What is the crab effect in psychology? According to Psychology Today, crab mentality is an analogy to the selfish and envious behaviour of someone upon other people's success. Crab mentality is also defined as someone's tendency to pull down people around them who they consider are better than them in any aspect.

I am always curious about the use of the word 'herd' when it is used as a derogatory term. I understand what is meant when referring to humans but in the animal world, it is a far more subtle form of behaviour. It is not just a blind unthinking following. It is a very intricate survival strategy that ensures maximum survival for the energy output of awareness for each member.
@dr.graves5541

OMG! An actual original thought! What are you doing here? You're supposed to just pay homage to how smart Nietzsche is, and not question any of his assumptions. Everything makes so much more sense when you just classify every person as a winner or loser. If Nietzsche's brain had been transfered to a slave's body, he would have remained a slave and would have been owned by someone who considered him or herself to be a high human being. Do you think he would have come to agree?

4:36 I don't think all of these values are as diametrically opposed as Nietzsche would have us believe. A powerful man can be humble, and should be if he is truly strong for he has nothing to prove. Fairness is not something the higher man should be against, if he is a truly higher man, he should be able to win on a level playing field.There should be equality of opportunity, but this does not mean (or assure) equality of outcome. I agree that the values of the higher man are good, but so are most of the values of the so called lower man except weakness, but that would depend on what one means by weakness.
@consciousphilosophy-ericva5564
@consciousphilosophy-ericva5564 4 года назад
MidKnightblue0013 Equality of opportunity is just as unrealistic as equality of outcome. We are all equal in one fundamental way: rights. We don’t wish to be treated as property or things. Aside from that, there is no actual equality in the realistic sense that you seem to be conveying. Nietzsche would not tell a man not to be kind to others; it is more so that if the onus is placed so strongly on slave morality, then man begins to lose himself-his greatness is suppressed.
@MidKnightblue0013
@MidKnightblue0013 4 года назад
@@consciousphilosophy-ericva5564 Yea, when I say Equality of opportunity I am mostly talking about rights. Everyone should have the right to show their talent or competence, to have the opportunity to be in the game. Equality of outcome is not realistic because people have different levels of innate ability. Even if it is not realistic to have total equality of opportunity, Is it not a worthy goal for society to aim for?
@smak387
@smak387 10 месяцев назад
Neitzsche would say weak men need to convince society that powerful men need be humble because this protects weak men. You see weak men are doing what they are supposed to do by celebrating the traits that the powerful men don't have. Same with the motto "true beauty is inside". Ugly people have to expend energy to perpetuate that motion in society in order to compete.

Interesting. Well done. I have not read Nietzche, but have read a lot of Dostoevsky and an immense amount of Ayn Rand and other objectivist philosophers. Nietzche and Rand have some common threads, though their adherents would likely bristle at the comparison. They both have the same flaw, based on what I heard here and in other lectures about Nietzche: They both reject the Christian doctrine of Original Sin. They both believe that man is capable- on his own- of a higher morality, a higher self, who pursues his own interests, noble interests and great goals; and the man who can do this is something of a Superman; and he will not violate the rights of others or do things that would necessarily hurt others in the doing; because the über-competent intrinsically understand that each person has the right to his own life and the therefore to the means to sustain his life; and he would therefore never violate the right of another man to his life or his means of sustaining it; plus, he never has any need to, because he is so competent that there is always a way forward, an honest way to achieve goals. I believed this for many years. If you believe this, then you have no problem with things like income inequality, because there are no barriers to advancement apart from one’s own ability. It has many other implications. However, here is what I found: This Hero-worship of which Nietzche and Rand are guilty is childish nonsense. Man is not capable of what Rand called “Rational Egoism.” It is NOT the natural state of the intelligent, competent man. The natural state of all men in this world is the state the Bible and other religious texts depict. We are fallen creatures in a fallen world. We are capable of reason and charity but we rarely achieve it. The strong- or even just the barely stronger- are almost always more than happy to sacrifice the weak- or even just the momentarily, slightly weaker- to their own perceived interests. This is not a world that can be redeemed by the actions of “higher” men or rational egoists. This is a world that had to be redeemed by Christ. The soul of Man had to be redeemed by Christ. And man can only tame his base, fallen nature through the example and lesson of Christ. (I do not deny that other religions teach a very similar lesson, am merely speaking from my own knowledge base and my own faith). I believed for many years that people, especially intelligent, competent people, were fundamentally good. But now I know they are most certainly NOT.

3:06 if the so called higher man hurts others incidentally, but is too thick headed to be aware of it, and doesn't have the conscience to rectify it, how is he any better than someone who wills harm to others?
@consciousphilosophy-ericva5564
@consciousphilosophy-ericva5564 4 года назад
MidKnightblue0013 The higher man, according to Nietzsche, is to be robust and independent. If he or she hurts others, they don’t do so on purpose; their own creativity and uniqueness is what they are aware of. Why should one have to rectify their greatness?
@MidKnightblue0013
@MidKnightblue0013 4 года назад
@@consciousphilosophy-ericva5564 Thanks for your reply. Nothing wrong with being robust and independent, no need to rectify greatness in and of itself, but this seems to imply a sort of myopic focus on the self. Shouldn't a higher man be obligated to consider the domino effect his actions might have if they negatively effect others? does the higher man owe nothing to the wider world of which he is a part?

@@MidKnightblue0013 I'm no expert, but I'm getting the sense this is exactly the point - no, he doesn't. Achilles does not care for those he hurts as he pursues his greatness as a warrior. What is interesting is that in Nietzsche's day and earlier, Christianity was the norm. Imagine the same kind of personalities as sjw leftists, but raised in Christianity. They would give Christianity a bad reputation. Combine that with pitiful and lukewarm preachers of the gospel, and you are turning off certain individuals prone to independent thinking, of the faith. There is a rise in people who seek truth and hate the left, yet despise Christianity because they are disillusioned with horrible teaching, and weak believers. They think Christianity means to be a passive follower; but we are called to be zealous fighters, establishing the Kingdom of righteousness and peace.

Nietzsche has some good insight to a lot of different topics, but this is egotistical garbage. Everyone here agreeing about how enlightened Nietzsche is, thinks they are included in that illustrious little boys club of higher men. It is just as he dances around the truth, there is the owner class that cannot exist without thinking that everyone below him exists just for his benefit, and those who work to make his life better. Nietzsche's disdain for the struggling class is so palpable, even as he pretends that he wants them all to rise up and control their own lives. He blames them for having aggression toward the very people who placed the chains around their necks, and admiration for those who do so without the slightest bit of compassion. His viewpoints on a growing amount of topics are becoming outdated.
