Well said Steve! Funny, as a kid I always though this was Tiff's fault, but looking at it now it's clear it was all Nige's doing. But sounds like Tiff wasn't blameless for some other incidents around the place. Fun times.
I was at this race and saw this crash live. Mansell was a fantastic driver but there was a lot of resentment from toca drivers and they gave him a tough time as a result.
@@Spyker8921 Mansell was F1 and indy car champion and was given a number of guest drives and he was overtaking a few established drivers so I think that's where it started
McRae was in the same boat , British rally champion and his boss DR put McRae in a Prodrive Beemer and all hell broke loose. If Steve Neal come up to me like he did Dave Richards he’d of had less teeth or a snap on logo across his forehead to shut him up
I met nigel earlier in the year... I asked him if he would ever forgive Tiff and he said Tiff " needed to forgive himself first!" I was there that day and I still remember the bang... I personally think our Nige was a bit unkind on poor old Tiff...
Was maybe 25 metres from this incident on the day, Nigel was caught out by the vagries of front wheel drive. For at least 2 laps prior to this crash he had been flirting with disaster and nearly lost the rear at old hairpin twice. Its clear he hadn't calibrated his reflexes for FWD and didn't have the experience to go full throttle to straighten up, lifting just creates more front grip and more oversteer... honestly he was clearly on the day and still obvious from the footage, well caught out by it.
The usual bigotted comments from Saint Soper. Mansell gave an interview from the US shortly after this and "went on record" to say "l didn't have the accident on my own". He lunged down the inside of Tiff at Redgate that lap, punting him out of the way, then carried too much speed into The Old Hairpin, reached into his bag of talent and found it was empty. Tiff stayed way left, then when Mansell speared left he locked up trying to miss him. Totally Mansell's fault. It's sad when you can't support your countryman in F1, simply because he's a massive bell end. Ditto Hamilton.
Soper was bob on; Mansell struggled with the car and he knew it. Let's not forget that Soper could drive BTCC, DTM, LeMans and tested the Williams BMW F1 car.
