it, and I strongly recommend you do it! trough all the multiple main endings.
Why are people comparing this to Zelda and Horizon? THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAMES! Thats like comparing Outlast to Mario party, It doesn't work. -_-
I just started the game but for me the top down and side to side section feels really tedious ,maybe it's just me coz i love the part where you directly control 2b like dmc but let's see if i finish the game or those section becomes too tidious.
I just purchased this as it’s on sale in the psn store. ^^ I listened to everyone’s positive comments about it so I caved and bought it! Looking forward to playing it!
