Two tings brilliant about this. 1) Owens has command, he’s impartial and he’s decisive (not instinctive) 2) the players are so utterly respectful to his decision and authority. Even if they don’t agree with it. Rugby is a classes act in this

Goes without saying Nigel Owens is one of the best if not the best ref but wasn't the TMO good too. That is some combination.

There's something about nigel that always makes me enjoy the game much better, one of the best referees the game has.

Nigel is a Welsh and rugby world treasure. He gives and receives respect on and off the pitch. I loved the way he tells off Robshaw "Uh Christopher!" and the man mountain simply apologises like a naughty schoolboy and walks away. Respect to you Mr Robshaw, the tone of viice was enough for me too.

Man, I'm english but I've HUGE respect for Nigel owens best ref in rugby, imagine him on a football pitch XD

I'm from Wales originally, from Glyncorrwg but I live up in the Shetland Isles after my parents moved up here for work when the oil boom kicked off. We used to go down to Wales every year in the Summer for a 3-4 week holiday, as a kid, I played Rugby up here for the junior county team. one year when I was 14 or 15, my dad was talking to one of his old mates, the junior team's coach and said that I played Rugby. The coach told dad to send me along to the game on Saturday so I sponged a pair of boots from someone and went along. We ended up getting humped by a team from Neath in the end but one thing sticks in my mind from that game.... There was this lad, Daffyd, who was about the same age as me but he was over 6 foot tall who'd never really played before other than throwing a ball around in school, I guess someone thought they could make a number 8 out of him. With the game already lost and having had a half-stinker of a match, with about 20 minutes to go I got subbed off so that big Daffyd could have his big moment, his first appearance for his local side. He was the keenest, meanest thing in all of South Wales at that moment in time. Pumped and raring to go. The coach called the ref, told him he was making a substitution, shouted for me to come off. Not too impressed, I started walking off the pitch past the ref. The ref, an older fella looked over to the touchline at this 14 year old human anomaly that was about to enter the field of play and said: 'It's not coming on until I hear it speak first!' By the time I'd got off the pitch I was crying with laughter! haha

First class ref. Shame they've missed the bit where he told both England and France players off, but complimented the rugby that was being played. Awesome ref.

A worthy heir to Clive Norling? I recall Norling saying to Andy Robinson at one game "Any more of that, son and you're off, British Lion or not". Wonderful

Also, this TMO is probably the best at his job too. Clear, concise and also seems to be able to make quick decisions where some of them dither for an eternity. That English bloke, Simon Dowd or something, is awful - vague, slow and laboured. Doesn't communicate well, if at all - sometimes it sounds like he's playing some kind of parlour game where he tries to make the ref guess what he's trying to say. Aussie Ben here is the opposite - combination of him and Owens is just perfect.

I searched for this video especially to hear one of the moments of the Six Nations - "Christopher!" Classic Nigel. Loved it.

That's the brilliant thing about rugby is the discipline and respect needed and involved in the game, in football the players are always shouting at the referee and nothing is ever done, but in rugby superiority must be shown by the referee at all times because rugby is a very aggressive and intimidating sport which requires "tough-guy" referee as well players! Nigel owens is the perfect referee and though he will never get to referee a Welsh game because he is Welsh himself, even if he did, the type of person he is, he would still remain 100% neutral and make the correct decisions as always.

Nigel was and probably always will be the best -period.

Shows that Nigel does have a lot of respect, he'll make calls but he will make sure that they are right. The players know that with him as ref, that he won't be settling for anything second best. Top class.

Possibly the best referee in rugby union. Consistent, fair and clear.

Nigel wasn't a teacher no. But he did work in a Welsh Medium Comprehensive School called Maes yr Yrfa in the Gwendraeth Valley, where legends like Jiffy, Gareth Davies, Carwyn James, Ray Gravell a Barry John are from.

Immaculate, he should be head of the Referee's!! A couple of the 'main card' six nations referee's could learn a thing or two; how to deal with certain situations and, of course, when and how to use the TMO.

Remember the days when we had huge test matches reffed by officials like Owens and no one talked about the Ref or TMO afterwards.

The ref respects the players, and the players respect the ref. it works brilliantly

An excellent ref, a pity he wasn't at his best in the world cup final, but then, no-one's perfect.

No it's Wayne Barnes, that name use to irk me, but how joy, victory and good whiskey help one forgive and forget. Triumphalism aside - Nigel Owens is a far superior referee.

Definitely one of the best. I'm glad to see Walsh retire and Barnes should really be pushed out, but referees like Owens, Clancy, Poite, Kaplan - all set the standard

I do think he is one of the best refs in Rugby and never misses much always know it will be a fair game when he's in charge and yes in Rugby the ref if in charge unlike in football where they argue with the ref in Rugby you can't and they won't in respect

I thought Nigel had a brilliant game. him and the TMO made the correct decisions everytime they were needed. although he did miss a knock on for Billy V's try. but im english so not gunna complain to much about that!

Nigel watches it on the big screen and makes the correct call before the video ref. Man should get double pay, doing two jobs.

Pretty sure he gave a try that wasn`t a try without going to the TMO. There is literally no excuse for a mistake like that in modern rugby.
