Nighttime wandering around the Des Plaines Valley area and in Downers Grove yielded some neat catches and night shots. Train descriptions following:
Train 1:
CSX SD70ACe #4850 (one of only 20 on the roster at the moment) leads a BNSF Dash-9 on an eastbound manifest on the BNSF Chillicothe Sub. Manifest freight (as opposed to intermodal) is relatively uncommon on the "Chilli", so I was rather surprised to see this.
Train 2:
BNSF Dash-9 #5285, with two others and a GEVO, runs westbound with a TOFC train on the Chillicothe Sub at Romeoville, splitting the Santa Fe searchlights.
Train 3:
Going what has got to be over 79mph, Amtrak 'Lincoln Service' train #304 zooms northbound past the 1860s-vintage stone depot on the CN/IC Joliet Sub at Lockport.
Train 4:
Travelling just about as fast as #304, train #307 has a Horizon coach in tow along with the now-standard Amfleet equipment for the Illinois High(er)-Speed Rail corridor.
Train 5:
Later on at Downers Grove on BNSF's Chicago Sub "Racetrack", a Dash-9 and a GEVO (the first loco's A/C unit is in Warbonnet paint!) lead a manifest toward Chicago on Track 3.
Train 6:
Nearly meeting the eastbound manifest, an outbound Metra/BNSF Line train comes to a stop at the Downers Grove - Main St station on Track 1. F40PH #113 leads 7 bilevels. Sorry about all the talking at the beginning of this shot.
~Thanks for watching!~
